Yeah, I always make sure to ask my boyfriend if it's ok to touch/hug him when he looks spaced out etc. I know it's always OK otherwise, and if not, no big deal, he'll just tell me, but in those scenarios when his body language changes I always ask just in case. I haven't seen him in about three months now because he's had a cptsd fallback at the same time as I've gotten deeply depressed. We're on a break to focus on ourselves rn, but still concider ourselves boyfriends and catch up once a week. We're just limiting our communication so that we can truly focus on our own lives. I miss him terribly, but I'm hoping I get the chance to see him next week, for at least a little bit. I'm doing a lot better now and am most likely getting into film school later this year, so I feel ready to see him again at least. I obviously hope for the best, but if he doesn't feel ready, I'll be here for when he does. I love that silly clown to bits, and taking a break was the best thing we could do rn. I'm actually able to stay a lot more patient like this. Probably because it makes me not think about it as much, and I don't fall into overthinking spirals, which has helped me find the inner strength within myself that I needed, rather than feeling so codependent.

So I know they've edited this out now so it can no longer be assumed as canon, but there's a moment that still fits Astarion adorably. He has this really cute almost childlike way of trying to glean details about other people's sex lives which is really common in people with sexual trauma, and I think they show it really nicely here when he's all "oh? You enjoyed it?" about the saucy dreams. You know he had creepy dreams about Cazador and he's like "yeah nah fam I'm good imma just bullshit that away and ask my friends about their smut instead" like a bandaid for their own shit.

As a writer of non-Shippy fanfic who recently entered the Astarion fandom, I appreciate the line "there will be no smushing of booties involved" XD One of my best friends has convinced me to write an epic romantic tale with her, which quite flies outside my normal fare, but I'm also working on a piece where the MC forces Astarion to undergo a trial to prove he's no threat to the group, and I've already posted a short piece about Astarion's loneliness under Cazador's thumb. And yes, he does seem like quite the character to know. Like my favorite versions of Loki, he's layers of vulnerability and trauma under layers of defensive posturing and snarky sarcastic wit. And with a tragic slavery/mind-control background to boot!

Meh. I don’t think so. Cuz Astarion more like neutral or chaotic evil! Fenris never was evil, he just want revenge its not same. Astarion laughs at dwarves, supports really violent choices, and have much more fun at a party when you kill tieflings. And it's not about being a vampire slave, it's about his personality. Some people try to make it into a cinnamon roll, but he’s not. He's evil, this is why I love him. Games don't often have evil characters who will support your violent choices.

Dreams like these are meant to make the character accept the "gift". For most people the best way to do so is with a person they desire most but in Astarion's case it's easier to threaten him with someone he fears and hates most. Like, offer him a gift that can kill Cazador or show him a dream where Cazador offers him freedom and power willingly
