The battle for the Balobedu throne has taken another turn, as some members of the royal family plan to crown Princess Masalanabo as Queen Modjadji in April next year. This is despite this past weekend's installation of her brother Prince Lekukela Modjadji as king-elect by the Modjadji Royal Council under the leadership of the regent, Bakhoma Mpapatla Modjadji. Last year, the council announced its decision to install a male heir to the throne that had been occupied by queens for the past two centuries.

Masalanabo in Ikalanga means "You remained with them (under your care or custody)." This name connects the Mudjadji with the Kalanga Nation.

I believe that the Rain Queen has been around for thousands of years, even before the days of Monomatapa. May the Queen be blessed forever and a day.

AmaJaji in KZN are called Mncwango and amaNgcwangu in Eastern Cape. Balobedu are called Mbedwini or Mbedu as in Thuso Mbedu. It is also Dube or Ndobe or Qwabe or Gcwabe or Mncwabe or Mgabhi or Mugabe or Macambi. They are called amaNdwandwe and their cousins, abakaZwangendaba Mncwango live in Tanzania-Zambia and Malawi and are called Maseko-Ngoni. All call themselves AmaNgwe/Ngweni or Zwane. Nsele, Linda, Mkhonto (Mokoto = Shabalala or Tshabalala or Nxamalala or Ngxabalala). Definitely Nguni.

Historically the rain making has always been led by females. There was however a clear separation of powers and functions between the state led by Mambo and religion functions led by the chief chief Mwali Priestess.

The feminist movement think we don't like our history and we are likely to accept the ANC gender equality nonsense. The nation was led by kings for hundreds of years. These woman are too slow.

It's simple before we had Queens on the throne Kings used to rule so this is not a unique situation but most importantly Princess Masalanabo's father is his not from the royal family that's she will never assign to the throne

The idea that because the nation was led by a woman means it must never be led by a man is very toxic and foolish. It seems to me that these people have a selective memory or just to slow to fathom history of a people beyond two hundred years, the nation was led by a kings before that. Finally, this looks like the issue faced by the Zulu nation where the court had to decide, like with the Zulu nation, here the judge has decided that the prince will lead the nation. The feminist movement can go to sleep now, the nation has a king.
