It gets worse actually, I think those are Aylin’s wings, as in, the ones ripped out from her back when you first meet her. How do I know? There is this note with Balthazar about appreciating the extraction because “the donor wasn’t very cooperative” it’s fucking aaaaaaawful dude

I've never encountered Marcus before the kidnapping attempt. Despite how many times I've gone through the second act. I guess because I always had the teiflings vouch for me when I got to last light inn. Can you encounter him anywhere else?

You meet him when you first meet Isobel . Otherwise you need to kill all tieflings and he will show up this way. Haven’t seen him otherwise in any other scenario

@xpertgamer0 kinda wish they had him somewhere else in the game because isobel and jaheira are all like, "omg he betrayed us," and I'm just like "uhh?? Who was that??". Like if the teiflings vouch for you instead of Marcus, he can be found standing somewhere at the inn and will act differently towards you depending on if you had the kethric conversation with Jaheira or not. If you haven't, he will talk to you openly about being a fellow true soul and tell you to help him kidnap isobel. To which you can either decline and start the battle against him, accept and start the battle against the harpers, or accept but ask for time to prepare, to which you can prepare for the battle and/or rat him out to Jaheira. If you had the conversation with Jaheira and agreed to help, Marcus will hide the fact that he's a true soul and you have to pass an insight check to figure out that he's infected. If you pass, you can then ask him about his tadpole infection or say nothing and tell Jaheira that he's infected. If you confront him about being infected, it will lead to him admitting his intentions and triggering the battle.

I actually forgot to even speak with Isobel, because the guards at the bridge simply told me about the raid to ambush the drider. I had the Light Cantrip or Blood of Lathander on everyone, so the lesser Shadow Curse never affected me at all. Then I released Dolly and we're now completely immune to the Shadow Curse. There doesn't really seem to be any actual need to meet Isobel to seek her blessing, and Marcus doesn't seem to have spawned into my game at all.

I also got the lantern from goblins. I wanted to capture Isobel and see how the story goes. So I was betraying people left and right

The virgin goddess of the moon blessing that only protects you from shadows torches can protect you from vs. the gigachad Dolly the pixie who gives you full immunity to all shadows.

I think it’s to do with Selune being not able to oppose magic that is in a way very similar to hers, but Dolly (and other Fae) come from a realm where the type of magic they have can easily oppose dark magic. Or at least that’s what I got from another explanation I saw online 🤔

​​@@elenalizabethit's also related to the nature and form of worship that evil goddesses engender vs good. They tend to attract those who will commit atrocities on their name. Mass sacrifice, needless war, suffering etc for their own sake, and the power a God can create a curse in or can themselves attain is directly tied to the worship of their followers. In order to counteract a curse generated by the horrors Ketheric Thorm engaged in would require an equal but opposing level of good, counteracting worship, and that just wasn't happening. Shar was responsible for the curse, so bit makes sense that she could counter it at will. Like the dead 3 vs jergal, vs their brute force approach of conquest, jergal had to resort to wits and inspiring acts of good on behalf of good to whittle away at the absolute until a mix of critical mass and evil always eating itself finally won out. Same with the curse. The forces of good didn't have a literal daughter of a deity chained up like evil did to help counter the curse 😊

I heard from someone that if you use invisibility and knock out Mol before meeting Jaheira, Marcus will show up to help you instead of Mol. Although I haven't confirmed this yet.

I've tried this, but it failed. But I used the spell Sleep. The invisibility immediately faded off and Mol awoke before I even got to this part

@@eliselullabee9877 Well, I tried this in my latest playthrough a few days ago and it worked. I used Greater Invisibility and knocked Mol out with a melee weapon and with non-lethal passive on. Luckily I passed the invisibility check and was able to retreat and trigger the cutscene with my companions.

@gilbrt3549 Just managed to do so too- I failed the invisibility check, knocked her out but it only got the character in prison and so the rest of the team could trigger this version of the event. Of course its a separate save (because i didnt want to actually hurt Mol and don't know how to wake someone up after the KO) but I'm happy, thank you for this ^_^

Every time ive done this, the tiefling kids step in. Do you have to do Act 1 without saving any of them to have Marcus step in on your behalf?

Yeah. If you saved Harpers in clash close to arriving or saved Grove, the Harpers or Tieflings will put in a good word.

I killed them all for the disrespect they showed me at the entrance, Marcus too. I think my Lolth cleric wouldn't stand for that. Probably screwed myself but it was fun .

same here, its a shame that you have literally only 1 option if you resist and that is killing eveyone in the inn, cant say I dont like it but why they couldnt put some NPC running in and saying you helped them BEFORE you had to choose either kill or submit

Same on my first playthrough. Harper: "Why would a true soul fight against their own?" Me: "I'm infected but seeking a cure." Harper: "Go here it's safe." I arrive at last light and before saying a word Jaheira casts a hostile spell to restrain me . Me: "A hello would be preferable." Harper points a crossbow at me. Me: "Back off." Jaheira: "Were going to kill you now don't fight it." I tear out of the vines. Jaheira with flaming hands: "Stand down." Me: "You know what, you invited me here under false pretences after blowing my cover then cast spells on me and told me you were going to kill me. You know what no I'm not standing down." After killing them all and looting a tadpole from Marcus "Wait . . . were they really false harpers? No just him, so real Harper jerks then."

Lol wait what? He shows up eariler? Only got the prompt to expose him after I had already reduced him to ashes when he endangered the kids and my sweet little horned bard Dudes just straight up dust in the carpet on the 2nd floor, but Jaheira still wants to capture him somehow Istg druids in this game are bugging out... Even got Halsin insisting on me partying with Tieflings, half of which are dead now, apparently...

I think they are referring to the boat part, but you just go to Moonrise first. Nothing forces you to go either direction@@xpertgamer0

You would need to let the tiefling die and not help the harper next to the village (if you do one or the other Mol or the harpers will vouch for you instead of Marcus)

Kill every tiefling in act 1. That will trigger this

@@xpertgamer0 What if you just kill Karga, then the Druids go and kill the Tieflings. Then you go join forces with Minthara and she goes and finishes off the Druids. I went straight to the Moonrise Towers following the Drider and killed the ambushing harpers, so if I go back and visit the Moonlight Inn now. Will that scenario occur? I'll have Minthara with me as a party member.

I believe if all tieflings are dead, then there is no one to vouch for you. Then Marcus comes forward. So ideally that should work.

In my first playthrough I found somewhere in cursed lands evidence that he was a traitor, but that was after the fight. This time I was going to find them before the fight and try to warn Jaheira, but unfortunately forgot where they were 😫 Anybody knows, perhaps?

UPD So I found a letter about him in Moonrise towers (library, 2nd floor), but there's no option to tell Jaheira about it 😩 she just keeps sending me to Isabel. Maybe if I learnt about him before speaking to her there was the option... He also wasn't standing on the roof. What a shame ☹️

Also Mol is being kidnapped anyway although I've k.lled demons from the roof, cast Otiluke's sphere on her and turn turn-based mode on to keep the sphere on her 🙁

what we have here is an instance of 'bad' writing... why didnt the parasite flip out in the presence of Marcus? he was already there! its already known by Jahiera, from other dialogue, that allies could be turned; and if she did already "trust" Marcus then his presence should have obfuscated her test...

It's not that bad. It has to be really close for the parasite to flip out and Marcus was the most trusted person. So, he got a pass. But I get your point, could have been better.

marcus had some kinda memory manipulation placed on her... thats why when you ask why she didn't test him she says shes known marcus since... and then pauses and thinks... because she doesn't know how long shes known him and then thats when she checks.
