The Bama Performance team took a trip back down to MIR and made some passes in the 2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost in hopes to make their first 12-second pass!
Bone stock the car went 13.6 @ 98 MPH. We then added a Bama 93 Track Tune / Airaid CAI combo and made a few more passes! The car almost picked up a full second with a 12.9 @ 103 MPH.. Stay tuned for more from this car as the Bama team is just getting started!

I really don't understand some people. As a guy who has owned plenty of V8, V6, and now an eco-boost mustang, I can definitely say there's room for all of them. I also don't know why you intentionally enter the comment section of a video you clearly have no interest in just to knock someone else's car. The most hilarious part is that this car, with just a tune and CAI, will beat a stock GT for $6000+ less (those savings count the money spent on the cold air intake and tune). The bang for buck on this car is insane. In fact, there's a video from another racing group (I think it's JPR) that is getting 12.6 on stock tires and just a tune.

Tyler Brasil I agree with you I have the same problem with the 2011+ v6 owners. I have a 2010 GT they keep saying how much faster there cars are with mods. And my car has no mods.

Tyler Brasil That, and with the same mod, CAI and tune, the car will put down an additional 45+ HP and thats what, 600 hundred bucks? I just bought an ALMOST NEW 2013 GT for 22,990 before TTL and whatnot, and thats a STEAL imo. The 5.0 sounds so much meaner, and with that price, is SO much better for the money.

I really think you're missing the point of everything I said and it seems like you are the one who is being very defensive. I made two very clear points in my comment and neither was that the eco-boost is a better car than the GT. My first point was that a lot of people just come into these comment sections wanting to trash on different cars and that's a waste of time. The second point was that, bang for buck, the eco-boost is an amazing deal. The bang for buck comment is specifically why I have an issue with your response claiming mod for mod the GT will always be superior. Yes, that is correct. However, you sound very confrontational saying that and that's like saying a mustang GT that is modded to beat a Ferrari Berlinetta should never be compared to that car because someone with a higher budget can buy the Ferrari and mod that to be faster. The entire point isn't that the GT or the Ferrari is better than the other, but just that it's amazing what you can do with a lesser car... again, bang for buck.

***** You are completely wrong. 2011 to 14 5.0s with intake, full exhaust, throttle body, and tune made closer to 450rwhp not 380... The 11-14 5.0 made almost 380rwhp stock... Also that ecoboost with bama tune is not making 360rwhp. It is making around 290rwhp and 380rwtq.

Amazing how so many people are into these cars. I own a gt500 and love a v8 and a blower... But these are cool in their own way !

utopia vanished I totally agree! While nothing will replace that V8 sound, there is something to be said for a small displacement 4-banger with a turbo embarrassing some V8's while getting good gas mileage at the same time. Thanks for watching! -Justin

Finally a test done that's done correctly. Stock with DR then with CAI and tune. Good job guys... and a tuning company that finally states they raised boost....

Wow that's a great pass, certainly getting these Ecoboosts working better!! A turbo is such a great addition, can't wait till I can turbo my 4.0. If Ford wants to experiment more with the Ecoboost concept then the V6s will probably be on the way out unfortunately...until they decide to turbo them which would be amazing.

Well my caddy CT’s-v ran a 12.5 without the air aid. And when I installed it I got at a 11.99 time. That makes the driver special also!

People make it sound like this car goes 80mph top speed. Tbh any car that goes over 120 is pretty fast imo, cause in reality when do u really need to go that fast? On the track? How many people actually go to a track. I cant wait to get this as my first car in november for my birthday its got style power and good gas mileage. Idgaf if its not a 5.0 it is identical in style and a little slower but im 17 i dont need a car with 400+hp.

your first car should be 2500$ trust me bro your gonna be bummed when you knick or bump into something in a new car, everyone does it when they first start driving, you just don't have experience or seat time to jump in a sports car you won't respect. having 170hp is a bit different then doubling your power numbers you're accustom too, I'm just saying little dude get a cheap V8 that's smogged down with low compression and small displacement and learn from there, get a feel for power that you can control not a car that exceeds your driving skill, I had a cheap sports cat as my first and I'm glad it was a 2500 dollar with a rung out flat tappet v6 cause I crashed and bumped into stuff. just some advise little dude, my brother didn't respect his lightning and rapped it around a tree he is 26... just saying food for thought

I think giving 17 year olds brand new nice cars robs them of the experience of trying to piece together hunks of shit and crashing them into each other at music festivals because you don't give a shit. I'm 29 now and still think even though we've got nicer cars now we were happier and having more fun back then. You can even get nicer cars in your mid 20's and still be young with a good car but at 17? Nah I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

I'm so glad I didn't let the dealer sell me that eco boost. With the recalls. I'm going to hold out for the 5.0. But getting a 2015 5.0 is like getting Jordans or an iPhone 6 plus on release date.

Impressive gains for such minimal work! I think this drivetrain could and should find its way into older Mustang SVO's as a popular swap candidate in place of the older and outdated Turbo 2.3 from the 1980's.

This is just the beginning, I have a 2015 ecoboost and decided to buy exactly what you guys tested, Airraid intake and Tune from BamaPerformance. I can't wait to get it installed, and when they start producing more bolt on's, I can't wait to embarrass some V8 meat head. Then turn down the boost and drive to work for great MPG.

Hey AM, if you picked up time, that means your car should run mid 14's. Picked up is also same as added. So in reality, proper word use is, (dropped nearly a full sec.), and get rid of the aftermarket CAI, they don't make the car any faster. I've tested 20+ cars with and without a upgraded CAI, and in fact, more often than not, the car that ran oem intake with just a simple drop-in filter, was faster. Also, taller wheels and a short side wall will make the car slower, as it takes more time for one full revolution and extends braking distance. Most of us also don't have 93 octane and on 91 octane the Eco-stang makes 300 hp, the 5.0 makes 425-427hp on 91...

Don't forget this was in 31 degree air, vs 61 degree air. Just the temperature difference is going to make the car faster by a few tenths, then, the Density Altitude was 1800' below sealevel. Folks, with a DA that low, it's equivelant to adding 20 hp to a car. It's why ATCO runs such non-real world times, because 75% don't live where we get cold air and super low DA like this, even in winter, and tracks are never open in winter in many places due to snow.

AmericanMuscle.com DA plays a huge part here in the south, especaily for the 4 cylinders. I have a bone stock 2000 4cyl auto Tacoma that I run sometimes for the heck of it. No wheelspin whatsoever. During the summer at our local track the DA was around 3000 and my truck pulled some 17.50 1/4 and 11.55 1/8 Last Novemeber the Da was around 500 and she went high 16;s with 10,90's 1/8 which means a half second was gained mostly in the first eighth. It seems to me the slower the car the more DA affects it..because my buddies with 9 second race cars were only going about a tenth faster.

What did u stage the car at? Meaning what was the rpm at when you launched. My car is getting Dynod this week. I have a intake, blowoff valve and resignator delete already and I ran 15.1 I'm getting it tuned this week. I hope I can run 12s

i bought an ecoboost thinkinh it would be mid, that i would get gapped by any entry sport car like genesis or shit like this, but i was really surprised, this shit it pulling hard, and the potential is insane, intercooler, intake, exhaust and you can get 100+ hp from a pd tuning, that's crazy

I wonder how you guys at AM feel about the reliability of the 2.3 ecoboost especially when modded. Say you want to go full bolt ons with a tune which engine do you think would fair better? The 3.7 or the 2.3? From my understanding the DI 2.3 is already pushing close to 20lbs of boost stock, I mean I wonder how much more can you really push that engine before it starts giving you issues? That being said, I imagine your warranty goes out the window with a tune so it's not exactly an attractive option to mod an already stressed engine only to drastically reduce it's lifespan then have to pay out of pocket when it fails.

Sigrafix We're really enjoying the Ecoboost so far. Obviously the 3.7 Ecoboost is a better platform to start with. However, it's not offered in the 2015 Mustang at this time. So we're making the best of 2.3L and I have to say I'm pretty impressed! The motor doesn't seem stressed at all with the amount of power it's safely and reliably picking up!Stay tuned.. AmericanMuscle.com I meant the 3.7 V6 vs 2.3 Ecoboost, the V6 Ecoboost is a 3.5 I believe, hell if that were offered in the Mustang I think even die hard 5.0 fans would be hard pressed to pass it up. In any case, if you guys do run into some trouble with the 2.3, I hope you do discuss it publicly in a video or otherwise, I'm considering buying one early next year so I'm looking to see of any failures modded or unmodded, I'm a little concerned with that engines longevity at those power levels, I hope it's bulletproof.

Ford doesn't mess around with their turbo engines. A guy in my area has a focus ST and is running full stage 3 on 29psi and daily drives it and hes been doing this for like 6 months now. Its making somewhere in the high 300's to the wheels and its pretty quick. He hasn't had any reliability issues with it at all. This will be like any really built 4 cylinder turbo, once you start making 500+ hp it'll start to give you little problems but with just bolt ons i cant see it breaking like a DSM all the time.

Very impressive performance boost. I'd like to see how one of these runs on a road course with a factory upgraded suspension. This being the first time I've seen the eco-boost Mustang, I know nothing about its option packages. I'll say this: Being a former GT owner ('82 and '87), this is a real eye opener.

it is much easier to tune a turbo or suüercharged engine instead of a NA. Get a SC on a V6 or V8 and you have your tune. Things like CAI and exhaust and something brings only about 5%. A Turboengine can reach +20% only by chiptuning. I fear some GT drivers will suffer these easy and cheap tunes from the EB drivers. But the Stang is much to heavy anyway for a little 4 banger. Unfortunately next Camaro goes with the same 4T engine but hopefully the chassis will weigh 200pounds less,lol.

okay do we get that tune file used the for 1/4 run by Bama. I'm a toss up between Bama and Unleash with SCTx4. Bama looks very impressive with just CAI airaid.

Hey Jeff, I have a ton of friends that have BAMA tunes and they run great. I have personally seen thee Unleashed tunes in action and the power it brought to the EcoBoost. Here is a link that you should definitely check out regarding Unleashed Tuning and an EcoBoost - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5-1d6qcr7-Boas . Personally, I would have no problem at all running both of these tunes, but at the end of the day I would have to go with Unleashed! Hope this helps. - Matt

Matt - the chat mustang guru popped up and suggested Mr. Torrie R. McPhail - Owner ..Unleashed Tuning with SCT X4 Flash. My first intentions was BAMA because I saw the 12s 1/4 mile run stock. As the chat went on, forgot the guys name, I purchased your SCT X4 Flash with unleash link provided, free shipping was great. Working with Mr. Torrie R. McPhail, he was very patient with me finding ecoboost ecu strategy over the two days, he gave me 2 tries, so forth I loaded his tunes after reading the instructions needing 64bit driver for Windows 10...... Mr. McPhail tunes pull good up to 6800 RPMs that I can tell, my driving shift habits at 5300 RPMS, I don't need 6800 RPM realms, not driving a flat plane crank engine, its nice to know I can, unleash ROCKS!

Does the intake actually do anything? Because alot of people say that the stock intake is good and you should only change it if you swap the turbo for a bigger one, so you should get the same numbers with just the tune.

I knew a guy with a 2011 mustang V6 auto that I drove myself with intake only to a 14.4 @ 96 mph and then after loading his Bama tune 10 mins later I drove it to a 13.8 @ 103.8 mph. How was that intake and tune V6 from 2011 still out trapping an Ecoboost?

In stock form the EB can have a trap speed of 102 mph, typically with the manual. The EB with tune , intercooler and tire mod ($1800 worth of mods), is running 12.6 - 13.2 1/4 mi @ 104 - 110 mph depending on temps. The intercooler is very important on the EB, something that was not included on this vid, however, temps were already low. Intercooler shows improvement with the top end and trap speeds. The v6 will never run 12.6 - 13.2 with tune and tire mod only. Tune plus intake usually helps them run consistent 13.7 -13.8 sec @ 100 - 103 mph. The only benefit to the v6 is that it can sound good with a exhaust. That is all. Can it be FASTER than a EB and even a GT? sure as hell, but WAY more $$$$ to spend on it.

What do you think would be the better platform for building? I'm not talking anything insane or anything like that but a nice average build. the ecoboost 4cyl or the v6? The ecoboost starts out pushing 20lbs of boost so surely it can't take too much more than that even if you replace the turbo, which you would have to do soon because I believe that turbo is past its efficiency at around 22-23lbs of boost. I would think the v6 stang would still be the better platform due to having more engine to work with starting out. Wouldn't the v6 also be more reliable than the eco?

the eco is brand new while the 3.7 is anout 4-5 years old. if you're talking about a 4-500HP build, then the ecoboost is probably better because. 1.less weight. 2. comes stock with a turbo so it for sure can handle a little more turbo and responds better to simple tuning. 3. people are more likely to build up a ecoboost over the 3.7 so parts will flood in. the reliability is something only time will tell

but if you do turbo or sc it then you would have more power at lower boost and it would probably be more reliable. I just don't think the eco will be all that reliable after you start modding it but I suppose time will tell

Bamavol89 with just a tune and exhaust people have gotton 400+RWTQ and 325+hp. i think its easy to make power similar to a v8 with a cam, tune cai, and exhaust. it won't be hard to get 400RWHP out of it, and i believe it will be semi reliable

hey I need help some one answer please. I have an ecoboost manual with no sports package. I want to tune my car to get it running 12's. but I live in California and nobody sells 93 octane. I guess its illegal here cause of emissions. I could get a 91 octane tune but will it be as fast as this?

I'm not a troll but I felt they sand bagged the stock run. Just an air intake and tune wouldn't make that big of a difference.

With only an intake and a tune the 0-60 time for my 2008 Legacy GT dropped from 5.60 seconds to 4.87. Removing one of the stock cats and retuning again dropped it to 4.48. Tuning alone on a turbocharged vehicle can have a MASSIVE impact, speaking from experience.

Sure is a good car to play with, but the sound... Listened to Ford Racing, Roush, MAPerformance,MRTand Kooks exhaust available, they all sound like toys. May be a blowoff valve would help the cool factor.

Really the car is to heavy for a 4cyl. If it were about 300 to 500 pounds lighter it would walk all over the hot hatches and BRZs it will inevitably be paired off with but at it's current weight, I think it really needs a 6cyl duel turbo or a v8. It takes a pretty tiny light car to pull off a 4cyl well. It's a good power plant but not I think for the Mustang.

It's about the same as an Audi A5, BMW 4, Honda Accord coupe, ect ect and these come with a 4cyl. 30+ mpg from a 4cyl running 12's is a tall order and it was filled by ford. *the BMW and Audi could get there but at this point you've already paid upwards of 10k more

Victor Andrews Motor Trend doesn't seem to be a fan of the Mustang, citing it's weight and lack of pickup in the Ecoboost trim. And spongey suspension versus the Camaro in it's GT trim. Though I understand they tend to be very badge whorey. If that makes sense. I think it can be made better. But the after market will have to pick up the slack as usual.

I agree... it's definitely a slow car when it can beat a stock GT (which has more than double the displacement) on just a tune and intake. Also, If only there was aftermarket exhaust you could put on a car to make it louder. A real shame. -end sarcasm-

Really? I know you've said this before and I'll give you the same answer- 'Track' is an all-encompassing term here. If my car buddies call me up and say "Hey man we're heading to the track tonight" that means one thing and one thing only- they're going to the strip. To me it'd be more awkward if they called and were like "Hey bro want to go to the drag strip tonight?" Its like the equivalent of my parents calling KZbin, "The KZbin". :) -Justin
