Balsa Wood Bridge Load Test - Warren Truss

Engineering mechanics coursework for MEng mechanical engineering first year at Sussex Uni, truss design, watch at half speed for a slo mo effect.
edges were cut, and filed to fit snugly together, wood glue was used to bond the "beams" together.
Each mass is approx 1kg (carrier too), span was approx 30cm, total it held was 10kg+

Good video, and great break to analyse - joint failure. BUT everyone needs to know this is NOT a warren truss. it is a PRATT or N triuss. Warren has an A shape to the members.

When I was in high school we learned the trick was to coat the whole thing in gorilla glue. Didn't win the weight efficiency competition. But we were close and held 3 times as much weight as the next best.

How much weight did it withstand and what type of materials did you used?

A little over 100N (roughly 11Kg of mass added), and balsa wood with small 'lashings' or knots tied around the main vertices of the truss.

+Diana Gonzalez a special wood glue, any hard ware shop will stock it

I just looked it up, it's uhu multi purpose adhesive was used. It sets solid in about an hour, but only fully after about 48 hours
