Speaking as a guy who runs an etsy shop and a stall at the local farmer's market: Yah. It's a time and money suck. But my wife loves it, it gets me out from behind my computer, and it's cheaper than therapy.
@seanwoods6472 ай бұрын
Full disclosure this etsy and farmer's market stuff is pure hobby. I pay the mortgage as a software engineer.
@seanwoods6472 ай бұрын
We do make money at conventions. Farmers markets and Etsy are actually cheap and easy test markets to figure out what will sell at larger venues. Pretty much if kids (or parents) give you the "shut up and take my money" reactions about something they just do it more at Cons. And it is the most random products that people respond to.

As for your noisy X1C: It's happened to me once, it just needed a quick power cycle. No need to let it sit overnight. It happened when I bumped the printhead and it lost steps. Later I turned on "Auto-recovery for lost steps" and I haven't had it happen since. You may want to clean the guide rods, just to make sure they aren't "sticky".
@3DMusketeers2 ай бұрын
tried power cycling, no avail. Everything was recently cleaned. I THINK it was a driver overheating but dont know
@MrDB422 ай бұрын
@@3DMusketeers I missed that you said you power cycled. I'm just relaying what happened to me once. It sounded and acted just like you showed. But it was my fault for bumping the printhead. It's a mystery then,

I've snapped fans blades off of at least 3 fans on my Prusa MK3. That's why I have a at least two spare fans at all times. I swapped the Noctua for something more powerful to solve heatcreep during the summer, accidently stick fingers where they don't belong and WHAM! Broken fan.

If you have access to a thermal camera, you could check out the board under power and see what's glowing hot. And that would tell you what's overheating and where you need to direct your cooling.

Had the identical thing that made the Bambu scream happen on my custom CoreXY printer, it might have been the motors overheating instead of the drivers. This happens when the motor doesn’t have enough strength to move at the desired speed so it starts skipping steps (and the desired movement is fast enough that it doesn’t have a chance to sync up on a full step). As the motors heat up, their strength lowers, which I suspect caused your issue. In my case, it was improperly tuned current and stealthchop

I would love more business videos too! I run a small family company and occasionally do the odd, expensive custom part. Rather than volume production.

Somebody on Reddit asked what the advanced loading feature on the Mk4/MMU3 was for, I jokingly said it was for advanced users who have a tendency to throw whatever filament they had into the printer 🤣

Regarding the P1S, I run my x1c without an ams quite a bit. It doesn't really matter what filament you set the external spool to, you can run the machine with any gcode/3mf file and the machine will brute force itself to run with the incorrectly set filament. Same goes for the a1 mini.
@3DMusketeers2 ай бұрын
really? that seems like a flaw.. I guess I have never tried on mine so I made a best guess because the AMS stops you..
@ats19952 ай бұрын
Yeah that definitely seems like a flaw. My Prusa Mini has it and it's a must for future printers for me.

I would love to hear your thoughts about farmers' markets. This is my first year doing them. You know already how I price my materials, and I have had outstanding success with my sales. Some weeks are far better than others, but that's to be expected.
@3DMusketeers2 ай бұрын
absolutely! I still think you dont charge enough ;) But I get it, high volume!
@logicalfundy2 ай бұрын
In my opinion - if you can keep up with demand and you're satisfied with the money made, then the pricing is fine. If you run a publicly traded business, or if you have strong growth goals for the business, then aggressive pricing strategies becomes a lot more important. But in my opinion, a small "mom and pop" business doesn't need to price high if there's adequate income. It's not as if buyers complain about low prices.

I’d love to see a business advise oriented video! In in the works for planning to open an Etsy shop but am only printing functional items that I myself have created. I envision my two main hurdles are people ripping my designs off and not reaching my customer base because I’ll be buried amongst hundreds of other products. Any advise is appreciated!

Wow! That noise on your X1-Carbon. Yikes! I have no idea what that would be either unfortunately. Sounds basic but you can try using IPA on the X/Y rods to see if any debris comes loose or notice any anomalies on the rods themselves like digs or indentions. Other than that, I would create a ticket and they will probably want to see what it is doing, so they can give it their best guess. Sorry about your printer and Printing Academy. Lots of horrible stuff but good information.

I dont waste my time with Bambu customer support anymore, not after they were caught giving us special treatment because we are content creators. That is slimy.
@darkalleywaystudio39752 ай бұрын
@@3DMusketeers I can see how you can see it that way. I would still give them a try. I recently had to get a front fan housing unit because of my own dumb mistake. USPS screwed the order up and sent it back for unknown reasons (probably ruined the address label, so package could not be delivered). I created a support ticket and they fixed the issue the same day by sending another fan out instead of waiting for the fan to reach them and then send it out again. Most manufacturers would have waited to send the fan until they would have received the initial order or made you reorder another one. Plus, it could give you more talking points about their support.
@3DMusketeers2 ай бұрын
It got to the point where they told me I was getting special support because I am a creator, that is when I stopped using them. That is unethical. And frankly I would just replace it myself with a nicer fan. It is a multi hour process to diagnose and I dont particularly care to do it right now..
