The hymn of the United States Marine Corps (From The Halls of Montezuma).
Lyrics (Even though there are none in this version):
From the halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli,
We fight our country's battles
in the air on land and sea.
First to fight for right and freedom,
and to keep our honor clean,
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.
(End lyrics)
Played by "The President's Own" United States Marine Band!

My husband is deceased now, and he also thought in Vietnam. I do so appreciate the men that were in that war, and all the other wars that we’ve had in this world. Thank God for our soldiers. I was a very young woman at that time and desperately wanted to join the Marines. But of course my parents would not hear nothing of it. I was only 16 at the time. I still wish to this day I could have been a part of the service I wouldn’t of cared if it was Marines, Navy, or army. I just want to thank you for the service that you have done for this country.

Once a Marine, always a Marine! I left a lot of blood, sweat and tears on those wooden floors at Parris Island in 1964. My Senior Drill Instructor told me, "You May Have Thought That I Was Picking On You For Twelve Weeks, But Son, I Tried To Teach You Things That Would Save Your Life." Thank you S/Sgt. Smith! What this man taught me, helped me to get through Vietnam, and through life! I will never regret being a United States Marine: It made me into the Man that I am today! God Bless The United States Marine Corps!

My father barely graduated high school in June 1941. Six months later he was on Guadalcanal supervising repairs and the airfield for a little outfit known as the Black Sheep Squadron. He never flew but one day Pappy Boyington saluted him, stepping to his cockpit. My dad didn't divulge all this until a few months before his death. Combat vets seldom crow. Semper Fi, sir.

Complete Lyrics: From the Halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli; We fight our country's battles In the air, on land, and sea; First to fight for right and freedom And to keep our honor clean; We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marine. Our flag's unfurled to every breeze From dawn to setting sun; We have fought in every clime and place Where we could take a gun; In the snow of far-off Northern lands And in sunny tropic scenes, You will find us always on the job The United States Marines. Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve; In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve. If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes, They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.

Jan 5, 2020: I dedicate this to Sgt Manuel R. Martinez, 23, of Albuquerque, who was killed in a car crash on Aug 22, 1975 south of Santa Fe. He was a Marine with a shy grin, warm heart, gentle spirit and a strong work ethic. Manuel was returning to the city after a long work week at the Farmington, New Mexico mines, when he rolled his 240Z Datsun. He trained at Camp Pendleton and served a year in Okinawa. He wrote often....I fell in love with him by the time I graduated from high school. Unfortunately, my mother didn't like him and kept us apart most of the time. Needless to say, I did not handle his death well. *For God did not send his Son Jesus to condemn the world but to save it. John 3:17 Blessings, KATRINA

Jina Jimenez You are so sweet for saying your thank you to the mothers who raised their sons that became Marines!! I was a single mother their whole life, their father abandoned them while they were in diapers, never saw then, and both of my children, 2 boys, joined the Marine Corps!!!!!! 13 days after September 11th, my oldest son was on the bus to Parris Island just like others who wanted to get the terrorists that took so many lives, and talk about coincidence, he graduated on his birthday, December 21st! My youngest son joined the Marine Corps in 2006, fully knowing that the most vicious murders of innocent people was being filmed by the terrorists and put on their tv channel. There was no reason at all for the decapitation of them. My youngest son wanted to get those guys more than ever. And here's another coincidence... He was born on Flag Day, which is June 14th! To all who serve, thank you! Semper fi

My father, my grandfather, and his father all served in the Corps. Great Grandpa went off to fight the Japanese and died on a white sand beach with the sun shining. He died doing what he wanted to do. Grandpa fought the North Koreans in a war no one cared about. He still has Communist shrapnel in his upper legs. Then he fought the Vietnamese in a war everyone hated. He has a glass shard in his upper back. Not from combat, he got off his plane, hugged his mother, and kissed his wife. And didn't see the long-haired man in a tie-dye jacket swinging a bottle at his head. My dad enlisted in 1977 and went through college on the G.I. bill. He was never in a war, but he still was willing to die for this family and his way of life. That's what this country was founded on. And it's what's kept this country strong for as long as it has. And, God willing, it will keep our country strong for another 200 years.

My father landed on Iwo Jima on D-Day February 19, 1945, at age 17. He was severely wounded on March, 15. He never talked about it but wrote out his recollections a few years before his death in 2010 - thank goodness. Greatest Country on Earth? Did you know, that in the last ten years 60000 Veterans died by their own hand? That´s more than US-Soldiers died in Vietnam. Did you know, that a big count of veterans is homeless? That they lose their wives and kids? Seems, you don´t know these facts. Otherwise you would not write " proud to be an american".

Absolute crap ! The USA came to defend the USA..NOT AUstralia...otherwise the fighting would have had to been initiated from the WEST coast of the USA, which incidentally is still a dam long way from the Philippines. Just a bit of additional information, more BRITISH soldiers fought and died against MORE Japanese forces than the US fielded in the Pacific....hey if YOU don't believe me put in your sources and I will give YOU mine.................Truth before lies.....

That is false. The US had both more casualties and more men fighting in the pacific than Britain. The United States had 3,000,000 men fighting Japan, while Britain had 400,000. The US also had 426,000 casualties and Britain had 240,000.

Sq12Sq22u22 I don’t know how you can believe that, Britain was facing complete annihilation in Europe alone. At Dunkirk there were 400,000 men which was Britain’s ENTIRE ARMY. That’s why In the Pacific they lost Hong Kong and many other British territories, they didn’t have the men. However when the US came in we had 11 MILLION men in total that volunteered and we sent 3,000,000 to the Pacific. If we had not intervened in the Pacific Australia sadly would have fallen to the Imperial Army, Yamamoto and Tojo all wanted Sydney harbor for their ships. Read a history book.

However when I hear some other Americans "pound their chests" and exclaim that they are proud to be American, I sometimes cringe! America has a checkered past, we have not always done the right thing. And the way things are going, I might want to move to Canada, France, Great Britain, or some other European country. I believe in being inclusive, not divisive. Our family has two men who are graduates of the Air Force Academy. My father was in the 2nd and 4th Divisions. He fought at Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. He is in the combat footage “With the Marines on Tarawa”. He had just turned 19 the month before. He has two Purple Hearts for the wounds that took him off the line. I know for fact he was wounded more than twice. He just wouldn’t leave his fellow Marines. That was common among his generation as I’m certain is as common even today. I joined the Army but I always tried to exemplify what my father instilled in me. You Marines always.have a special place in my heart. When I hear the Hymn I think of my dad. When I watch the combat footage of Tarawa I can see him again. God Bless The United States Marine Corps. Thank you dad for protecting our freedom.

People need to learn what the shores of Tripoli are about. Thomas Jefferson was tired of Muslims enslaving American sailors and did something about it.

Muslims enslaved more than one million European men women and children for more than 200 years before President Jefferson and the Marines put an end to it in 1807. The two Berbery wars which the US basically ended the slavery in Europe.

I can trace my Marine family history back to the Civil War and have a Marine family member who served in every major war. I used to go see the Marine Corp band with my grandparents all the time until their death. So proud of my country and the Marine Corps!
