The French Roll is beautiful, but how do girls with (much) longer hair do it? My girls do their ballet buns the same way you do (#2) -- works SO well with really long thick hair.

You should make a video where you talk about tips for male dancers! Or maybe you could even have a special guest to talk about that. I love your channel and I think you could really tap into a demographic that just doesn't get any attention on KZbin, or really in most media directed at dancers in general. I personally would love some advice on how to jump higher and tips for tours a la seconde, and on how to do a double tour en l'air cause I just cannot turn more than once. I hope that you'll consider my request! ❤️
@Kitefel
@Kitefel 3 жыл бұрын
@ma m That would be ideal, but not everyone has access to a male teacher. Men in dance are a minority, not just as dancers but also as dance teachers. Duh. Besides, a good ballet teacher should be qualified to teach all aspects of ballet. Duh. Most of the guest Male teachers I've had teach pointe classes, despite them not being expected to do pointe as men. A Female teacher should be able to prepare her male students for what they will be expected to do as male dancers. Duh

This is great, I wish I’d had guidance like these videos back when I was a dancer! Unfortunately my hair was always way too thick to do a French roll myself; I always loved the way it looked and wished I could do it. In Nutcracker I had to have it in a French roll for snow scene one year, which was a bit of a disaster. It required no fewer than three people, a LOT of water and gel, tons of bobby pins, and a great deal of muscle power to secure it. I’d always get a neck and headache from it. Eventually they changed the hairdo to a regular bun for the whole company in snow scene, as it became too arduous for all involved to get my hair done before each show. Lol.

You have such nice, long hair ;o It suits you! Is there anything that girls with much, much shorter hair can do? I'm not a dancer, however the hairstyles have always been some of my favourites and when I had my long hair it was easy to learn to do them, however now that I've cut off most of my hair, it's harder to find nice styles that dancers use.

These are gorgeous! In December after ballet had finished for the season I went to get my hair cut, but they cut way too much off! Now it's barely at my shoulders and even putting it into a normal bun is terrible! It used to be so long and I could do nearly any style. Do you think there's any chance you could do a video on how to put short hair into a bun? Or at least hairstyles that are suitable for ballet? That would be amazing! Lots of love, Beth xx
@justme9818
@justme9818 6 жыл бұрын
Bethany O'Connor hi Beth. Something like this might help...There was a style when I was in ballet school where: 1. the hair was parted down the middle and then 2. On one side you drew a line diagonally from the front of your ear to the top of the head. 3. this triangular portion of hair was put into a mini pony tail or plait on that side near the top of the head. For me, I tied mine really high as it accentuated my cheek bones and just generally suited my face shape. (You could pull the hair much tighter than for a regular bun and it was easy to keep neat.) 4. Repeat on the other side. 5. Collect the remaining hair into a pony tail at the back of the head (preferably high but in your case maybe a bit lower until your hair grows out) 6. Make a bun. 7. Arrange the mini pony tails around the main bun at the back of the head. OR Instead of making a bun. place the last pony tail at the back in a medium low position and then achieve Claudia's halo effect by twisting each pony tail and pinning it to meet the next, creating a circle at the back of the head. Maybe one of these will work, or maybe give you just enough inspiration to figure out something even better! Good luck!

Hi Beth as one of my friends from ballet has a bit longer than shoulder length hair I thought I could help you. I would recommend French plaiting or Dutch plaiting your hair and then pinning the ends of the plaits up to make a cute hairstyle hope this helps 😄.

I'm not a dancer, but I do horseriding, where all my hair has to fit under the helmet (I hate it when stray strands of hair stick out from under it). Since I have quite short hair as well (chin length), I really had to get creative. So, what I usually do is French Boxer plaits on both sides of the head and just pin them into a low bun in my neck. Obviously, this might be too low for a dancer, but you could try doing the bun a little higher... The result looks a bit like Claudia's Halo Style 😊

Hi Claudia!!! This question has nothing to do with this video but why do people step on their pointe shoe boxes? Like what are the benefits of doing that? Oh and darning your pointe shoes aswell?
@shiningmoon210
@shiningmoon210 6 жыл бұрын
Chapa Aviles when you step on yout box, it flattens it out. This is helpful for dancers with wider feet so their toes arents squished in their shoes. Darning can give your shoe more grip and stability, or at least that's what happens to mine 😂

What is your hair isn't long enough for a french roll, if this is what every female had to wear to class, my hair is barely past my shoulders and hard enough to put into a reasonable bun? Any suggestions, I would like to be able to wear my hair like this for job interviews, not as severe as a bun I look forward to your reply with eager, anticipation.

Looks like the Schwarzkopf Extra Care Strong Styling hairspray Same colour and shapes on the packaging. Also just this video already has 174 comments, combined with her newer videos is thousands of comments. She can't answer all of them unfortunately. I'd say get a no-poo type hair-washing solution (basically shampoo without a soapy ingredient, it's different from a soap free washing emulsion since that can still contain very stripping ingredients) and just rinse your hair and clean it with that once (or in the beginning twice) a week. You can also just wet your hair when you're in the shower and only use conditioner or co-wash, and only truly wash it once a week. I've even heard of people only washing it once a month using this method. Try looking for shampoos and conditioners that do not contain sulfates or silicones. If your shampoo does have sulfates, make sure it's SLES and not SLS. Shampoos and conditioners without those won't make your hair as heavy and also won't irritate your scalp as much, making it less oily (for most people that's the case. Some people just have really oily scalps so there's really nothing you can do about that) and easier to handle/less frizzy. Always make sure to use kinds that cater to your needs, and remember that split ends will only be solved by getting a hair cut. With hair spray and stuff like that, try to find brands that don't weigh down your hair too much or make it crunchy, and that can be brushed out. This is of course mostly due to the products, but your hair type and colour also play a role. The Schwarzkopf spray she's using in the video is a good example of something that can be brushed out and isn't too crunchy, and Elnett is a good choice as well. Also rinsing your hair (so not truly washing it) a few times a week either without the aid of products at all or with the products mentioned above can help a ton for feeling clean and healthy and avoiding too much build-up. On days where you do not want to get your hair wet you can either wear your hair in a bun the entire day, or use a dry shampoo. Look for a dry shampoo that fits your hair colour and apply sparingly, or apply royally and use a hairdryer to blow out excess product. You can also apply it very royally before bed and blow the excess out with a hairdryer in the morning. Silicone and sulfate free products are getting more and more popular so drugstore version are slowly starting to pop up, although they will still be more expensive than conventional shampoos and conditioners. I personally use Nature Box cold pressed avocado shampoo and conditioner for my dry and brittle hair, a maximum of twice a week, with Schwarzkopf dry shampoo or my local drugstore's home brand dry shampoo for blondes in between washes if necessary. If I wear my hair in a bun with the aid of hairspray I forgo the dry shampoo.

Thumbs-up for the ideas, hon! I'd love to have you do my hair- it is past mah bum cheeks! :'D In class i twist it into a horridly lopsided ugly bun that does not lie flat because let's face it it'd 38 inches of thick hair... yeah, the halo looks the most comfy, would feel GREAT on my 39 year-old neck lol! give some balanced weight to my head, instead of weighted funny!

Hi Claudia! I enjoy your vids so much! I'm a new ballet dancer and I have a question. How many years do I need to practise to wear pointe shoes? Thanks for your time!

I’m a dancer, but I have short hair and bangs, which was a mistake on my behalf, but I’m currently looking for a way to wear my hair because it barely fits in a ponytail???

lol I had to keep rewinding the clip as I couldn't figure out how you got the fold over from a banded french roll, then I saw that it wasn't actually banded, just held, (ok, so I'm a dumb natural blonde, - dyed brown, 56 year old,) I love watching your clips, and am planning on doing ballet as a fitness thing, as I did ballroom, latin and new Vogue dancing from age 6 til mid 20's, started doing ballet at one stage, but as i have flat feet, weak ankles causing roll over my teacher gave up on me and my mother withdrew me, I'm sure that
