I’d actually put Odette higher on the mindfulness scale. She isn’t hesitant to be with Siegfried just because she’s demure, she’s also thinking about how her choice will affect all the other swans. She can’t get carried away by her feelings because she has to be mindful about the curse. Then again I’ve also never seen a production where they put in the full prologue.
@Danny-pd9ybАй бұрын
Yes totally agree. What about Rothbart? The male antagonist in swan lake.
@juliadagnall5816Ай бұрын
@ Too much Dramatic Cape Swirling™️ to be demure. I’d put him pretty far down on the mindfulness scale as well because while he’s always scheming it never occurred to him that the whole Odile thing was definitely cheating and that stacking the deck like that could come back to bite him.

I LOVED this! I've been wanting a video where you break down characters' personalities and this was such a good way of doing so :)
@menteaperta2195Ай бұрын
Despite it seeming so dumb, the discussion was very interesting un terms of what consequences specific behaviours create. It would be great to watch a part 2 lf this, with more characters including especially the characters from Cranko and Macmillans ballets (like Onegin, Manon, Mayerling amd Taming of the shrew). I feel like the discussion would be so interesting, and I feel like you should absolutely dive deeper into the modern neoclassical ballet world. I know quite a lot about them, I've danced in most of them and researched as well, so I would be happy to help you out if you needed an introduction to them😁 Anyway, thank you for your videos, they really are exactly what the nerdy ballet world was missing ❤

I don't think Romeo is demure at all--he crashes a party where he knows he's not wanted, he sneaks into the Capulet garden to see Juliet, he marries her in secret. Juliet is even less demure!

Yea but I wouldn't put him at top demure. After all, the flashiest male variations are famous for being Basilio, Flames of Paris, Solor, Acteon and Corsaire. These are the absolute flashiest roles a male could think of somehow

I'd also propose to add Like Water For Chocolate: Tita, Gertrudis, Pedro, and Lead Revolutionary. I have mixed feeling about the music and the choreo but I love those very interesting characters a lot!!! I really like this video, you did a lot of creative effort! Very good ranking for Ali, he seems to be top of demure and mindful - definitely one of my favorite ballet characters of all time! Somehow I wish you would have also included more from other ballets, such like Nutcracker, LA Sylphide or Raymonda. But it's hard to choose, definitely (just wondering why so much The midsummer Night's dream). I think Medora could have been more mindful, she is my favorite ballet character and such a great "pirate's bride" (; And Odile, best bad girl of ballet (; So nice with all these pictures and clips!

I love the analysis but respectfully have to disagree with the Gamzatti defense 😂 She forced a man into marrying her by using her power as a princess and then publicly murdered the woman he was in love with by psychologically manipulating her into believing that he was still in love with her. Think characters in ballet are good or bad, is like black or white. Cause music describes them, and their situation. Drosselmeyer for example, is kind of crazy, extravagant but good. He gave a beatiful dream to her niece Clara. But demure or mindfull, not so sure. But Oded was both, she was so shy, but mindful of her sad situation.
@Satopi3104Ай бұрын
Kitri is less demure than swanhilda because she flirts with very manly men (bull fighters lol) and is sexy. Like she is an adult version of swanhilda.

@isabellalucia7820Ай бұрын
Good attempt to make ‘mindful’ mean something other than a pointless pop psychology phrase, but I wish you’d just gone with a ‘real’ word like niave, which it’s pretty much the definition you used. This is funny and beautifully argued, but why give a bad meme air time, even if it is going viral?

And nutcracker? It’s nutcracker season! The thing I feel like about paquita is that it has the best music, definitely the best one out of all ballets I knew of. However, I don’t really know much about the story/plot for paquita. I just love the many variations. The ballet with the best plot is probably coppelia I suppose, because the whole ballet is a fun scene and there is no tragedy. The nutcracker is the ballet which the plot does not follow the plot diagram. What do you think?
@meikochan94Ай бұрын
@Danny-pd9yb yes we need part 2 I love the plot of Giselle! About comic ballets my favourite is La fille mal gardee. Actually it's a long time that I haven't seen the nutcracker, but according my memories the second act is all full little exhibitions
