I feel like Xavi and Iniesta deserve just one in their lifetime. Also, Neuer achieved pretty much what a player could think of: a treble and a World Cup - for me, he's not Yashin or maybe even Casillas/Buffon were better shot stoppers, but he invited something that modern goalkeepers are just treating as a new standard. The rest? Ribery and Sneijder would be fair once as well, but apart from that Messi and Ronaldo deserve to hold that record and I wish they were tied with those awards. I'm not going to remember CR7 or Messi, but rather the fact their rivalry was so intense that they were both the best at the opposite sides. Each gave football something unforgetable and special and one would not be so great without the other one.

I think if they’re gonna keep giving the awards to specific players they should at least deep dive into some metrics. Like figuring out who’s more efficient and effective. There could’ve been some seasons where CR or LM finished 2nd to 1 another for having less goals but they could’ve taken far less shots or hit more difficult ones....or perhaps 1 year they won it when someone else was a more effective/ valuable player to their club. Just something to consider.

I just know that if Liverpool would have won either the Premier League or the Champions League in 2008 then Fernando Torres would have won the Ballon D’Or since he had an amazing 30+ goals season and he won the Euro 2008 with Spain scoring an amazing goal for the win in the final versus Germany. The fact is that Fernando Torres had a 2008 season that was just as good as the ones Ronaldo and Messi had, the only difference between them was that Liverpool didn’t win any titles that year and Manchester United and Barcelona did win titles and sadly that is what cost Torres not getting the 2008 Ballon D’Or.

I can’t believe I’m here still hearing the argument that Luka Modrić didn’t deserve the Ballon D’Or in 2018. He won practically every award that year which said so, and he was absolutely deserving of it. It is people like you who allow Messi and Ronaldo to win the award for 10 straight years even when they were undeserving of it. I definitely don’t think Modrić is a better player than those two in general, but he arguably edged them out in 2018 by doing so well with Madrid and Croatia, when neither of them showed up for the World Cup. Also, if you’re trying to run a KZbin channel that presents factual information to your viewers, even if it’s hypothetical, it would be misleading and outright incorrect to make statements like “Modrić wasn’t the best in the world” just because you don’t believe he was. Furthermore, you don’t need to repeat yourself every single time you list a player as being the best “if Messi and Ronaldo weren’t around”, we get it, that’s the point of the video. This could easily be a 3 minute google search instead of a 15 minute repeat-fest.
