Awesome bit of finest British engineering made without the aid of computers! Fine work!😀😀😀

Was expecting to see a banker, which pretty standard for a train of this length back in steam days. Great effort by the driver and fireman (and Scots Guardsman!)
@balmesh7 жыл бұрын
Never seen a banker in 2017, I think the locos are in much better condition and the crews are well motivated!

Super stuff Alan, and that stunning opening shot of the exhaust above the road was a stroke of genius. A very enjoyable watch. Thanks for going all the way up there and sharing it with us. Kind regards Frank.

Thanks Frank. Driving up the M6/M74 in driving rain made one think about whether it was worth it, but the rain stopped and it was great!

Brilliant.....what a superb loco.....what is it though with Carnforth’s engines?, always the leaking cylinder!
@balmesh6 жыл бұрын
Don't ask me! It can't be beyond their competence, must be lack of time?

1:10 ... she'll be coming round the mountain, when she comes... That bit of motorway is a pretty good workout even for a small engined car, so I can only imagine how hard a steam engine must find it following similar contours...
@balmesh6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. In the old days of steam, any reasonable length of train was given a banker to help it up.

This one doesn't look like it needs it ;)

Superb shots Alan. Loved the opening clip with the smoke appearing over the road. That was fantastic. Kind regards C&A

Thank you, both. It was a wonderful view up there. Nine of us and nobody in anybody's way

Excellent shot Alan , what a climb from 46115 with Beattock making her cough nicely . Glad you and Jane managed to find all the locations yesterday mate .

Thanks to you, Steve - the directions were perfect! We are already talking of next time - and there's the double-fifty event in October. . .

In answer to the double chimney question they were built by the fowler design with parr ell boiler with a single chimney . Rebuilt by Stanier into what we see today

Thanks for that.

Cracking shot Allan....Nice that You have so many more Steam movements now than You ever did in West Wales....Steve.-:)
@balmesh7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve. True, it's immeasurably better than Carmarthen. Scenery is better, too.
@acw710007 жыл бұрын
Good shot Alan, Beattock certainly slowed her down a bit but a good effort from an engine close to the end of her ticket. From your angle there didn't seem to be much coal left in the tender
@balmesh7 жыл бұрын
Agreed. A very good effort. Didn't notice the coal but at the Beattock Summit stop they were shovelling it on! Black smoke covered the whole landscape.
