The book's story honestly feels much more true to how deer live irl.

Yes. Seems like the writer put himself in the deers position in life. Obviously they don't have the same level of intellect. But they have survival instincts and feel pain. Any hunter knows you don't shoot females.

That's because the author was a hunter and also hiked a lot in the forests around Vienna where he's originally from. His hiking trips inspired the book. Because of politics he had to move to Switzerland though and because of financial issues he sold the rights to Disney for very cheap (it was in the 1930s and 40s). They then changed pretty much everything, the animals became American species instead of European ones (originally Bambi was a roe deer) and the plot was heavily modified. There's a sequel too, Bambi's children, it's really nice too.

To me the hunter who killed Bambis mother was not a true hunter, but a poacher. My grandfather hunted and knew all the rules. One rule in particular states that you are to NEVER kill a doe that has a fawn present. Without the mother the fawn won’t survive unless, like in Bambis case, the father buck or another doe steps in to help.

"Remains a dark mysterious figure, and only returns later in life to teach him how to survive." Yeah, that makes sense for the time period it was written in. Most fathers had a very hands-off approach to raising children until they got to the age where you could take them camping and hunting and such = survival skills.

It's literally Star Wars....or rather George Lucas's perfect distillation of The Hero's Journey as interpreted through Joseph Campbell's The Power of Myth and The Hero of a Thousand Faces.... Human stories are all the same because humans aren't that different across cultures at the very heart of our beings. We also have not changed as much since the Bronze Age as one might think...which is why those myths still persist. You must have heard of The Torah and The Bible, yes? Anyway, back to Bambi....

It was the first movie I remember going to. And I never wanted to go to another one, because Bambi's mother died. This affected me to the point that when I started school I did not want to go because it left my mother home alone and there was no one there to protect her. I threw a fit every single morning until my mother went to work and then I was fine. Children often feel like they are the protectors of their mother. I've never watched the Bambi movie again, nor killed a deer, although I have eaten deer meat. But I always felt that movie should not have been produced but Disney often did away with the mother or never had a mother present at all. It makes you wonder about his mother. I'd like to know.

But my teacher called me after lunch and said i can leave home early. I never understood why my teacher let me go too early, but im pretty excited to show my grandpa the CDs. I realized when I went home my grandpa was already covered on white sheet. 😢 This happened more than a decade ago during grade school 😢

@@TheMysticalSerpent SPOILER: In their childhood days, they were running away from the hunter and Gobo tripped and fell, so he was left behind at the humans' mercy. For many years the characters believed that he was dead until he came back all grown up and well. It turned out that the humans adopted him and gave him shelter, so that made him believe that all humans are in fact good. When the trio ran into the hunters again, Gobo naively tried to convince his friends again that humans aren't bad, so he ran straight to the hunters which resulted in him getting killed

She doesn’t lose him, she gets caught in a hunter’s trap and Bambi leads a pack of dogs away from her to save her life (she tells him to run away at first, but he doesn’t because she says the same thing his mother said before she died). You know people protested hunting because of Bambi. Even tho Bambi must have been born in the wrong time of year. As his father had full antlers meaning Bambi was born during the rut which is usually breeding season and the only time hunting is legal. When deer are usually born in May or June.
