Just got my second Bali today (nautilus) and at first i didn’t really like it because of its weight compared to my first (barebones lol) but the balance and smoothness is incredible! Can’t wait to get used to how light it is because the handles are so much easier to control and it feels so much better than the barebones.

My first balisong was made out of lego, it was unusable, I bought a 5 dollar balisong on wish, after that I upgraded to a 15 dollar one. With the 15 dollar one I really got into balisongs and I wanted to be even better so I ordered a Squiddy B, Ive had it for maybe a year now I think and I recently ordered the Mako V4 to upgrade from a plastic material. I recommend doing the same, go slowly from a cheap balisong to a more expensive one
@polarflaps2 жыл бұрын
Balisong Flipping is an expensive hobby and I had the same approach, easing my way into more expensive knives. I am uneasy about making a large purchase such as the Mako V4, as it is a large investment. I definitely agree with your statement and also recommend it to new flippers.

I started on a Lego Balisong. My cousin got me into it but my parents didn’t let me get a real one for a long time. My cousin and I put bite handle markers on the bottem to make it a bit heavier. He allowed my to use his nautilus while he wasn’t using it. He suggested that I start getting into it. He got me my first real Balisong which was a falcon by theone. He used a live blade to get started and it is super sharp. I was flipping it amazingly too.
@theredstormer80782 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Moral of the story: my $200 was better spent on my resin 3d printer than a balisong cause I can experiment and make a bunch of different balisongs with a $35 1kg bottle of resin. Not saying expensive ones ain't worth it, I'm just saying I agree with the idea of experimenting with DIY options beforehand to see what you like. Course resin breaks when you drop it sometimes and isn't as heavy as metal.

Ngl, I hop hobbies often and can tell you if I can spend less that $100 to try a random hobby I'm on it in a heartbeat because that is a bargain. Balisong starting generally ranges at least $300 to get the full effect. If you spend less than that you may get the general idea, but you will most likely not pursue the endeavor... that is not just with balisongs but really most hobbies you could pick up... (for the record I am basing this off general minimum wage rates in America at the time... overall my expectation is around 30% of weekly pay to start, 5% to maintain. (like I said I try many hobbies and based on my experience this is reasonable)

Every hobby is expensive if you're into it. Realistically the "cheap" knives are still solid, I've had a cheapo 40 dollar knife for over half of my time spent on the planet and it ain't fell apart yet. Personally I'd just recommend people start at the 20 dollar mark, if you can't afford to eat 20 bucks then you have bigger concerns than a butterfly knife hobby, a 20 dollar knife can last you a long time provided it's from a decent source and you aren't beating it with hammers all day

Nice, just watched your Mako 4.5 video too to get a comparison. I'm leaning towards the Mako over the Nautilus because if someone at a picnic or party wants their bottle opened, I could whip it out, do like a 20 second demo, then open their bottle to great applause and admiration. 👋👋👋😂 In all seriousness, I would think one of the biggest factors in Balisong selection would be the closeness in feel of a trainer compared to the real version.

I started with an ultra cheap Wish balisong. After a week, there is 3 full handle widths play in the handles, all the screws came factory stripped, the air here is extremely salty so it’s rusted even though it’s advertised as “stainless steel” it keeps seizing mid trick because of the immense amount of slop. Its extremely loud, heavy, as smooth a sandpaper. TL;DR it’s built like a cardboard submarine. The week or so when it functioned was fun, so I’ve decided to go for a titanium modded Squiddy B. Its lighter, not extremely expensive, and hopefully very resistant to my climate. Titanium is from what I’ve read very resistant to the extremely salty air, and plastic does not care if the air is salty. Our walls rot, stainless steel and aluminum rusts, basically nothing is safe from the salty air.
