My dad is a green beret and in the special forces. I hate it when people disrespect the military and our country. You know it's hard being a military child, you are constantly moving and switching schools and making new friends that don't stay with you forever. My dad deploys very often and sometimes I don't even know if he will come home :(

USMC vet here.. Wanted to give you guys a shout-out... Mad respect for the Green Berets... They came to Camp Pendleton once to train our Infantrymen on tactics and strategies. To say that our guys were left in awe and extremely impressed would be an understatement... Our Marine Raiders modeled much of our ITC course on what they learned from attended the Green Beret Q-Course... That in and of itself spoke VOLUMES because when designing the ITC course they sent the best Force Reconnaissance Marines to the Q-Course, BUDS along with a few other top notch schools.. From what I was told, your training was MUCH more valuable... Thanks for all that you do... Semper Fi!!

My dad was in the Navy during 'Nam, and then in the National Guard. he used to sing this song all the time when i was growing up. One of the things I love so much about this song is that it also honors the family of the person in the military, mentioning their sacrifice, because when a person signs up for the military, their whole family is an addendum on that contract. I never saw my dad happier than when he went to Jump School and earned his paratrooper wings. It scared the living daylights out of my mom because he didn't think to call her until he'd completed all his jumps. He passed away from Renal Cell Carcinoma due to exposure to Agent Orange on March 23,2017. We lost but a father and husband, but Heaven gained a sailor. I miss you so much,Daddy...sail on!

One of my buddies at work used to fly chopper for these guys. This is a guy who has had three choppers shot out from underneath him. In a conversation about US Army Special Forces, he said, and I quote: "Those guys are fucking NUTS!" Thank God we have soldiers of such bravery that even the brave among us consider them insane. I have nothing but the utmost admiration for that brand of insanity. I hope it inspires more courage in all true patriots!

When I hear this song it’s a reminder of many things. When I was young there was this war that I saw every evening on the six o’ clock news. Before that time war was only in the movies for me. The Viet Nam war got into my life. The street I lived off of had five to six young men who grew up together, joined the army together, and they all but one died in that war. The street was very quiet without them in the years afterwards. My brothers best friend that was just a few years older than me joined up and went to Viet Nam. He was wounded and couldn’t recover enough to return to combat so he became an instructor in Fort Lewis Washington until the war ended. My little brother was drafted and went to the war as a truck driver. We worried about him but he finally came back. When your not part of a war like a soldier, you live with its remnants. The sadness of lost friends. Being a pen pal to my brother’s best friend while he was gone helped me get to know him. He’s gone now but I remember how proud he was of his army time. The Green Beret song came out of that war. It’s not the only song from that time. Every war has famous songs from each time period. KZbin is generous enough to share them all with us. These songs invoke a lot of feelings. They make you remember that time period. When John Wayne made that movie about the Green Berets I liked it. I loved that the song came with it. It may not feel important enough to call war songs part of our national consciousness. But it feels like it to me. The war was heavily protested at home. Vets were mistreated. Movies were later made to show the wars after effects. But through it all is this song. No other singer that I’ve listened to makes me feel the same as the original. Music lasts while the pain and sadness of war dims with time. Today we’ve just come out of another very long war. So far I’ve seen movies about it but no inspiring songs. We need one. This war looked like it started at home in the USA. But our enemies were out there in plain sight. They are still there.

I worked out at Coors over 20 years with a former Green Beret that was in the original battalion that had their Green Beret's personally handed to them on the South lawn by JFK in 1961. This soldier was in Korea and shot down two Mig-15s with a 50 cal on a tank. He was always a paratrooper and when he had his chance to go to GB training he jumped at it. As a vet I will always remember this exceptional soldier. He was one of America's Best. All the Way George! God Bless.

@@emmadavis1102 Well I mean they DO have the right to do that, It is part of why many have died. To have the right to either stand, kneel, or sit, though I do agree that in certain casing involving politics it's some what disrespectful, but again, they did die for that person to have the right to not have to stand, but I mean idk I have rather mixed feelings about it

My dad was a 20-year US Army medic. He served in London in WWII and in an evacuation hospital in Korea. He spent his last 7 years in the service assigned to the 82nd Airborne at Womack Hospital at Fort Bragg as an x-ray tech. I grew up in enlisted housing at Fort Bragg, from age 4 to 11. I woke up every morning to the sound of a group of booted feet running in formation down the street outside my bedroom window. In my heart, all US soldiers are my childhood heroes. If it is true that Russia paid bounties for the killing of American soldiers in Afghanistan, I hope to all that is holy that every single last person involved will be brought to justice and pay with their lives.

Don't know how PT is these days, but back in the mid 70's you ran 4 miles in 28 minutes combat boots up hills down hills did not matter average 7 minute miles and if you did not make time in the morning you ran again in the afternoon until you made that 28 minute 4 mile time
