Im an audio tech at our LGU. The people working for live stream is from a different team. They have their on compressors and limitters. I had NO IDEA that i was my job to give them an independent mix from my foh. The sample you gave was night and day. And that is whats currently happening to our live stream. Thank you for this!

this is awesome info! I never thought about an isolated mix for broadcast, and you're right. my problem is I'm not a church, I'm a bar band who wants to live stream my shows. I'm in different venue every time. in looking at the second video in this series, the amount of set up and tear down to make this happen would take a crew I can't afford to pay. I HAVE to be the live sound tech (from the stage), the front man, the broadcast bus sound tech, and the video tech all at once. So, sadly, a matrix mix fed by aux group sends is my only choice. I'm starting my journey tonight and will be adding at least one crowd mic, hopefully two so I can widen the stereo image in post.

Hello Ballast media, thanks for the series of videos about live streams. However I have please and that I would wish that you make a small video on live streaming with basic set up like analogue mixers with USB interface. I pray you'll. Thanks
@BallastMedia8 ай бұрын
With an analog mixer, I think the best you can do is an AUX mix. Use a pair of AUX outputs from your board as the stereo feed to your USB audio interface.

Is there a setting in KZbin Live for musicians? The "normal" settings seem to have an automatic volume control and changes the volume up and down with music (not so much with spoken word).
@BallastMedia8 ай бұрын
My experience has been (and I stand to be corrected as things change every day) that KZbin doesn't change the volume of a livestream while live. BUT, after the stream, yes, they do normalize the audio to -14LUFS.

QUESTION: Using the Soundcraft Si Espression 3 with a MADI-USB card. Using your videos, I was able to get all my channels to my computer for recording with some articles on how to use the MADI-USB soundcard. Only thing I can't figure out for the life of me is how to monitor the live mix from my computer. Do I have to designate an out on the board to monitor audio? But then I'm not monitoring the processed audio right? I'd like to at least monitor the audio through a headphone jack on my windows computer, but I can't seem to figure that out... PLEASE HELP!
@BallastMedia Жыл бұрын
Are you on a PC or Mac? If you're on a MAC the solution is an "Aggregate Device." But I'll assume you are on a PC. Reaper only likes to have one audio interface configured for audio input and output, so the easiest/cheapest solution will be to route the mixed audio back out the USB to the mixer and route that to an input channel. That will be the processed mix from Reaper. In Dante we can use additional devices on the Dante network to route our mix to, but unfortunately going with USB you're going to be kind of limited. There are some other hacks, you could use ReRoute (inserted as a hardware output on the master bus of Reaper) and then bring that into something else, like OBS on the same computer and monitor from there.

Look or sound? If you mean sound, check out the other vidoes in this series, I walk you through a bunch of great plugins for mixing audio. If you mean look, as in the picture, no plugins are going to help with that. Making your image look good comes down to #1 Lighting, and #2 proper camera setup.

I've been searching how to make my live stream better for 2 years and this video has never come up. WTH?
@brianlebrun2382 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately for me a second room for live mixes isn't possible. I mix from an SQ7 and the live stream is assigned to an aux send and I'm a team of one while also operating 5 cameras and 3 projectors. It's not easy but it's fun. My issue on the live stream is reverb feedback in the live stream. I assign one to FOH and a second to the stream's aux assigned solely to that aux but if I get that level too high in the stream it'll feedback without ever coming back through any speakers. Because I'm in a booth monitoring the stream has come down to using the PAFL on that aux and headphones into the board. Not exactly ideal. Any suggestions are more than welcome. You're videos rock.
@mtso1122 Жыл бұрын
You may need to create a separate mix with different volume level for streaming (separate aux from main mix)
@brianlebrun2382 Жыл бұрын
@@mtso1122 Thanks for the reply. My live stream mix is separate from the FOH mix. It's set up on one of the aux's. The acoustics in this room are a train wreck. 30 foot ceilings in an almost octagonal room with smooth walls but fortunately with that kind of reflection I can keep the FOH reverb down and with a room mic and a little reverb in the live stream I've been able to control it.

Do you have sound absorbing panels?
@brianlebrun2382 Жыл бұрын
@@mtso1122 no. It was an option that was going to cost over $10000 and the church I work at didn't want to spend the money.

Is it possible to made the panels by church 's volunteer? It's quite important if the paint or shape of the sanctuary has a lot of reflections that cause the feedback

The first audio in the beginning is with the two ladies singing and the choir isn't singing at all, which is what you want. The second audio is the singers AND the choir which makes it sound like a hall. All the echoing of the second one is something I DON'T want. I want to be plugged into the front of house to just get all the main mic outputs. I don't want the whole room and all that echoing. IMO but you're still the man Ballast and you taught me a lot. 💪🏾👍🏾
@baron1c11 ай бұрын
No…. Why have the choir at all then. The goal of live music is that it doesn’t sound like a bland studio recording. If I was to get sick, and cant go to church. Then I want the stream to give me everything that I would hear as if I was there. Not trying to say you are wrong, you are free to have your own preference, but I feel you are in the minority of listeners with that opinion.

To be honest the difference is not big at all both examples sounds really bad. I am sorry I do not want to be a ..... but take a listen to this, its an old Levin guitar that I recorded by using Quicktime and a super cheap big membrane USB condencer mic from Gear4music. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6mWpImpjJ6Dn6Msi=Hm6ryYtHgfu6mCNY I know it is not possible to compare the audio from a big concert hall with a small rom but you say one of these mixes is a digital mix so the possibilities should be pretty good to get a better low end and more body to the sound.
