To whoever made the Japanese subtitles, thank you so so much!
Hey, I'm back! Sorry this vid took so long. I've been working on it for a solid month, and I didn't feel comfortable releasing it knowing I didn't do the best job I could. There's a lot of research that goes into it. Dodging copyright is harder than breaking into Area 51. It's also hard to analyze something I'm not familiar with. But anyways, it's out now, and that's all that matters. I hope you guys enjoy it and learn from it. As always, thanks for watching!

FAQ's
1. "How old are you?"
A: 18
2. "Can you analyze _____?"
A: I get this a lot, especially for BTS. Unfortunately, it's most likely I will not analyze anyone outside of NCT. I am an Nctzen only, and the reason I can make these videos is because I'm highly invested in NCT. I've watched hours of their content, and I'm familiar with the way they move. I just don't have the knowledge or the interest to do other people. But it's possible I could do other groups if I am interested enough.
3. Why are all your ballet clips from Russian ballet?
A: There are a variety of reasons, one being copyright. Companies like the Royal Ballet are super strict on copyright (I know from experience). I also like to use Vaganova because (1) I'm a fan, and (2) they're the only school that posts their exams online.
4. "When is the next video coming out?"
A: Whenever it does. I don't have a fixed schedule.
5. Can you slow down? The words go by too fast.
A: I definitely take into consideration the length of time that is needed to read the text, but I have limitations. I edit according to the music and the length of the clips I have. It's a very painstaking process, and sometimes the words don't appear for as long as I would like them to.
6. Do you do any other genres of dance besides ballet.
A: No, I only do ballet. The opinions expressed in my videos come from my discipline (ballet), and may differ from dancers in other genres.
Disclaimer: I am not teacher or a pedagogue; I am merely a student. Therefore, I do not have complete knowledge of a particular methodology, and opinions expressed in these videos may be inaccurate or incorrect. Please consider my analysis with some caution.

A note on the technical aspects of the video: When it comes to ballet, it is best to push from the heels rather than the balls of the feet. Part of this is to preserve turnout, which is at the core of the mechanics of ballet. This doesn’t matter so much for Yuta because he doesn’t use turnout. There are also things he does that aren’t healthy in the long run, so if you want to implement some of the points outlined in the video into your own dancing, I advise you to be _very_ careful. That being said, I’m no pedagogue, so please take what I say with a grain of salt. Also, ballon is more complicated than what described in the video. I described the visual illusion, but I didn't explain the mechanics behind a proper jump. True ballon can only be achieved with ballet technique because it is assumed that the dancer is turned out and placed correctly (which Yuta is not). This changes how one can use the body. Good height and a speedy, coordinated takeoff are also necessary and just as important as that visual illusion.

If you watch the rurouni kenshin actor doing his stunt training with the katana quick draw, you'd see similar things, explosive bursts of agile footwork paired with incredibly fast intricate sparring rhythm AND absolutely delicate but deft hands and fingers handling the sword (they timed in slow motion on a variety show to be able to see it, 0.5 seconds) and ladies too. (BTW Takeru looks incredibly so similar that Yuta could be his younger brother)

Confirmed. Yuta clearly has the “it factor” - with an athletic build and handsome face added onto a strong stage presence that attracts your eyes to follow his movements even through the crowd. Although you’ve pointed out how powerful yet graceful Yuta’s dance is, he seems to get stuck dancing at the very back of the 9-member group where he can barely be seen, standing off the stage completely while others dance, or dancing so far to one side of the group and/or out of camera range that he may as well be off the stage. When you add his pretty singing voice and the fact that he is visually stunning without a single bad camera angle, it seems he should be consistently assigned more prominent front/center roles in the group’s stage performances and MVs based on earned merit. This inexplicable lack of value being given to Yuta’s strong visuals, dancing, and singing talent has been a lingering curiosity among fans, with questions remaining if perhaps there is substance to SM’s history of lawsuits for ethnic discrimination against non-Korean group members?
@shravantibharali9638
@shravantibharali9638 3 жыл бұрын
Yes You are right. SM has always been notorious for discriminating foreign members. They do debut them but only to market the fanbase of that particular country. SM knows that Yuta has every potential to be the front center but they purposefully keep him in the back so that their Korean members get the spotlight. I am not hating on any of the Korean members of NCT but that's the truth. EXO's foreign members had suffered the same discrimination. That's the reason, all of them left SM and EXO.

@@daylight1nsomniac536 Bravo for your optimism. But this many years into the group's history and despite all of the pleading comments from fans (especially those written under Yuta's White cover), it seems SM is unlikely to change direction. It is doubtful that Yuta will ever be given the focus and opportunities he deserves until his contract expires and he signs with another company who won't waste his talents.
@Anika24
@Anika24 3 жыл бұрын
And that's why we need the Japanese sub-unit, whether he remains in 127 or not. I know it'd be sad if he had to leave his long-time friends to re-debut five years later, with some young people he barely knows. But he can't stay in the back forever just to be with his friends! His career needs to evoluate, one day. So either he becomes the leader and main dancer of NCT Japan, or... He leaves the company. Knowing how huge he is in his home country, it wouldn't be a problem for him to have a new start there. I'd be sad if he left the group, but we gotta think of what's best for him, too.
@sc9376

I have to agree with many of the comments...it took forever for Kun to get any recognition it seems until WayV. It was obvious when he was on a program where the members had to jump up & dance in the songs they were a part of for NCT & Kun could only participate in ONE dance out of all the songs that were played. Then there’s Yuta who sings great & is an awesome dancer...& now it’s as if it’s happening with Shotaro. He & Sungchan debuted at the same time it seems...but Shotaro was first & while I see Sungchan everywhere (photo shoots, Inkygayo, etc), where is Shotaro? Hopefully he’ll be a part of the new NCT Japan sub-unit & that’s why we don’t see him as much...because he’s busy with that. But if not, I can see why so many fans write so many disparaging remarks about SM! 😒😓🤨😠

Also, as a former soccer player myself, Yuta’s methods definitely reflect that of someone who played. We run on the balls of our feet and are taught to be on our toes from before the first whistle blows. And the reason why his hands/arms don’t seem to have the same strength as his legs is probably because in soccer the only real use of your arms is for running. They’re seen as secondary. They only serve to help us move: by going faster and for balancing. Probably how he knew intuitively to use them to help him jump. You may think soccer practice revolves around a ball, but we actually do a lot of training that just involves technique and how to use our body properly, which seems like it would transfer into dancing. We have a thing called B.O.B. (body over ball) which reminds me of how you said he’s always ready to spring forward-because we are leaning over the ball, ready to sprint with all our power, while using technique and control to keep possession of the ball, in order to beat our opponents. Thank you for making series and this video. It combines my love of soccer with a new interest in dancing that you have sparked. I’m not physically able to play soccer anymore-and that breaks my heart-but you’ve given me hope that someday I can find a new home in dancing. :)
@ninazampetti789
@ninazampetti789 4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you about the soccer training!! (esp the use of arms to gather power) However, it's also important to take into account Yuta's only dance training is heavily *heavily* hip-hop centered and you are actually taught to very rarely step down on your heels as well in order to be able to move faster. That, combined with his soccer training, is the best guess reason why he's so light on his feet and so balanced on his toes

Yup its almost like a volleyball player, but the thing I noticed when he jumps in his part on Black on Black, he uses his two feet to jump , meanwhile a player uses both of their feet but not on the same time to build the elevation of their jump, and that also includes the force coming from the upper body, the floating in the air and hang time will be helpful? for the players to differentiate their attacks. The thing is Yuta is a football player which requires a lot of work on his legs and foot. I don't know if youll understand, Im just trying to analyze both

honestly though, soccer players generally are fairly muscular (in particular in the core and legs) even if you aren't trying to become muscular, as well as very agile, just because of how many hours and years spent at practices where you're constantly doing drills that usually require a good amount of leg and core muscles. to me, as a person who has played at rec/very very low competitive levels all my life, I do not find it at all surprising that he has that sort of strength :)

I haven't finished the whole video yet, but I found the point you made about him always being on the balls of his feet really interesting. I played soccer for a little while before doing almost a decade of softball, and that is something you're taught in most sports. When you're on the balls of your feet you're able to react quicker to things happening, like someone trying to juke around you (soccer like Yuta) or a ball being hit right next to you (softball like me). Coaches never wanted you to be flatfooted because you would never be able to react in time to anything. Whenever anyone tells me to get ready for anything remotely athletic, now about four years removed from sports, I still automatically and subconsciously get on the balls of my feet, and I assume this is the same for Yuta. Being on the balls of his feet is his natural "ready" position.

As a person who’s been playing soccer for 7 going on 8 years now and also dances in theatre- I was trained to run on the balls of my feet because I would be able to sprint faster and sharply change direction without falling. It’s something that also happens when I dance, whereas my friend who has never played sports doesn’t have the same technique as I do and they are less stable, they tend to fall or trip often. Also by running on the balls of my feet and conserving my energy well, I’m able to outrun taller opponents easily and I stay in the game most of the time because I am needed and I don’t easily become tired. Hope my long explanation helps possibly explain why Yuta dances on the balls of his feet! 😂🙂

This is totally unrelated to kpop but, speaking as a junior 3D character animator, your commentary was extremely interesting to listen to. The way you explain movement, and especially that whole segment about how Yuta and ballet dancers achieve that "floating effect" was eye-opening. I don't think people understand the amount of knowledge of the human body and movement that is needed to make fluid, realistic looking recreations of the most basic of actions (running, jumping, lifting something, etc.), not to mention the amount of time it takes to make even 1 second worth of animation, tweaking every single articulation of the body to achieve the perfect effect. I'll definitely be thinking of what I learned here in my next project. Thank you from a fellow NCTzen :3

Finally someone talks about Yuta as a main dancer of NCT. Most people immediately turn to Ten or Taeyong, but Yuta is a very strong dancer as well. In an interview he said he would never want to lose his dancing ability, even rather his singing ability. I recognize the jumping part and "standing on the balls of your feet" part as well. I play volleyball and we're constantly reminded to float in the air and stay on the front of our feet to be more stable and to be able to change direction quickly. It's probably the foundation for any sport, including dancing.

yutazens are forever indebted to you for the series deep dive into his techniques and why he's so fascinating and captivating as a performer. one of my happiest moments was seeing him do a special stage with mark and eunhyuk at smtown tokyo,, as it felt like yuta was finally getting the acknowledgement of his skills as a main dancer of nct 127. he's honestly such a joy to watch as you'd never know what to expect from him, but moreso because you really feel his passion for performing with every step. on another note, i really appreciated seeing the side by side comparisons to see how uniquely the members dance!! when boom was released, people compiled individual fancams of the dreamies and it amazed me how differently they did the same moves!! makes me realise why some dancing styles attract different people, though they are all obviously amazing dancers.

I watched all your 3 videos about analyzing Yuta, Haechan and WinWin's dances. And the most emotional thing about your vids is that you talked about not only skilled but also how feeling they (may I call them artist) are. You checked in more details to the artists: their backgrounds, tendencies... Furthermore, you tried your best to explain what you knew as a pro in the simple way for amateur audiences. I can feel how much effort you put in making those vids. Finally, I really appreciate your work. Can't wait to enjoy the next vid from series of NCT. Respect!!!

I am just an occasional dancer and not a professional dancer, but can I say that the way he dance, the energy, sometimes it reminds me to the way Taemin SHINee dance. Jumps really surprise because of how they look so flawless and light and i don’t know how to do the jumps but I’ve always had this one idea of how it seems like they’re floating and that’s exactly what you mentioned, how they keep bringing their legs closer to give the illusion. I love how you compare and contrast the movements of the NCT members with examples of other dancers, but not going too fast and explaining in a great way on what the differences are. I also love how you explain everything in a clear and concise way. But what I love most about these videos is your enthusiasm and love for both dancing and the members, and it's just so effervescent and enjoyable. I didn't even realize that 15 minutes had gone by until you had started to wrap it up and I was like "wait, it's over?" There's so many things I never realized I didn't notice about the way each member dances, but once you point it out, it seems so obvious and I probably will notice it in future dance practices. Thank you for uploading this wholesome and informative series, I look forward to whoever next you have planned!

Wow, once again I am floored by this analysis. When I saw the notification popped out I was surprised to see that it is Yuta, bc I had never expected him to come next. As a former athlete myself, what you said about using the balls of your feet to preserve momentum of moving forward while reducing mass (technically) and making explosive attacks is true. I was a sprinter, hurdler and high jumper. In which, between those three, hurdling is the trickiest (at least for me) bc you are required to have high agility and stamina in order to jump and quickly regain yourself to sprint and jump again. The trick of using balls of our feet is very important, like you said, as it eases the body and the legs to quickly sprint and jump again. Plus, I was taught to sprint with the balls of our feet bc the body is forward, the center of gravity is lower thus making the sprint quicker. That is the key to athletes. Another good point that you made that I must mention is how Yuta made a small jump before he 'flies', that was a trick I used as a high jumper. I made a small jump before sprinting towards the pole and at some distance, exerts the full jump, all the while only using the balls of my feet. My coach emphasized on using the balls, that at one point I walk using the balls everywhere when the competition was nearing. I don't participate in sports anymore, but the muscle memory was trained, so whenever I do a quick jump, climb up the stairs or jogging, I will only use the balls. I am so impressed by this analysis bc it gave me goosebumps at some parts, and those parts are when you mentioned the benefits of using the balls of his feet. It really gave me a new light on Yuta, bc I have always noticed he is a little contrained in his moves but they are explosive and feral, at the same time languid in ways I could not explain. When you pointed out the sensitivity he had (how his fingers are soft) that made my head cleared up. He is indeed an impressive dancer. Great work, and thank you for sharing this!! ❤

The point about Yuta "bringing over" some things from playing football over to dance, is something that has happened to me, just the other way around (but with handball). it's honestly kind of interesting to think about how we get so used to one way of moving that we just keep doing it outside of where it's needed

I gotta admit that I first clicked because I've been wanting to see a video analysis of yuta's dancing for a long time now, but as the video finished I couldn't discern if I was crying because of how much I admire yuta and how awesome he is or by the way that your words hit me! Your speech is just amazing and it left me in awe. I've been a dancer since very little and I'm so fond in it that I want to dedicate my whole life to dancing. Sadly I have almost zero chances of becoming succesful in this area if I don't leave my country (here the arts aren't really appreciated). It's really amazing, you are such a good teacher! What really resonated with me about Yuta is what you said in the beginning, that he focuses his energy and movement inwards and kind of towards the floor. When watching the latest TY freestyle dance video, i was wondering why Yuta's movements in particular were so mesmerizing and interesting to look at, and now I know it's exactly that "animalistic" movement which comes across as a little dangerous and so cool....wow. i know this was made a long time ago, but i just wanted to put my in put on this as someone who plays soccer and runs xc and track. in general cleats kind of force you to run on the balls of your toes, especially when pushing off for a shot or kick. also it can depend if he’s had past running training, and just how his center of gravity is. a lot of runners are trained to run on the balls of their feet because it’s better for you and you get more speed and momentum. soccer players are also all trained in athletic stance, which requires you to have a low base and to be on your toes, with shoulders square to your knees and your hips open. this could impact his dancing, but then again some people just naturally walk like that. on his forward meaning “aggressive” nature soccer players are trained to lean forward when their shooting to minimize chances of the ball going up and over.

just an observation but yuta also has some qualities that would be really good in a tap dancer (i take ballet, tap and jazz) particularly the whole staying on the balls of your feet thing. in tap it is important to keep your knees bent and heels off the floor, so as not to damage your achilles', whilst keeping a stable upper body AND relaxed limbs, or itd be near impossible to do things like brush hops or double shuffles, and i have noticed him doing all of these things. tap can also be an 'explosive' style, needing a lot of energy to keep going. this isnt really that relevant but i just thought i would point it out lol

yuta dancing on the balls of his feet is definitely an athlete thing i don’t play soccer, i play volleyball but for us when we receive we’ve got a lower base and are on the balls of our feet so we move forward easier and quicker and are lighter on our feet this is a typical athletic stance

From what I see people mostly say Mina's dancing doesn't exude much energy and that's because of her facial expression and not her body movements. I'm not a hardcore Once, but I know Mina's dancing is very "fluent" if that makes sense. Tzuyu, on the other hand, is the member that I've seen people call stiff mostly. I'm no professional dancer or anything, but I love watching people dance, but Tzuyu does the movements so on point that I don't see her enjoying her own dancing. This is just my theory: the constrained-ness element is mutual between them, for Mina in her facial expression and Tzuyu in her movements. That's why they look "stiff" to those people. I absolutely adore them both, regardless.

True. But She has an 11 years doing ballet but I don't see the grace, the expression when she dances. It feels like she just trained for months

I mean she's kinda stiff. Watch her Yes or Yes fancam. Although training as a ballet dancer gives her good balance and technique. Her facials come and go. I'm expecting her to have good expression.

The way he runs, i can tell he was an athlete. That running pattern is not built overnight. That running pattern takes years of training and of course consume hours of daily training. Our Yuta is blessed by athletic body.

I totally agree with you about Yuta. as you were explaining about his dance methods I was just two seconds ahead of saying the exact same words as you! Powerful! explosive! delicate! graceful! such a combination! and his jumps in Black on Black are really so incredible. I took ballet for 5 years. I have a basic knowledge of body position in space and tend to dance on the balls of my feet with knees bent too. My friends always say I am a god dancer. I'm like Taeyong, I watch and duplicate what I see with my own flair of movement and musicality. Yuta is just amazing to watch! I am so happy I found this video! I just watched Haechan and Taeyong videos just now. The way they move and dance such professionals! The way they make the moves look effortless and easy. You know that they are really hard! They must practice in their sleep! The fact that they sing at the same time just amazes me! I hope you would like to do more of these videos!! Thank you!

ok you REALLY moved me in the end... I had the chance to see NCT127's concert in Paris and I remember very distinctly being super impressed by and drawn to Yuta's performance, even though he might not always be the one I would tend to stare at usually, I even wrote in my journal about his dancing and extremely positive energy. and I think it may be what you describe, his amazing almost inhuman technique paired to his sensitivity, that left that impression on me. as you said, it's no longer just a series of movement but sharing feelings and dreams. THEN YOU SHOWED IMAGES OF THAT CONCERT and I may have let out a ridiculous squeal of joy
