Ballet: Trying on Freed & Suffolk Pointe Shoes - Robbie age 12 Fitting

The Freeds did not work for me but I really like the Suffolk. Took home the Solo Light and tomorrow having the Solo Prequel brought down from Dancer's Choice to see which I like best! As you now know the Russian Pointes weren't the best shoe for me - at least for now. Feet change apparently !

Thanks! Ouch pouch originals and I do use toe spacers, at least on one foot all the time. They help distribute the weight across your toes and take pressure off big toe.

You know what? I have to admit,you have made soooo many videos and only like 6 of them are pointe shoe fittings.I have watched ALL pointe shoe fittings and you look BEAUTIFUL in ALL of the shoes you try on!!! You're a GREAT dancer!!!!!

forgive my ignorance, but it looks to me like, in all the trying-on-shoes videos, that the right heel gives trouble in the fit. Do they sell shoes in different sizes per foot? because it seems like that might be a thing. Everyone has one foot bigger than the other....

the vamp is the front of the box that goes up the front of your foot. Short toes should get a short vamp usually but if you have a really high arch you may need a longer vamp to keep you from going over too far. If my vamp is too long it is harder for me to get over.

just goes top show how different every dancer is, my first pair of pointe shoes were sufolk solo and i actually went to the sufolk workshop to get fitted and they didnt last long at all for me i was not keen one bit and i actually i prefer grishko and they fit me a lot better and feel more comfortable :)

suffolks didnt really work for me, but so far, my freed's are absolutely perfect for me!!! good luck with your suffolks, whichever ones you choose!!

@KennyPooBear Usually we go to grace at dancers choice but no days off to drive up there right now but thanks for the tip escondido is closer! I just got the prequels from graces shop brought down so we will see how they compare to basic solo for her. Will check out KC next time! Thanks!

My feet are really narrow and extremely compress-able, so the Russian Pointe's work the best for me. I used to have the Freed's, but they were too wide and even if my foot fit inside it initially, since my feet compress, I would slide through. So after a bunch of fittings and brands, I finally tried on the Russian Pointe's and they were a huge improvement over the Freed's. Anyways, wish you luck on finding the perfect shoe and on your ballet training! :)

Robbie I just want to say your amazing I love your videos and you are so talented, anywho I'm surprised that the freeds didn't work for you but the suffolks did because suffolk was started by a man who used to be a freed of london makes. Also one last thing you need to pull up into your knees more your legs were slightly bent there is a muscle(not the quads but another one) that is above the knee and this must contract good luck your doing very well Sincerely, Alec (cpyb student)

@mydancetv Yeah, this is my third year as a soldier because I'm short, too! Ha ha I'm just glad I'm not an angel again. And I'd try them on if I were you because you can wear brand new ones right before a performance and dance just fine in them, which I really like. But if you do get them, order the suede tips because they won't wear out on the tips!

@TheChaiTeaLatte the first pair all that wiggling was on purpose to get a feel for the top of that box - which didn't like and was hard to get over ;) but if you saw it after that then yes for sure and hey more strength never hurts anyway so more releves it is! haha ;) I was hoping freeds would work had heard a lot of good stuff but did not like at all!! Hard to get over for me! Box hard.

Robbie, have you considered trying Gaynors? That's what I wear and they last forever, are comfortable, and they really help your arches look a lot bigger. I think your feet would look really nice in them. And congrats on making Clara! I'm a maid in the party scene, a solider (bleh, but it's better than nothing), a snowflake, one of the two Chinese girls, and a flower. :)

I'm like a 7 or 7.5 in street and I wear a 5.5 or 6 xxxn suffolk, actually the 5.5 is too small now. But for you I think 5.5 might fit. Width depends.

You're from the philippines? My grandpa used to teach ballet in philipppines before he passed away. I absolutely love dancing ballet..it runs in the family I guess. Haha. Anyway, you are still young so you can start ballet. Actually you can start at any age. Most start really young if they want to pursue a professional career in ballet. But again you can start at any age. Also you dont have to be super flexible to start ballet, that can be improved over time. Hope you will be able to start. :)

My feet are really wide I wear xxxn they are about 2 sizes smaller than my street shoe I wear 7 and 7.5 and they are 5.5 you need to go somewhere to try them on or order several options and send the ones back that dont fit.

@smartballerina some people have suggested them including the ballerina I take pilates from sometimes and privates. Thanks on clara thing and I am same way about soldier and I had to do it 2 years because I was so short LOL not a happy camper haha it can be fun though. ;)

Instead of going to discount dance you can get a REALLY nice fit of pointe shoes from a store in escondido called "KC Dance Gear" i love it there!!! try going there. seriouesly!!! you have to schedual a pointe shoes fitting.. its worth it

I have Suffolk Solos and I have good arches, a strong foot, as a wide foot. So I guess Suffolks are good for me. I didn't look good in Freeds either

@mydancetv try gaynors, you can get a custom pair!!!!! im learning pointe (like you) and i couldnt find 'the shoe' and i killed all the nearly good shoes i got really quickly, so i got gaynors and they fit perfectly!!!!!! and you dont have to break them in and they dont weaken!!!!!!

You might be almost done growing. my friend is 12 and she is 5'3" I think. PNB and nycb take tall dancers and up to 5'6 or 5'7 might be okay I really don't know. There are a few dancers 5'9 and 5'10 with big companies. I'm sure it is fine but I think avg is 5'4"- 5'6" maybe. I wouldn't worry about it =)

@GotTutus2011 I heard freed go dead in like 2 weeks for someone my level. kind of a performance shoe like you put it on wear it it's dead. But supposedly molds to your foot after one use - I was hoping they would fit had heard good things but they felt WEIRD!

@mydancetv Dani likes the Suffolk Solos--they take a little longer to break in than the Mirellas but have bette support and hopefully last longer than the Mirellas. Mirellas die so quickly!

Are freeds very hard? I usually use grishko medium shank pro 2007 and those work well for me, but they must be broken in a lot. I have russians right now and they are way too hard, even after a month of classes. I was wondering about freeds, but the shape of grishkos suit me nicely..

How long did they last you, since they were the light? I have fairly low arches, so I thought that I might be able to get over the box with more ease in a light, but I don't want to sacrifice longevity because Suffolk pointe shoes are pretty expensive compared to other pointe shoes.
