Very nice walkthrough Loyal. Resin printing is definitely getting a lot more convenient to deal with. It is incredible how much has happened in the 3D printing world, just in the 1 year plus I have been a part of it. Now while I would love such a setup with this combo unit(s), the biggest issue is the lack of space. :D

This is what keeps me away. The first company to give me an easy to use, out of the box solution that comes with some kind of intended ventilation solution that fits most window sizes would get my money. I want to make super detailed prints, I'd love to make little statues, but none of that is worth the hazard risk to my family in an apartment setting. As the hobby currently stands, I feel like you need to own a dedicated resin printing room or climate controlled shed and this just isn't feasible for many today.

I like the look and build quality of HeyGear's new printer. I could see it being a great system included with their wash and curing combo for doing miniatures and figurines. It's great that it works pretty much out of the box. HeyGears is like the Bambu of Resin printers, imo. It'll be interesting to see how it handles working with un-official resin material using their resin cartridge bottles. This could be something I could get into down the road when I get to where I want to get into doing resin printing and potentially start up a side business that could utilize it to help support the hobby.

Dentist here… I’ve been printing on GKTwo for almost a year now, but only since I need dental models and occasionally a Nightguard. The challenge for dental is that we are a user base who needs resin printing but they don’t know how or have the software available to take the STLs of dental models and 1)put a “base” and internal support structure 2)use a Chitu or Lychee slicer 3) have knowledge of placing supports and orienting the models correctly 4) post processing them 5) calibrating the resin purchased. Now Chitubox has a dental software to automate that step 1-3 but that’s all we got. Hence a lot of dentists are just purchasing the expensive SprintRay or Asiga ecosystem of products and resins: not much learning needed besides post-processing… it’s plug and play, and resins are calibrated by the manufacturer.

Having worked in a dental office, and having had the Reflex for 2 weeks, I can say that this isn't enough for medical grade applications. It would be amazing for printing verification models and surgical models. With this speed and ease of use, it would be awesome to have in a dental lab, but it's not quite up to par with making the actual dentures or medical implants. HeyGears does have actual dental machines that seem to be on par with Asiga, Desktop health, and Sprintray. I haven't tested those HeyGears models. I have printed with the other dental printers though.

I dunno about the resin cartridge. Bc when you change bottles, getting the resin back in the bottle is important. And with failed prints concerns, that doesn’t seem to be helpful to a big degree, and significantly increases road of fap damage, which can result in costly costly annoying repairs. So, that I don’t get so much. But that wash station is SWEET

The anti-resin crowd is loud and exaggerates quite a lot. It’s not nearly as bad as many people have been told. Nobody is dropping dead or filling hospitals because of resin printing. I hope that the next step for customer level resin printers is managing the VOCs within the chamber with better filtering, looping air through them, self-sealing vat after print, replaceable filters / active carbon inputs. I really like resin 3d printing, but I didn't care when I started using it, after a while I ditched using gloves and used hands to scrap the full vat etc and now I get the effects of resin poisoning or allergy quite fast (swollens lymph glands and nose, sore throat - kinda like your description of asa posioning?).

seem like one of the things resin printers fall short at is printing flat on the build plate. It looks like they are addressing this with the dynamic motion algorithm. Coming from a design/manufacturing environment I think this would be a boon for rapid prototyping at lest for the non-organic shapes.

@meadmaker45254 ай бұрын
Where to go from here? Bigger. I'd like to see an X1C-sized build plate on a Hey Gears machine. With that, you could print just about ANYTHING you wanted. Unfortunately, just about all resin printers have an odd, rectangular build plate that kind of restricts its use. If you're printing minis and such, it's moot. This is a fantastic machine. But if Hey Gears wanted to improve in some way, build a machine with a very large, square build plate. THAT would be interesting. With the amazing quality of the end product from this machine, I bet a bunch of prop makers and FDM cosplayers would suddenly be VERY interested.

To go from this to the HeyGears having to be online and use their resin is definitely not a selling point for me. I could buy 2 more Saturn 4 Ultras for the price of 1 HeyGears RS and that is before the actual price of the printer goes up after the preorder sales have finished. Well, That's another rich persons system to be sure, no normal hobbyist has that money! I think most people are in fact turned off from Resin printing because of the pricey cost of the systems and the resin and also it being toxic and hard to get rid of the used resin and any wash liquid. I have the Elegoo Saturn 2 and cure and wash system. But I don't use it, Because of the points above! Sadly in the UK we don't have the strong year round sun light to help with the resin waste water and no companies for safely disposing of the waste water. But if you live in a year round hot sunny place then get it.
@thomasd98274 ай бұрын

I don't think this is a rich persons solution... I mean, I've bought $5k printers and I don't think of those as rich persons printers. They are just machines that may or may not be within or outside of a personal budget. As for the resin disposal, you can just hit it with a UV light as mentioned by another comment and cure it for disposal. I do hope you can have so positive experiences that can turn your time with these machines back into a joyful one.
