I don't know why I'm seeing this everywhere; it hasn't been teased or even considered .By the way, I'm not sure if it was Cromwelp or Swen Vincke who said this, but they had considered making a different DLC precisely because it was impossible. The huge problem with BG3 and its potential sequel is that it wouldn't have been the continuation of our character anyway. Because it's impossible, far too many branching paths. An expansion on Avernus would mean that if you happen to choose Minthara in your first playthrough, do you not get the DLC? Or is the DLC completely inconsistent with your story? Impossible, or unacceptable. Personally, I would have liked a DLC with my Dark Urge and Minthara going to Menzoberranzan to take over the city. But then it would mean that if you didn't save the drow, you wouldn't get the DLC.

Just have some reason to go take on Zariel or get stuck in the hells in general and then use that as a big deal for either Karlach and Wyll if you have them in those positions like many do, but not pointless if you don't. Like taking on Vlakith, sure helping Laezel is the obvious reason for most players, but you don't need it for the rest. Taking on a Lich Queen with a grudge against you has dozens of potential easy reasons why we would be up against them. I think it's very confusing how any additional content for a game is all thrown together as "DLC" nowadays. I don't think at least older players expected anything like those $5 storybits, which most of us associate with DLC - the horse armors, item packs, 1 hour mission bits etc. What I hoped for and I think many did was a good old expansion pack, those things almost as big the main campaign back then.Tthink Neverwinter Nights - Shadows of Unrentide, Oblivion-Shivering isles, Dragon Age - Awakening or recently CP2077-Phantom Liberty, I think that would've suited BG3 well, even with a totally new story and different characters. The other stuff that's usually a $5-10 DLC though, nah, not Larian's thing. I miss that distinction between Expansion pack and DLC. Anyway, it's super sad to see BG3's story end here but also understandable, and Vincke is a man of principles (and super pi**ed all of the guys at WoTC they worked with were fired). I'd love to see them handing over the toolsets and assets to a trusted friend though, like Bioware often did back in the day with their erxpansions so they can focus on their next project. It's just hard to imagine who could do it on this level of polish and free of publisher bulls**t.

DLC is just an abbreviation for DownLoadable Content. Just about everything is downloaded digitally these days and we don't call games DLC , just games so it means anything added to the game after it releases not in a patch the great big expansions are included and I'd say are examples of good DLC whereas the garbage like Horse armor is bad DLC. Even with good DLC this can be taken too far imo like in the Grand Strategy genre this is how the developer and publisher Paradox makes the majority of it's money by selling new content to players over many years of post release development and the price to get everything worthwhile can range to $200+ for a say a five+ year old game like Europa Universalis 4 which if I remember right is closer to ten years old thinking about it.

If there is no DLC then release the tools modders need to make their own questlines and areas. Maybe they can fill in all the falsely advertised content that was promised less than a month before launch, before it was cut without so much as a word to clarify that it was being dropped. Also, if they follow the same trend as their last 2 games, we will get a super polished Act 1, an average at best Act 2, and a dogshit Act 3 when released. Same thing happened with DOS2, and I don't see any reason why they would change now.

Bg3 is my favorite game I’ve ever played and I have them to thank for it! Can’t wait to start the wait for their next game with the Wolfpack again! 🐺

Larian could make an RPG about plumbers and it would be awesome id bet. If other companies were smart they be calling wisards of the coast and begging them to let them remake baldurs gates 1 & 2. 0r anything in the DND setting right now while its hot. And yes we all loved the panels of hell.

A true shame larian wants to break away from D&D - though I understand completely as Hasbro are a nightmare. I was hoping for a modern version of never winter knights 2 down the line. not the campaign or story but rather an ability for DMs to make their own stories as mod campaigns.NWN2 - contained all the creation tools and it was super easy to write your own D&D modules. Sadly this was before the days of DLC and easy internet access, pre steam days, pre internet for consoles - it was a couple of years too early. We D&D players and DM's could really use a computer game that gives us these full tools. I do know larian has stated that they want full mod support for bg3.. and that its in the works, but requiring dealing with console manufacturers. - Still hoping we get to write our own campaigns in the BG3 engine - but I remain shocked that larian isn't monetizing this process... a real piece of good will for the community, but its got to be annoying to any investors/shareholders (if there even are any - I don't know if its private or public)

A little sad, but their position is understandable. One reason that I started to play BG3 was familiarity with 5e and Faerun. Looking forward to what they try to do next.

Bigger? That's speculation. Different ? Likely it is different. I was surprised when Sven told the team they were moving on from Baldurs Gate that they welcomed it. I would have thought they wanted to bask in the continued success the game brought. Or maybe they were just bored. But apparently that increased pressure on them to continue to raise the bar. Or so that is what I think. However pivoting to a new completely different game also raises the bar. I would argue even more. I doubt it will be DOS. Why ? Because it's another fantasy. . Lets say they decide to do a space game with the player being either human or alien and establishing a space empire. A game more or less on the lines of Mass Effect. So you play for example not just as Shepard but as a character like Garus Liara , Tali Grunt etc etc with different skills and abilities. By definition that has to have the same excellent voice acting the same mo cap stuff they did with BG3 the same excellent story etc etc except it will not be a fantasy and we know they can do a fantasy well. But as we saw with Bethesda and Starfield a massive change aka we haven't done anything like this before has substantial risk. I think most fans thought Bethesda would do a good job with Starfield and were shocked at how lame the game is. Yes we have faith in Larian but most of us also had faith in Bethesda. Most of us had faith in CDPR before 2077 came out. So because BG3 was excellent is no guarantee a new completely different non fantasy game will be as good or as successful. I thought if we didn't get the upper city we would get some kind of dlc that involved Cyric. If I spelled the name right. They left an opening for that with the fake cow who apparently is a minion of Cyric. But now we won't see Cyric or learn what his plans were. baldursgate.fandom.com/wiki/Cyric So we lost out there . I don't blame Larian or Sven Their game their choice. I doubt we will see another game even coming close to BG3 in excellence and I have 0 faith in the other games Hasbro/WOTC are greenlighting by other developers in their hopes of striking gold again with another video game.

I'm a bit sad or apprehensive. I respect Larian a lot, but I still have to also say that I bought Baldur's Gate 3 because it was a Baldur's Gate and a D&D game. And because of the glowing early access hype from channels like yours, of course. Now that I know what Larian can do, I will of course keep an eye on their future games anyway - it's just that I would hold on to my seat that much tighter if I knew it would be a BG series or D&D game. 😊

Note that Larian did say there were not adding new content to BG3, but still working on bugs, polish, and modding support. So while their focus has shifted to the new game, they are not quite done with BG3. -- Pipe dream here, but imagine in Larian dipped into Dragon Age series at some point, a true successor to DA:O?

And while I'm sad, I'm also incredibly stoked for whatever Larian is working on next. They have my full trust and support. I'll be so excited to play it in Early Access just like BG3. And if they bring back the panels from hell, EVEN BETTER!! ❤

Overall, I like the DLC model when it’s done right. If the market goes nuts for a game, why not put out a new story with the same platform? Let’s say they could do another adventure for two thirds the cost as the last one. Let’s say it’s only 80% as good as BG3. Who would be angry to pay the same thing for the sequel? I wouldn’t. It would still be a good value, IMO. The extra profit means Larian can make more of what we want. That’s what I care about.

Remember that BG4 is not a "nope". It's just not planned now. Sven and Larian just spent 8 years on BG3 and they're still working hard to improve the game until it's perfect in their eyes. Sven is just on another project to keep moving forward, and this project is not BG4. But he never said he will never consider making BG4 after that. The reason why they won't make BG4 right now, probably, is that BG3 was to big and to unique in what they ever achieved that if they worked on making BG4 right now, it would just be BG3 2.0 and they probably want to improve, to make something different. Don't forget that BG3 new "good" ending closes on the promise of another adventure. Keep having hope, and keep having fun on BG3.

@@WolfheartFPS i mean you know you would love it. It could give them the space to expand on vast character builds (something new for Larian) while continuing to drive a good story. And i got a feeling Pathfinder folks might be cool to deal with. Good step towards the "RPGs of all RPGs". And if its similar style or engine as BG3, it might not even take so many years, as they already got a great library of assets that could be reused. 😊

Panel From Hell is an absolute must. It was such a nice time watching them express their love and passion by dressing up and acting things out. I genuinely looked forward to every single one, and usually I go to Game Shows with the expectation of disappointed. I was very disappointed about no DLC or expansions for about half a minute - mostly because I want Karlach to have a good end and I wish there was a way to convince the Emperor to work A Certain Green Dude. I kind of just do not enjoy those parts of them game even now. I suppose a DLC isn't necessary for those to happen. But then I think about how DLC is such a rip off for the most part, and how some players miss some aspects of continuation because they can only afford the base game and I can only respect them for living up to their values. In a time when we have devs telling us we should get used to not owning games and such, Larian is such a breath of fresh air and they have my support no matter what. Super excited to see what they get up to next, without anything holding them back.

Well, you made a very good point - DS 2 blowing DS1 and BG3 blowing DS2. Just to expand on it DS1 was a very well critically acclaimed game, maybe it didn't blow the charts but the general reception of critics and gamers alike was overwhelmingly positive. The same trend was continued by DS2 and when putting DS1 and DS2 side by side, we see cinematic, gameplay and story wise DS2 was a lot better. Given the fact that they only took 2-3 years to shell out DS2. BG3 dwarfed DS2 and was a legit AAA game. Initially I didn't think the cinematic/cutscenes will add much, but it did make the game more enjoyable and put it on the radar of non-hardcore RPG/CRPG gamers which in turn allowed it to be a giga hit.

Swen's philosophy is such a breath of fresh air, and I really don't mind a lack of DLC from it. We know that whatever comes out of Larian is going to be their complete vision for a fully finished product, not some game that is half finished just so that they can make more money down the road like most of the AAA industry seems to do these days.

Act 1 is nearly perfect right before release, but since they added monk on release, there aren't really any magic items for monks until act 2 almost act 3. I hope that they don't polish their act 1 like they did for bg3 if they have classes/builds that doesn't have use until later.
