Rainy season is my favorite time in Bali ! Air is cleaner Not as much tourist traffic rates are lower Does not rain all day usually early mornings It is easier to talk to locals they seem more relaxed and not rushing around Air is cooler Its much more lush and green The rain at night is great to sleep hearing on the roof It is a great time of year

Something you haven't mentioned and I think is quite important is the fact that the air quality in and straight after the rainy season is much, much better. The rain gets rids of all the dust and pollution you normally get around May when the dry season kicks off. I most recommended visiting Bali in February.
@Wagefreedom6 жыл бұрын
Lukasz C. This is an excellent point. I really should have mentioned it in this video too Lukasz. The burning in the dry season can be an issue for some people, but even if it's not, as you say more wind in the rainy season definitely makes the air cleaner. I notice it too.

Hi Mark - in the past few days we've started to get some rain in Bali but it's mostly pretty light and also isn't for the whole day. In my opinion to it's easier to walk around when it's bit overcast compared to bright sunshine which can be absolutely wilting. And as I say it's never cold so it's not like you need to retreat indoors. This rainy season seems light, at least so far, so you should be in luck.

@Wagefreedom5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ewa-- happy if I give you any clarity-- as I say the real issue is if we get a storm, which could linger for a few days. The normal pattern is sun breaks during most days, even for hours at a time. Also it will probably rain more up in Ubud then down here at the beach areas if you're really worried. Well I hope that helps--my real point, at least my opinion, is that Bali is still nice in the rainy season.

The first three days it was very nice weather but from than we have got allmost every day rain from around 13-14 hours in the afternoon . Sometimes very heavy rain . I can tell you it was absolutely not nice . We could do every morning some outside trips but allmost never in the afternoon . We where not in Bali to sit inside at coffeeshops our restaurants , we wanted to be outside in the beautiful nature of Bali what was not possible in the afternoon . No for us that was very disappointing. Only the four days when we where on the Nusa islands it was good weather and in the beginning of our vacation. All the rest rain, rain rain . Hello Tom, Great video ! Which area do you suggest to spend New Year's Eve in Bali ? If possible, near convenience stores, food street markets and easy way to go around the island. Thank you so much.
@Wagefreedom10 ай бұрын
Hi Antonio! Well, New Year's Eve itself needs its own approach lol, because the traffic is quite *amazing*. However, with a little planning, this is actually no big deal. Here's how you do it. You just can't expect to be driving around on New Year's. But beach clubs, hotels, and restaurants all have packages that you can buy for the whole night, and that's the way to do it on New Year's In Bali. Pick a place, and you're set. Another option is to go to the beach, because from Kuta all the way up to Seminyak and beyond it's one big party on the sand on New Year's Eve. It has to be said, there's often rain on New Year's Eve. So that's the risk you take if your plan is to be partying on the beach. Anyway, the point is that there are easy ways around the NYE traffic in Bali and in my opinion, everybody should experience New Year's Eve in Bali at least once! I hope that helps Antonio.

Thanks for this info: can you make an update on the Mt. Agung situation ?
@Wagefreedom7 жыл бұрын
Hi Madonna-- thanks for the comment. Funny you should mention the volcano. I'll have to do an update. Just yesterday was the first day since September that zero seismic activity was reported under and around Mt. Agung. I would imagine that's good news. I stopped checking the Skyvector site for reports of ash a couple of weeks ago. We never got any visible ash on the ground in the beach areas, even when the ash dispersion ranged over us and the airport was closed for 3 days back in---was it November? Bottom line, your guess is as good as mine but hopefully they lower the alert level soon (I think it's still at the highest level), and some of these poor people who have been living in evacuation centers for months can go home. Well, many have but I think there are still about 50k people waiting to go home. For now, I would have zero hesitation coming to Bali for a holiday, though it has been the rainy-est rainy season I can remember! The beach areas have been normal this whole time---you'd never know there was a volcano erupting on the island if you visited the tourist areas. It looks like a normal low-season amount of tourists to me now in Kuta/Seminyak.

Hello, how is the coronavirus situation in bali? How has it effected the daily life? I was thinking of moving there but now it seems the borders will be open after october...
@Wagefreedom4 жыл бұрын
Hi Doruk -- the Balinese and the provincial government are doing a very good job in my opinion of trying to control Covid-19. They are contact tracing and enforcing mask wearing. The beaches are closed and that's enforced, at least from Kuta up to Petitenget and probably points north. They currently have road blocks set up so that you can't get into Denpasar without a good reason. So hopefully the numbers start receding here in in Bali and the rest of Indonesia soon. As of now (late May 2020) we only have--in terms of declared cases--less than 400, less than 100 active cases and 4 deaths, so Bali has gone through this relatively unscathed so far at least. For now the tourist areas basically have no tourists, since the VOA/Visa On Arrival isn't being given out at the moment. So as to your question, coming now isn't an option anyway. I've heard June, I've heard October for starting to re-open things but realistically I think they are waiting to see what happens with declared case numbers, which makes total sense. What I would say is that a Bali trip or move to Bali later in 2020 might be a *very* good idea. I'd expect there will be some amazing deals on hotels and apartment rentals whenever they do open things up, and the Balinese will be very happy to see you as always. I hope that helps Doruk.

Hi Julian ---- well if it's just two weeks and you're looking for a beach holiday, Bali will probably have the onshore wind and the beach won't be as nice as it is in the dry season. One part of Thailand I've been to a few times in January is Koh Chang, by the Cambodian border. Just three or four hours by minibus from Bangkok and you have a chance for a side trip to Angkor Wat. Places like Koh Samui in the south can be very rainy in January so if it was Thailand and you wanted a beach holiday I would think seriously about Koh Chang. I hope that helps!

HI! Great Video - thank you! Me and my husband are going to Asia in march. We are thinking about visiting Bali or Thailand. I Have been to Bali in May 2017 and LOVED it. My question is, How much does it rain in mid-march during the day`? And to the beaches: Is it primarily Kuta/Seminyak area that has the litter issue? Or is it all around the island? What about litter in the Gilis? Again, thank you for the video:-)
@Wagefreedom5 жыл бұрын
Hi Maria, and thanks for your questions. By mid-March the rain really should be about over, and the thing is this year 2019/2020 has been an extremely light rainy season. No other way to say it, now here at the end of January. Right now there's no litter on the beach at all which is frankly really unusual but obviously welcome. Bali really could use more rain though. I suppose this means that the rainy season could come late with a vengeance, who can say, but right now it's looking like the whole season is going to be light. Was almost cloudless today and I just got back from the beach and there's virtually no litter at all. Not sure if Canggu or or Sanur for example gets less later than we do around Seminyak, I just don't know, same I'm afraid with the Gili Islands and your question of litter there. I hope all that helps Maria and remember even if you are seeing rain here there's normally some hours during the day that are sunny, even in a normal year.

@Wagefreedom6 жыл бұрын
Hi Shreya and thanks for your question -- I'm not sure if it is raining in Lombok and the Gili Islands but I can say that we here in the southwest corner of Bali (Seminyak) have only had a little in the last couple of weeks, basically at night. I'd assume that the rains are subsiding over there too, and even if they are getting a little rain you should have plenty of mornings/afternoons that should be sunny, at the very least.

Hi….Excellent video wage. I need some details, I am planning to travel to Bali with my wife during December 5th to 10th. I am coming from India for my 1st anniversary. Should I be worry about rains? I am very excited about the trip, will there be any chances that my money will be wasted? Thanks in advance.
@Wagefreedom2 жыл бұрын
Hi Malladi-- well in December there will probably be rain, and there's no point in me saying otherwise. However, it's not like an Indian monsoon. The pattern--generally, on the southwest coast in places like Seminyak and Canggu--is rain later in the day and at night, with bright sunshine for hours earlier in the day. If it rains earlier in the day it will often clear up and a few hours later be sunny. An exception to this pattern is when there is a storm, in which case you will have a few days of pretty consistent rain with onshore winds that can make the beach no fun. These storms seem more common (to me anyway) in January/Feb. The season also varies quite a bit too. Sometimes the rain starts in September, and a few years ago we had hardly any rain until January. I will say this, and I think I did say it in this video: if you're in a nice place where you can chill out until the rain passes, there is a real beauty to Bali in the rainy season. It's even more lush and green, and unless you're intent on getting out and going places a lot, it's a very nice setting in which to slow down. Anyway, I hope that helps. You can easily be in for hours of bright sunshine each day, but if there's a storm when you come it might be wetter than you hoped. Good luck there.

Hi Khalid--- well I'd be reluctant to suggest you cancel your trip and possibly get flight or hotel cancellation penalties. I definitely also wouldn't say that it will not rain. I can't say that of course, but I'll tell you that this rainy season is starting late, only one night of good rain so far in the beach areas. This might mean it will be a light season, although we certainly can't be sure. Also if you are thinking about staying in Ubud there will be more rain there than the beach areas. If it was me I would come, because there are usually hours each day of sunshine, unless a storm comes in, in which case it could be rainy all day for a few days. I hope that helps you Khalid!

Hi Manpreet-- well that will definitely be rainy season, but it's not like an Indian monsoon, there are usually sun breaks, unless there's a storm which can last for a few days. I've been to Gili Trawangan in December and there was plenty of sunshine, rain more at night. I haven't been to Nusa Penida in the rainy season but I imagine it's similar. Bottom line it wouldn't stop me from going to either place. I hope that helps!

Hi, we are planning on going to sanur at the beginning of March 2021, but how is the weather over there? Does it rain quite a lot or is it some rainy moment during the day, but there’s still enough sun to tan ;). Or it is raining al day long over (at sanur). I’ve never been to Indonesia so I have no clue what to expect. :)
@Wagefreedom4 жыл бұрын
Hi Quinty! Well March is basically when we start to change from the rainy to the dry season. Some years you'll have very little rain in the beach areas in March, some years you might have some rain most days. Two things: I see you'll be staying in Sanur, but just fyi if one is staying in Ubud or up away from the beaches you'd have a little more rain than down here at the beach. Also, remember that even if it's raining, most days still have hours of sunshine. It can change very quickly, heavy rain in the morning and bright sun by early afternoon. I hope that helps.

Hi Salma-- this rainy season 2019/2020 might be a dry one, here it is mid - Nov. And we've had only one night of rain so far. Even if it does rain as I say in the video Bali has a beauty in the rainy season that you'll see if you're a little flexible, and it doesn't rain all day every day. I think there are a lot of younger travelers including single women who come here and have a great time. And I'm sure you'll meet a lot of like minds, especially in Canggu and Ubud. Hi there, thanks for the video that was really useful. I was wondering just how rainy it is in January in Bali, obviously it depends on the year but is it likely to rain for 5 hours a day every day of the month or just a couple of hours a day or can you go days without any rain at all? I’m going on a Surf Camp in Canggu for a week in Jan, as it’s rainy season I’m hoping that the surf will be better but equally I don’t want to be going out in the rain everyday too! 😬 Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer 😊
@Wagefreedom6 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlotte and thanks for your question. Well we do get storms in the rainy season that will have it raining and pretty hard onshore winds on the southwest side of the island for days. That happens. The normal pattern would be more like rain in the morning and then sun in the afternoon or vice versa. It seems to rain more at night. I know if you're staying in Canngu you'd rather surf there but remember that when it's hard onshore over on this side of the island you csn still go over to Nusa Dua and reefs on that side of the island. That's a long way though and maybe not something you'd want to do everyday. I have a couple of hardcore surf friends here who do this year round who think nothing of it, but it does require quite a bit of time on your motorbike. I hope that helps, good luck to you Charlotte.

@Wagefreedom5 жыл бұрын
Hi Archit, and thanks for your question--- I honestly don't think it will be any more complicated to bring a baby here to Bali in the rainy season than it would be at other times. This is not a monsoon as in India, it is rain during the nights, and and during the days usually with sun breaks unless there is a storm, in which case you might get a few rainy days in a row. But nothing that would make it much more complicated than it would be during the dry season, in my opinion. I hope that helps Archit!

If you have a link I'd really appreciate it if you could put it in a reply below my reply here. In the rainy season you might find a few more mosquitoes, depending really on where you are on the island, but I think taking normal precautions to reduce how much you and your child gets bitten by mosquitoes is the way to go. I hope that helps Menna.

Hi Menna and thanks for the link. Well I'm no doctor but there is a vaccine for Japanese encephalitis, you might think about getting that for you and your family before you come. My wife said she had heard that there's an outbreak here but I had not even heard about this. It's mostly transmitted by mosquitoes and it's a good idea here to take precautions against being bitten anyway. I don't think there's any malaria in Bali but people do get sick from dengue fever sometimes, which is also transmitted by mosquitoes. It wouldn't be responsible for me to tell you to not worry about it. It's probably a good idea to get that vaccine if it's not too expensive. I hope all that helps Menna, good luck to you.

Il be in bali the 1st January 2020. The first 7 days in Seminyak and 3 days in Ubud. Google says there will be thunderstorms. How bad is it? Will there atleast be sun during the day?
@Wagefreedom5 жыл бұрын
Hi Miriam--right now (Dec 13th 2019) aside from some rain in the late afternoon/early evening yesterday in the beach areas of Seminyak, after very intermittent rain earlier this month, the Bali rainy season isn't really underway. 'Underway' in this context means the same pattern every day where late afternoon clouds give way to rain throughout the evening, and there's some rain during the day at some point. We're not yet there yet, in the beach areas anyway. This could mean that first 10 days of 2020 will remain relatively dry, but I don't think even Google can give us certainty about this. The thing about this time of year is that we'll be going along with the normal pattern of rain at night and some during the day with hours of sunshine as well, and then a storm comes in with heavy onshore winds and rain for three or four days. Again, the normal pattern is usually not overwhelmingly wet and rainy--it is these storms that could interfere with your holiday. One other thing, not to overstate it but Ubud and areas further up into the hills and mountains of Bali will definitely see more precipitation than down here at the beach. As I say in the video if one isn't looking for a day at the beach--and you won't be, in Ubud--the rain can actually enhance the lush tropical feel of rainy season Bali. That's *just my opinion* but I've spent so many long days and evenings in restaurants or friends' villas enjoying lazy times and just letting the rain fall. And I really should say it again, because it surprises a lot of people when they experience it: tropical rain isn't cold the way most of us are used to it in cooler parts of the world. In these latitudes an umbrella and proper footwear--maybe keeping a rain poncho with you too--are all you need to go on with your day if it is wet outside. I don't know if I've given you and others any real certainty here regarding your holiday specifically, but I hope that helps Miriam.

Hey! Thanks for the video, i will be visiting in about 2 weeks, how has the rain been so far? Is it still warm enough for shorts?
@Wagefreedom5 жыл бұрын
Hi Lex! The rainy season came late this year. In the beach areas on the southwest coast it didn't really get going until the first of the year. So we're getting sunshine every day and at least some rain every day too. It's not like it's raining most of the day but it's cloudy. To be honest clouds can be welcome here because it's so wiltingly hot when it is cloudless. To answer your question, in the beach areas, even when it's raining hard you could still wear shorts out no problem, even at night. It's never cold. In Ubud and other places in the hills it'll be a couple degrees cooler but even then it is definitely not cold. When the wind whips up it can be rather unpleasant and it rains hard for two or three days in a row sometimes but it's not like you have to retreat inside to avoid getting cold. I hope all that helps Lex!

My husband and I would like to stay at least a year. We went to Labuan Bajo for a month last year and absolutely loved it. Also what agency did you use?
@Wagefreedom5 жыл бұрын
Hi Trina and thanks for your question. Using a social visa and then doing a visa run and getting another one immediately in order to stay for a year won't be a problem for you. You can definitely stay for a while using them. I don't use an agency because I have an old friend who used to be an agent, but I don't recommend him anymore because his business has switched over to creating corporate structures for foreigners. He just does my visa renewals as a favor for me. I have never used this company but I've heard good things about them from many people. They can give you everything you need for your Social Visa before you even leave home so you don't have to come on a VOA and then go to Singapore and get a Social Visa issued to you there. I hope this helps! ( I have no relationship with this company at all by the way) visaforbali.com/content/contact

Hi and thank you for your question Abhiraj! Well, January's right in the middle of the rainy season, when the beaches on the west side of the island get hit by onshore winds. That brings trash on to the sand. Some years are worse than others. This was a bad year. Not the worst one I've ever seen. The sand is clean again from Kuta to Seminyak because the onshore winds are now finished, as is the rain in this part of the island. I hope that helps!

Excellent Video. Thanks for uploading. I am planning on visiting with family during last 2 weeks of November 2019. Am I right in saying it will rain for a few hours in early morning around 7am and then again around 3-4pm for another few hours? So it stays dry throughout the period in between? As we have children, we don't plan to venture go out at night. The other worry is whether paths, roads, grass etc will become Muddy as we are planning on visiting a few waterfalls, temples etc. Final question is should we be worried about flooding at all? Thank you!
@Wagefreedom6 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thanks for your question -- well there sometimes is standing water in low spots around the tourist areas, shouldn't hard to avoid and it would usually be more of an inconvenience than anything. Yes it can get muddy just depending where you are. Especially with kids I'd think most of your trips would be in vehicles as opposed to walking long distances though. If it's not raining it's hot. As to your question about rain, I wouldn't try to nail down times of days for rain, no offense. In November it's possible you will see no rain at all in the tourist areas for example. That was the case I think this rainy season, but in 2017 it was raining a lot in November. I wish I could give you more certainty but I'd be misleading you if I implied that I could. Generally it will rain more at night, late at night like between midnight and dawn, but as I say if a storm comes it can rain hard for days. This would be less likely in Nov. than January, but anything is possible. I hope that helps. It will probably rain less than you think in November, all in all.

Hi Lalit! Well as I say you can expect some rain in February but mostly at night unless there's a big storm, and there's usually sun breaks during the day, often for hours. If you want nightlife, good restaurants and good proximity the beach, in 2019 -- 2020 I would take a look at Petitenget basically Seminyak north of Oberoi Street. Even though there's a lot of traffic nowadays it's easy to find nice quiet villas down little alleys. Canggu of course is very popular with digital nomads/digital expats as well. If the ocean isn't so important to you, Ubud can be nice and in February it shouldn't be too crowded. Hope thst helps!

Generally earlier will be less rain, but it's really impossible to say what week will be best in October. Also, this year (2018) has been really strange, with a lot of rain even during the days in what's supposed to be the dry season (roughly April to Sept/Oct). As I write this I'm looking at rain right now, in August in Seminyak, very unusual. If you're coming I'd have a solid plan to keep things dry if you're caught out in the rain, and really in SE Asia it pays to be prepared all the time anyway. I hope that helps!

Hi Hela-- what I'd say is don't worry, it's warm in the ocean all year round. Also the weather is warm at all times too, you can always go out in shorts even at 2 AM, any month of the year. Even if it's raining! If you haven't spent much time at this latitude it's just a totally different situation than what you'd be used to in colder countries. The only thing is in the rainy season it's pretty windy and the beach is not as pleasant as the dry months, April through September or October. But temperature is not an issue.

Great vid! You say early December is a great time to visit but that it gets very crowded over the Christmas/New Year holidays. Would you recommend avoiding a trip from mid December to mid January if possible?
@Wagefreedom6 жыл бұрын
Hi Brandon -- Thanks Well it depends on what you like, I guess. About 4 days before New Years it does start to really get crowded but it's a great scene if you're here for a party, people from all over the world, etc. Then it clears out in a few days and it's quiet again. As far as weather goes, it's that tropical thing of quick changes, the morning can be raining like it will never stop but by afternoon it's sunny and hot. Or vice versa. We do get multi-day storms during the rainy season with constant rain and hard onshore winds that keep most people off the beach. That would tend to be Dec--Feb but you ever know. All in all I'd say that if you have a plan for stuff to do when it rains it's OK. Sitting with a laptop or book watching the rain with your beverage of choice in one of Bali's 1001 outstanding restaurants, well it's really nice.... Personally I wank every day on the beach, and in the rainy season just go in my swim trunks. Is that crazy? Who knows or cares, it's not cold and there's a beauty to even 'bad' weather imo, at least at these latitudes. Not sure if people coming from the N. Hemisphere are disappointed if they find rain during their winter months, but at least it's never cold and as I say you'll get sunshine in the rainy season too. I hope that helps Brandon!

Would it be possible in doing aquatic activities like surfing, snorkelling in Late November, early December? I’ve been only reading mixed opinions about this.
@Wagefreedom6 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thanks for your question! If you're a surfing beginner you can still definitely learn in the rainy season. Conditions aren't the best but you won't mind the onshore wind in the southwest of the island as much as experienced surfers would. Snorkeling will be another issue as the water will be less clear in the rainy season in most places. There might be spots you can still go however. Also as I say in the video, in most of the rainy season it's not like you've always got rain and wind all day long, although we do have days like that. If you're here for a week or two you'll probably have some days it will be friendly for surfing and snorkeling, bottom line. I hope that helps!

Hi Ola-- unless there is a storm, which can last for 3 or 4 days with wind and pretty consistent rain, the normal rainy season pattern is to have rain and sunshine just about every day. It really changes quickly, and when the sun breaks thru it'll be as hot as ever. Also I'll say from experience: one time before we got our condo we rented a villa for a couple of months in the rainy season, and it was great! Even when it was raining it was very pleasant to swim, and since we were in a big fully-equipped house, as you'll be, we didn't really need to go anywhere. You'll have a nice garden and it will never be cold at all. You should be fine. I hope that helps.

And by that I mean food from all over Asia and any kind of Western food you feel like as well. Eating in Bali is a real pleasure and inexpensive too. If you're feeling adventurous I'd suggest getting a little bit out of Kuta, take a taxi to places like Seminyak, Kerobokan and Petitinget both for a different shopping experience than you'll find in Kuta as well as a wider mix of restaurants and nightlife. In any case there's something for everybody here, that's for sure. I hope that helps Chris!

Hi Shreya, well I've never been to Nusa Penida during the rainy season but I think the boats are running, shouldn't be a problem.
