We have a 9770 Massey and when I got into 3.5 ton pluss grass I couldn't cut it with new knives and max header speed. Used my neighbors NH hw365 and cut it at 7 mph no problem. That 416 with the auger had no trouble in the grass. In alfalfa though Massey for sure! Great video
@THEE_PUMPKIN_LAD2 жыл бұрын
Have you tried tightening the conditioner rollers? Or loosening them? I know that helps quite a bit, and if the grade of cut isn't clean enough, or low enough to the ground for you. You can try adjusting the skid plates located by the joint housing there where you lift the lids up to grease the bearings. And sometimes, full speed isn't the answer either! Sometimes it's too much pressure on the internal for the machine to try to eat all at once. Hope this helps...

Seeing you toss those bales on the truck from the stack that you forgot reminds me of my youth in a small farming community in Indiana. I would hire out in summer while in high school and bale hay for the local farmers. Of course back then (60 years ago) we pulled a hay wagon behind the baler with a rack on the back of the wagon to keep the bales from falling off the back. As I was going to be riding the wagon, I would ask the farmer how he wanted the hay stacked on the wagon. For hay, it was usually "5 high with a tie", for straw it was 6 high, though one or two ask for 7 high with straw. As the farmer drove the tractor, pulling the baler, pulling the wagon where I was located it got exciting at times. I had to pull the bales out of the chute, carry them to the back of the wagon and manually stack them. Of course there was always loose hay on the floor of the wagon which made the footing somewhat unsure. Also, being in Indiana the fields were not as flat as they are in Arizona which added an additional dimension to the task. As the fields were somewhat smaller, the farmer would often rake the fields around the corner in a somewhat circular fashion instead of long straight rows. This meant the we would still be baling as the farmer went around the corner. This also meant that the next bale was being spit out when the tractor, baler and wagon were out of alignment and I would have to stand on the front corner of the wagon and grab it when it was about 2 feet away from the side of the wagon and bring it in. Ah yes, good times!!! As I was 5'8" and weighed maybe 155lbs soaking wet, it got exciting at times. I don't know how much the bales weigh today but back then they were about 1/2 my body weight plus or minus. I did wind up with excellent upper body strength though! ;-)

@thejimmyjob80523 жыл бұрын
Swathers are almost always equipped with crimper rollers. The are rubber or steel rollers that crush the stem of the crop as it passes through, which helps the crop lose moisture faster, meaning they can bale sooner. Triple mowers will often not have conditioners, or they will use flail conditioners which beat the crop into smaller pieces to do very fast drying before chopping. Flail conditioners are not used in hay because they are too rough on the crop, and it makes a poor looking bale. The Krone Big M has no conditioners, meaning they would need an extra pass over the field with a crimper or tedder to help dry, which is more money in the tank. In addition, a Swather is made to run at high speeds for extended periods of time, and even to be roaded often. This helps with wear on the machine, and it makes for a more comfortable operating experience.

1 thing though is you can’t out condition Massey cutters. I specifically remember cutting our crop on the same day as our neighbors. We have 16ft on 9635 they have a 16ft on a macdon. Our hay was raked 2 days earlier. And our first bale was made 3 days before there first. Our crop was actually heavier then there’s too. Keep in mind this 2x the height/yield of crop then in the video. The premo cutters around here in southern ab is a Massey hay cutter. The biggest of hay producers around here use Massey cutter only for the conditioning ability. I’m not sure if you know hubkas or green prairie. Speed of cutting doesn’t matter for us it’s how fast you can have it raked and into a bale and in the shed

Only difference I have seen in two years is with the hydraulics you worry about a hose breaking and killing grass. Thanks Treavor for an interesting video. You taking us along to look over the new swather by New Holland was extremely interesting. Was quite interesting seeing and hearing about the updates and new design of the machine. I must admit that the windrow it laid down was very smooth and even cut. Now I am not a hay person so I say that just looking at it. Seeing the inside of the machine was interesting. Seeing the rubber tubes that squeeze the hay moisture down was new to me. Always wondered how they did that. When those knifes are running, boy that is a high speed situation. 18mph cutting is pretty darn good. Wow. Nice machine. What would a standard machine like that cost??? Is the cab quiet??? The cab and controls I assume are about the same. You said one of your operators used the demo machine. What did he think of it compared to his current machine????? Stay away from the gophers-ha. Leaving a stack in the field-probably have to dock your pay. Many thanks for your time doing this. I found it really interesting. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks. The Iowa farm boy from years ago.

Humm, you think you're dream gophers are big? Muh gophers not only drug in a sofa into their hole, but also a mini fridge. And for me, that was the last straw for them uppity gophers. So I had to go out and buy a flamethrower. Oddly enough it's perfectly legal; not to mention downright flame-throwing awesomeness and fun. BTW: The New Holland windrower looks like it's doing a great job. Windrower? Is that even a word?

Contract truckers.

@@BalesHayFarmandRanch super boring! What are Contract truckers? Here in Texas we only have ourselves! We run our own show!!!!

@@jasonkotara2135 well, this has been a process, and we don’t have tons of money to drop on stuff. So there are several businesses out here that haul commodities. So we have always used contractors to haul our hay. Which is nice, when there is a breakdown, they fix it, not me. When drivers no call, no show, they deal with it. Not me.

@@BalesHayFarmandRanch like I said if we didn't have our own trucks ready and waiting. I really don't know what we would do. Your not looking at trucks for no reason?
