Is a BAM case really worth the cost? Or are they all just "style over substance," as Paul Hollywood would say? With Bam cases I find the airtight seal causes moisture to wick onto my instrument if I am traveling in between areas of different humidity/temperature. When I open the case, sometime I see a layer of "sweat" on my instrument and that's not good. I ended up going for a StringKing trinity case.

Ooh that's so interesting! I've never had that problem before, but thank you for mentioning the airtight seal! That's something I didn't address at all in this video. I also keep my viola in a silk bag within the case so perhaps that's something to explore if you are continuing to have problems with the sweating issue you mentioned (with or without the BAM case).

Hi Alice. Trombonist here, but I started out on violin when I was 7, if that buys me some cred…but it didn’t stick. Trombone did stick. After my mom died in December 2019, I bought myself her last gift to me: a new-to-me orchestral tenor trombone. (I’m at least two generations older than you-having both my parents into my 60s was a gift. I miss them, but I’m grateful to have had them as long as I did.) It didn’t come with a case, so I needed to buy a new case for this expensive (for a trombone-you’d think of it as inexpensive-string instruments and woodwinds are crazy expensive at this level!) trombone. I looked hard at the appropriate BAM case, but I ended up going with a Marcus Bonna, mostly on the basis of availability. (I could actually get a Bonna-no BAMs were available in the US at the time.) I splurged and got the leather covered case. So…uncovered fiberglass cases are every bit as loud as your CF BAM case is. I have my bass trombone in an Eastman fiberglass case without a case cover. I keep the straps tightened up completely when I’m not backpacking the horn. The Bonna isn’t loud at all, but I still keep the straps tightened up completely when I’m not backpacking it. Unfortunately, Bonna doesn’t make viola cases. They do make violin cases, but not viola cases. What lives in my trombone case? The bell and slide section, three mouthpieces, and an extra lead pipe that doesn’t work for me. Two microfiber cloths, and a practice mute to protect the bell flare from drops.

Last year I bought my first not student violin. I took the case for the student violin with me because the new violin didn't come with a case and I didn't care for the cases that the shop sold. The violin I bought is a Jacob Stainer replica from about 1900 and didn't fit in my case. So, the shop dug through their returned/old loaner cases and it didn't fit any of the violin cases. The only case it would fit was a viola case. The damage on the case isn't noticeable, but my Kun shoulder rest doesn't fit and that drives me a little nuts.

Hello, so it does not come with a music pouch? I saw your old one had the black slip/protector, my guess is your sheet music goes in between, but how does that work with this new case?

Sadly it did not - that's one of my biggest complaints with the bam contour cases. No place for sheet music!

How are you finding this case i am stuck on choosing between the contour or the slim violin case or the Tonarelli violin case i would love Bam but would also love to know how you carry music since there isn't a sheet music compartment

I do like the case, but I hate not having anywhere for sheet music! That is less of a big deal for me now as I don't often travel with a lot of sheet music now that I'm out of school, but it is frustrating that none of the BAM contoured cases have sheet music folders.

I have the Pirastro Korfkerest. It makes a huge impact on the sound of my instrument so it's worth it for me, but the amount of customization you can do with it is actually very overwhelming!

I don't know why you made that comment about being "a classical string player" to know about BAM cases as if BAM didn't make cases for wind instruments or as if string players of other music genres didn't use them as well.
