Blows my mind that controller has a button for the torch. Computer can't bind that in the settings. Also the entire UI is so different and looks so clean on controller. Also I'm jealous of that scan thing you can do with a controller!! Why can't keyboard do that such a weird decision to hide some controls like that

That torch thing is very weird, should be easy to implement on M&KB considering you have the full keyboard at your use. I wonder what the thought process was with deciding what quick actions were given each input method. Like on controller you cant change between melee and ranged weapon after you have used your actions which would've been helpful against enemies who do disarming attacks. The scan thing is really helpful. Thanks for watching!

@@rioichiFIN because you can easily click 1 button on the UI to achieve all of this, and the game can be played with only a mouse click. no need to bind anything to anything, everything on the ui can do that by clicking once. (swap weapons, equip torch, change character ect)

@@rioichiFIN Yeah this is my gripe with a controller, sometimes you attacked with your bow then noticed you could get near an enemy to make use of an opportunity attack if that enemy walks away from you during its turn, but since this opportunity attack only works with melee weapons and you can't swap weapon, you're SOL (unless you play on PC and use your mouse 2 seconds to change UI and do it). Let's hope the devs fix that for the console release.

Well I'm playing on PS5 with a controller and I'm jealous of the PC interface. As soon as I have a gaming PC I'll replay it on it, the PC interface is way better.

Unless they changed something about that in the latest patch, Inventory management is a nightmare on consoles, especially when you have to scroll through ALL your scrolls or potions to find 1 specific item to use in combat because there's no search bar...

Thank you for showing the gameplay with the controller, there have not been many videos on that particular thing, and with it releasing soon, I was curious to see a little more in depth gameplay. It's very different from Divinity Original Sin 2 controller, but that might end up being a good thing!

I have 200 hours into it (finished my 1st playthrough after 170 hours haha), with a controller too, and you taught me that I could use light source or enter stealth by holding a direction on the DPAD, so thanks a lot for that! And I agree with you, I'm part of those 4 crowds you mentioned (I'd add a 5th : I never even played a tabletop RPG) and I sooo love this game!!

I’ve been drip feeding my casual friend certain things for years starting with MTG and then a few tabletop games, and this year lent him his first RPG Fallout 4 (I know it’s a very light RPG but still) so he’s more aware of some basic systems and less scared to jump into stuff and I’m so excited because this weekend we’re starting our BG3 campaign that we’re going to play weekly, couch co-op with some good weed. It’s gonna be fucking awesome, BG3 came at the right time! I’ve played Tides of Numenera many years ago but other than that I’m not really familiar with these really deep CRPGs so it’s going to be interesting for me too, I should be okay though as I understand the bare basics of DnD such as skill checks. I’m so excited! Your review has been very helpful with the controls being explained and I feel more ready to get stuck in, cheers!

Just FYI, I emailed Larian about future m&k support on the PS5 and they basically said nope. No plans for it at this time.

I'm personally still feeling like I'm actively fighting against the controller on PS5 after 8+ hours and I just don't understand this. KBM work perfectly fine on PlayStation, so why not let us use them? Can't srsly be that much work to just port the existing UI and stuff as well. SqEx did it years ago even back on PS4 with FFXIV, but for some reason, no other developer seems to have taken advantage of this since.

Great Review Mate…And from a controller perspective…already got 120 hours of the game played but all mouse and keyboard fancied kicking back in front of the TV to do a controller play through instead of sitting at a desk

I was in the exact same boat as you not a turn base game guy, never played dnd, ps5 player. This game is amazing best rpg I’ve ever played bg3 10/10! Great review of the game

I play with a controller on pc for everything such as exploring and dialogue. But switch back to keyboard and mouse for combat

Hey man nice review! The main thing I switch to KB for is when organizing my inventory cuz trying to move items into nested bags/chests is a pain w/ controller, and you see a lot less of everyone's inventory in gamepad mode vs KB/M. Outside of that and selecting specific/small items on the screen, I find using the controller is better for me, especially for traversal.

It was interesting to hear from someone not accustomed to D and D dice roll system, glad you enjoyed it. You didn’t cover the combining or crafting aspect, was that because you didn’t use it? I ask because I really want to try this and I have no idea how to access this .

Tip for controller players some of the puzzle you need to press down on L3 to toggle to turn base mode! Helped me in act 2

Controller is annoying for inventory management/selling and precise targeting for aoe/jumping to exact spots. But it is pretty much playable and also gives you an opportunity to play like a regular rpg outside of combat, while on PC you need to install mods to be able to walk around with WASD iirc. I've beaten the game on steamdeck, certainly had issues, especially performance in act 3.

I played exclusively with a controller and never had these problems honestly. For AOE/Jumping to exact spots, since you have a cursor there is no difference with M&K so I don't understand how you could struggle.

I like it. And since I'm used to it, it's the other way around for me : I find unpleasant the gazillion of very small icons at the bottom of the screen on the K&M UI, haha

I don't like the wheels in the combat. I just wish they kept the bar below like on pc. In divinity original sin you can just hit y and you get to use the bar below.

my only issue with the radials is that sometimes the icons would move around. With Lae'Zel, her bonus attack as a fighter kept moving after I switcxhed weapon with her : one time it was in the 1st radial, another in the second, and later on it was in the 3rd...
