Bitoku is my favourite board game, so I was really curious about Bamboo. Great playthrough! I really enjoyed it and I'll buy it for Christmas. Thank you! :)

If Silk is one of the games in that 3-game saga, then that was the first one, not an upcoming one. From 2018 according to BGG.

You are probably correct. We’ve never played Silk and it was listed 3rd in the picture so we assumed.

@@AntLabGames The weird thing is they're really pushing the who trilogy thing now (my copy of Bitoku unlike Bamboo doesn't say 'the Kenmushi Saga', I think the rule book briefly mentions the trilogy idea) but because Silk doesn't appear to be in stock almost anywhere I contacted Devir and was told they wouldn't be reprinting it.

Didn't know anything about this game, but am so glad your video popped up in my feed. First of all, thanks for the rules overview and the playthrough! I like Devir games, I used to live in Japan so I love all the cultural nods in the game, and the gameplay looks really fun. (It also looks like a great way to introduce new gamers to a lot of different mechanisms in an unintimidating way.) Not much info on BGG or Devir's website, but I'm guessing this one is going straight or retail (sooner rather than later)? (Side note: Have you heard any tidbits about the upcoming Devir game, The White Castle? It's done by the same duo that did The Red Cathedral and it features my favorite castle in Japan, Himeji Castle.) Anyway, thanks again for the playthrough!

Yep, Devir doesn't do Kickstarters so all of their games go straight to retail. This one should be available later this month.

I had thought this might be a family/kids game but this is really for at least 10-12 year olds. As an adult game, I can’t tell if this has legs. We love Creature Comforts, so its not like all our games need to be Ark Nova, but hard to tell how fun this one is to play. Love the world and art and components and production, for sure. What makes the fun in the game play would you all say?

We would say the quick playtime and depth of strategy is just enough to keep it satisfying but it does not drag on. It ends just soon enough, and you get the feel of having planned and played a nice puzzle. It’s definitely not a kid game, but I think your spot on with a min age of 10-12. The fun for me (Frances) like I mentioned in our review at the end, was maximizing a few different mechanics instead of just one primary mechanic (which is what we normally see in this level game). Also, for a small tile placement board, having to meet objectives while also maintaining balance was fun. I thought the bamboo action selection was charming and still uniquely strategic. If you want even more depth, you can use the back of the board which has even more placement requirements for house tiles. All in all, definitely one we’d bring out before or after a heavier game. Hope this helps!!

Love the playthrough... but just as a note at 42:20 you could not score your second balance tile as both home tiles were not on the right side

Left and right scoring tiles don’t have to match with left/right decoration tiles? Or can you use any tile anywhere?

I had the same question! I thought that the left balance tiles had to have the decorations on the left side?

I just looked in the rulebook they provided with the game and it does say that “in order to score these tiles you must fulfill the pattern within the space on… the left side (if it’s left balance tiles, right side if it’s the right) and the center balance tiles with the star can be scored with ALL of the space in your home.”
