I expected a more optimized Series X port, given the additional time they had to develop Xbox versions. I seriously don't know why this game runs so badly on all platforms, as the graphics are nothing to write home about and it doesn't push any technical boundaries.

The PS5 performance mode now runs in 1080p at 60fps, and when I turned on the option to force VRR on unsupported games it seemed to run a lot more stable, I was finally able to sink my teeth into the game without much issues, I ended up putting over 360 hours into a single character, I knew 100% completion would take awhile but Jesus I wasn't prepared for that lol, unfortunately the quality mode on the PS5 version still only runs at 30fps and was unplayable to me, I would get motion sick after playing for just 45 minutes, my eyes just aren't used to low framerates anymore

Yeah, slightly less performance and worse anistropic filtering are things I can overlook and ignore but there is no way in hell I am going to put time into a game only to have my save disappear. That is a deal breaker. Was going to get this game right now but until that is fixed it's a no from me.

I though those texture pop ins were a issue only in the Series S, when in a conversation the texture quickly pops up when the camera cuts. It loads fast so it's not that annoying but it's happens a lot.

Let's be honest, bg3 runs very poorly and will probably never run actually good. There are two reasons it's still this well regarded: it's an incredible game otherwise and it is a somewhat slow game. Doesn't change the fact that no console can hold a somewhat solid 30fps in quality modes, and performance modes frame rate gets cut in half somewhat regularly. PC runs pretty bad as well. Series s is even missing an entire game mode.

@@ExG131 playable is such a useless word, since, as long as it does run at all it is technically playable. Can be 1spf, 1fps or 1000fps, entirely subjective. Though, the save game deletion and frequent crashes for quite a few people on various platforms are strong arguments against it tbh. I'd say the reason you feel the series s port is impressive is because how bad it is everywhere else. My perspective is it just runs poorly everywhere and does not impress me in technological aspects at all. To be clear, I absolutely do respect the game and Larian. Just not for that.

Just put 75 hours into Jedi Survivor on ps5, performance mode is practically flawless, AMAZING game, I really hope it sells well because I really want a 3rd game, I’m glad I waited for it to get fixed because god dam, what a game. Oh and I beat it on grand master difficulty, every boss fight, side quest, everything, it was not easy, but super fun!

Bought for Series X night it dropped and having a blast. Worst issue has been occasionally crash to home screen, been better since last update, no lost save files thankfully and split-screen has been fun too. Know it'll get better after more updates and hasn't hurt my enjoyment of the game.

My biggest issue was from act 2, textures on characters and npc characters didn’t load correctly so they looked horrendous unless I deleted all save files and reloaded the game. I wonder if that has been fixed?

The performance in Act 3 is still garbage. The Spiderman games, for example, show that the hardware can realize huge, bustling cities without any problems, even with additional ray tracing. Even the Witcher 3 had humming cities and that on last generation hardware with much weaker CPUs. This is solely a software problem and I think it should be criticized and not be labeled as a legitimate result of weak hardware.

The PS5 version was unplayable at launch, quality mode was and is still only 30fps and performance mode was way too blurry, but now the performance mode is fantastic, now runs at 1080p and is no longer blurry on my TV, I've now put over 360 hours on a single character, which is crazy considering this game only takes about 50 hours to beat, but there is over 300 hours of optional content in this game that i couldn't resist and i had to get 100% completion on my first playthrough, it ran mostly terrific in 1080p at 60fps, im now starting my second character

The game engine its self needs an overhaul. A bunch of average quality npcs walking around act 3 on some standard modern graphics engine shouldn't be causing a Zen2 cpu to crawl. Playing DivOS2 with a friend recently and I still get dips below 60 in the blackpits. It's not graphically impressive at all. And I'm playing on a 5600X and 3080. Larian need serious work put into their engine, they keep making small improvements but it seems like chunks of it just need completely changing.

@@roberttko24 Yeah, in the 2019 reveal. When the best card in the world was a 2080 Ti, and they said this has similar perf to a 2080 super. It then came out a year later, just after the RTX3000 series, but was still very good for the price. But 3 years have passed. My 3080 was considered ultra high end back then. By today's standards it's more upper mid range. And for the perf you get it's still cheaper than a similarly equipped PC. Just locked in that console environment.

I think is less parity with Series S and more the Microsoft graphical API being more higher level abstraction and away from the metal that the PS5 (and PS4 for the matter) API. This seems to be a things since less gen, Microsoft effort to push cross platform development as effortless as possible, you develop one code base and just export for Windows Xbox One and Xbox Series and it should work flawless given different graphical settings. The problem is the code generated by those type of cross-platform framework tend to lose a little bit of performance compared to code written and optimized to just one platform. With the PS5 selling almost double what Xbox Series sold, developers also optimize more to it and don't use Xbox specific hardware functions that are not available on PS5.

Hey DF, thanks for the comparison! Having both versions, there are a few more differences between PS5 and Xbox Series X I noticed: On the XSX version, some particle effects are missing. The earliest example would be the smoke in the very first area of the prologue. There are miscellaneous cases of worse quality, maybe FSR-related? Have a look at the beards in character creation and zoom in and out. They are lower resolution and get blocky when not zoomed in. There is some serious audio lag in many instances. Music often starts with an extreme delay and sound effects often aren't synchronized to what you see. Again in the prologue, bash that skull during the dialogue with Us. Loading times are minimally shorter. Might be random though, I'm not far yet. For me, it looks like Larian focused their development on the optimization for the Series S and scaled the result up for the X version. Hopefully, they patch the Xbox version so at least XSX and PS5 get more even. Anyway, nothing gamebreaking so far (except the savegame issue Larian's already working on, of course) and it's great that more people can enjoy BG3.

Really enjoying the game on PS5, when it'll let us play... Probably the jankiest game I've played since AC Unity. Since patch 5, it must have crashed 20+ times on us. Then there's all the other soft locks and issues forcing restarts. There's a consistent, 100% crash when someone tries to join splitscreen multiplayer in back end. Compelling game, but it's always fighting you.

There’s 1000s of bugs they have fixed since launch. Unfortunately sometimes a patch introduces new ones. It’s been incredibly buggy for me(single player) and the game being incomplete on launch was disappointing. I got to the end, bugs and all, incomplete quests etc and then discovered Karlach only had 3 failed state endings and there were none of the promised eplogues (finally we have them) It’s a fantastic game but I wish I had waited until they actually completed the game properly. Then again, that didn’t matter to most or they didn’t have the same experience as me because it won GOTY. Still, I’ll be more hesitant buying in future when game has this much depth even if it’s been in long development.

A good early example is when you are in the fort and there's that big green ritual site by the elevator. The framerate tanks and there's tearing. Another example is the down with the windmill. A bunch of places there still tear very badly. Almost every Twitter post Larian makes there's someone mentioning it so it's pretty common.

Surprised to see the Series S performance in the busy city, could swear it would drop to 20fps, but nope, can sustain 25~30fps. Still a joke of a console, it's dragging the whole platform down. The BG3 engine is deceptively impressive, not the most realistic graphics or anything, but it demands a lot of processing power... and BG3 is a early generation game, now imagine a mid generation game like GTA6 running on the Series S, lol or maybe Larian can come back late in the generation with BG4 or Neverwinter... honestly, I will not be surprised if the Series S got eliminated from the equation completely. Once again the X-S comes through. For $300 your playing the newest AAA 2023 Game Of The Year. There is no downside to that . You do like to spend a lot of time talking about "Quality mode" when most Consol players chose "Performance mode" on all games . Extra FPS will always come ahead of extra graphic quality on a console . Nobody bought a $500 console and expected $1500 and up PC graphic.

Controller is fantastic. Never been a keyboard and mouse player. I just purchased a higher end Gaming PC, which and is my first step into PC Gaming, after 30 years of being on console, and it's a night and difference. PC blows away the PS5 and the Xbox Series X combined, and it's running at framerate's I've never seen before in my life. It is visually stunning playing BG3 on PC vs Consoles. Every game is hitting between 80 to 120 fps, depending on the game, and it wild to see. I knew PC Gaming was better, but I never thought it would be this big of a jump in terms of graphical fidelity and framerates. I'm still using a controller though, and will never switch to keyboard and mouse. To me, after 30 years of gaming I feel at home using a controller. Controller is much more comfortable, and the vibration feedback is something that is very important to me, since it adds to immersion. Unless there are haptic feedback keyboards and mice. Wait... Are their haptic feedback keyboards and mice yet? Don't even know if vibration in keyboards and in the mouse is a real thing or not. Imagine if every single key on a keyboard not only had haptics, but also had pressure feedback. Kinda like what we see in on the triggers for the PS5 DualSense Controllers. It would be badass! Someone invent one now so I can buy it. lol. Cheers!🍻

You don't need to play previous games. There are a couple of returning characters but it is not a big of a deal. You can watch a 20 minutes summary video on YT, for example.

It can be played stand alone, without knowing anything about the previous games. I do recommend reading up on some D&D lore. Especially about the different deities, races and their backgrounds.

It says on the game options menu it targets 60 fps and it definitely felt like 60 fps for the first 2 acts. Act 3 is really hard on the console tho and I’ve gotten a lot of dips, especially if a lot of explosions and fire are on screen.

I got a refund. It kept losing my saves, I was missing hours every other night and then eventually the save wasn’t there at all after that first patch. I really want to play it but I’m just going to wait until it’s patched.

Recent patch seemed to try to fix some audio issues, but I think it broke the game even more. So many crashes on the Series X.

I played it in steam deck and OMG it players radically different by default compared to PC, you control the characters with a thumbstick and moves like a typical third person action game...so much flexibility.

The biggest problem right now is not dipping frame rate or minor graphic and audio glitches, it's save files getting completely erased for a lot of people. This problem persists since the launch, and we have yet to hear what the cause and solution to this is.

Aside from the frame-rate and tearing that DF mentioned, there were frequent crashes, slow texture loading during close-ups, painfully slow load times, constant hitches, audio drops, and many other significant problems besides the thousands of smaller problems that tend to accompany big ambitions systemic RPGs. DF really dropped the ball on BG3 for PS5. That's fine: shit happens, but unfortunately DF is now at the point where what they say becomes the gospel. The game was not in a state where it was ready for release on PS5 back in September. Many of these problems have yet to be addressed and likely never will if folks like DF fail to call them out.

20 hours means you are likely still in ACT1 which had years of early acess to polish bugs. ACT2 is fine too. It's ACT 3 which has all the issues

The info as to how current performance mode runs on PS5 wasn't clear in the video. You go from launch performance mode in the 3rd act to how quality mode runs, skipping current quality in the 3rd act. I thought you would show a clear comparison in the third act between launch performance and current performance.

To me it ran in 1080p at 60fps when I turned on the option to force VRR for unsupported games,my TV has an option on my remote that tells me the current resolution and refresh rate that changes for both dynamic resolutions and framerates, the lowest i saw the framerate was at 48fps during combat but only a few times when there were a lot of effects on screen, i would say it was still an average of 57fps because outside of combat it was always at 60fps, dropping a frame or two when moving around in crowded areas or areas with a lot of textures on screen, I ended up putting over 360 hours into the game and it seemed to run mostly good, it's no longer blurry like it was at launch, the framerate was mostly stable from beginning to end and I did everything I could, I tried to get as close to 100% completion as possible, I play so many games that I don't usually replay them unless a new version is released, I've played most of the CRPGs released on Playstation, I've even played most of the indie CRPGs

It still blows my mind that for a 60 fps game (performance), people are completely cool with the last 40%+ of the game just cutting its frame rate in half... Other games would get absolutely DESTROYED for that. I'm also confused why you only show simple walking through the city, when that ignores all the other events & battles that actually happen and make the frame rate even worse. Act 3 isn't just 1/3 of the game either. It's massive, and you'll spend almost as much time in the city as you did the first two Acts combined if you try to do everything. "But it's just in the city" isn't an excuse either. You're in the city, under the city, or right outside it for almost the entire act. Rivington isn't as bad, but it's still quite a big fps drop, especially as you get closer to Wyrm's Crossing.

A big distinction is that BG3 is a turn-based game. FPS still matters, but it’s not even close to as important as in an action game.

I feel the same way. I think it's an important conversation to have because it's not that larian hasn't accomplished a great feat, but we have them strutting around like the kings of video game development. When, in reality, making a big huge game with all sorts of bugs and optimization issues isn't *that* unheard of. Openly talking about these issues would be a lot more productive than pretending that this game is perfect.
