I have recently started ballet again after many decades. You offer many usable "inner game" tips here, which I recognise from other fields (drawing, painting, music and so on). Certainly, *progress over perfection* is a great attitude adjuster (and is a phrase I use a lot at work). Also, the idea that there is no such thing as an "easy" ballet class, an experienced dancer can always improve her technique even in a beginner class. This fits neatly with the idea of focusing on one or two things per class. Well I am still "finding my feet" but I plan to take this advice. Ballet has a reputation for being strict, austere and even punishing, which I think can be intimidating for many who wish to start. Certainly, a dancer in a ballet lesson is being "pushed" to improve, but I have met only warmth, encouragement and (when I inevitably screw up) forgiveness in class, both from the teacher and the other dancers. The short comments from the other dancers in your studio at the end of the video reflect this same deep understanding and accommodation that I have encountered. The real constraint is the discipline the dancer chooses to apply to herself, and -within sensible boundaries of health and safety- there are few external limits on this. I am looking forward to watching your other ballet videos. Thank you!

I love what you said about progress instead of perfection! Especially how it’s not linear. I used to teach a musical instrument and I had great teachers myself so I already know this, but I often forget when I’m learning anything that’s not music!!

It's hard to learn but when I'm feel unmotivated I like to remember that even 1 step forward is still progress.

Wow, I just came from an event at the National Ballet Of Canada in Toronto National Ballet Of Canada their Instudio program for recreational ballet for adults They have something called culture days and so it’s once a year and they offer a free beginner ballet class and also this year we had the honour of watching professional dancers rehearsal to Angels of Atlas. I got to sit in the front row at the Prima studio. I was not allowed to take photographs. The room was packed you walk in and you see all the professional dancers they’re just talking and then you see them to do a run through rehearsal and II literally saw Some of the Principal Dancers this was an unforgettable experience and you know the women like they’re they’re so tiny but they’re mighty and it was just and I was looking at their feet like they literally have perfect little feet I had tears in my eyes watching a certain scene I’ve never seen anything like that up close before I’ll never forget that experience and after that we had a beginner ballet class anyways ballet is quite something and there are days personally for me where I just don’t wanna go to class and take my adult ballet class because last Sunday was really hard and the class was really hot and I couldn’t keep up and I was tired and I felt discouraged so I don’t know if I wanna go this Sunday to be honest Ballet is very humbling and it’s kind of there’s a bit of attitude in ballet, but I don’t know. I’ll probably end up going on Sunday as long as your room isn’t very hot. Thank you for your video.🌸🩰

Ballet is 100% humbling. It always is and always will be. The beauty of ballet is in ita difficulty. On those tough days when things are overwhelming instead of trying to master everything pick one or two things to work on that day. Don't give up but it's also important to recognize when you need a rest day or a break 😊

Thats a great mindset to take into class. And ballet is a great way to move your body.
