When you start looking into 3D Printers, like me, you see how cheap they are, like the Creality Ender 3. After a couple of days watching reviews of various brands you find out that Bambu Lab seem to be the market leader. Good, we can get one for £/$400, thats not too bad. Oh wait, to print ABS we could do with an enclosure, oh and maybe that 4 spool AMS... Oh Shit!, I just spent over £1K on my first 3D Printer and accessories.

See like you, and many others, i was in the same situation. I started with an Ender 3 and like half my prints failed, wouldn't stick to the bed, you had to level the bed with a twisty knob and a piece of paper. It was a nightmare, and when you showed someone how "3D Printers worked", they thought you were crazy. I barely every used it i didn't wanna spend 30 mins on prep every time i had to print. Then i sold that, and bought a Prusa i3 MK3S clone kit. Idk why, because i HATE assembling stuff and oh boy was there some assembly. I think the assembly took a week or something, with half the time being ready to give up. It prints fine, but instead of looking into adding custom stuff, cameras, an enclosure, raspberry pi's and all this extra stuff. Im now just looking into a P1S. The software is better than anything else, its easy to use, and for people who dont enjoy fiddling around and tinkering, it seems like the obvious choice. I just want to print. And being able to change color is amazing. And then on top of that the Bambu LOOKS amazing. The Prusa is extremely ugly, the third party enclosure are expensive and also ugly. This Bambu printer, my wife almost actually approved which is a huge step. And also it seems a lot more pet friendly as everyone is enclosed. With this P1S, i could actually have my office door open to my pets without worry.

Pro-tip on support for PLA. It operates much like using PETG as a support in that it doesn't stick to PLA as aggressively as straight PLA. This allows you to set your interface gap to zero thus giving you far better finishes on support sites. Also make sure you choose the option in Bambu Studio to only use the support material as the "Interface layer" as this minimizes filment changes and thus waste. Also when you choose that option, it will automatically set that interface gap to zero.

@alexshepherd3 ай бұрын
How’s it going for you? :) I was also keen on the X1C, until I realised the doubling of the price seems to get only three extra things; 1. A nicer touchscreen display, which presumably is replicated if you use a mobile phone and the app to control the P1S/P1P (my machines are in my garage some distance from my PC) 2. Hardened steel nozzle/gears for fibre filaments (can be added to the P1P/P1S later) 3. LiDAR scanning of the first layer/high resolution camera/fault detection. This is unique to the X1C, can’t be added to the others, but prints can still fail, so it’s not the miracle it first seems. Depends, I think, on your experience level (catching faults in the slicer before you try to print) and the size of the prints you make, ie. time and filament saved by fault detection. What gets me into the whole Bambu family in the first place is the VALUE of the base unit and the CAPABILITY of the AMS module. The latter is cheaper if bought with the printer (rather than added later) particularly with shipping considered, and it turns out that the P1P with AMS added costs the same as the P1S with AMS. Therefore, the P1S with AMS is the value ‘sweet spot’ across many options. Makes a Prusa Mk4 and even a Voron kit look expensive (I have a Voron already, I’m looking for a smaller and more convenient printer, and multimaterial capability). Printing supports in a separate material was a good mention in this video, I don’t think many of us think of that possibility (we tend to think just of the pretty colours…) But yeah, keen to know how it worked out in practice! Print quality and reliability met your expectations? :) Cheers!

Do I wish I had spent the extra money for the X1 Carbon? Sometimes, but I don't think the cost difference is justified. I'd been printing for 3.5 years on a Sidewinder X1 and wanted to upgrade to CoreXY and I don't regret the choice. I dislike some of the things Bambu does as a company, but they make great printers for certain. I also think they are good about fixing things that are a problem. I spent some time printing on my brother's X1 Carbon last summer and though I liked the printer I was unhappy about how long it took to upload files through their cloud. 6 months later now that I have my own P1S the speeds are noticeably faster than they were a few months ago. Also, I've heard that you "need" to open the lid or door to print PLA in these enclosed printers, but I've done neither and all my prints have been fantastic. My AMS is on top of the top lid, and if I leave the door open my clumsy self will find a way to break it, so that's not happening either. It works fine with them both closed with all the PLA I have tried.

One thing that reviewers of the Bambu Lab always fail to mention is that the WiFi connectivity on these things is not very good. Which is odd, since the out of the box approach is indeed a major advantage of this machine. To connect the machine to your pc you need to install their app (which asks user information, location and for some reason your contacts information). Next, it only can make a connection through a pilot blue tooth connection (rather than entering SSID and pwd immediately, like on all other networked machines). On top of that, the WiFi antenna on these machines is notably very weak (as a summary search of KZbin comments describing similar issues indicates). All this is very odd, since the WiFi antenna is on the back of the panel. Production and customer relation wise, it would have been very easy to update the WiFi antenna to a stronger model. Despite this, comments regarding the weak WiFi reception (and the complicated process of making the connection) go back all the way to the first release of this otherwise quite good machine.

@Immolate6211 ай бұрын
There's a misconception that the A1 is somehow "little" compared to the P1S/P, but it actually has a larger print area than the P series (and X series) due to its lack of an exclusion zone. It doesn't matter often, but sometimes it does. The AMS Lite is the same capacity as the regular AMS, but it's more accessible, easier to load filament, and it doesn't really care if your filament is on a cardboard spool. You have a P1S to cover the exotics. An A1 will print PLA/PETG all day long and does a superb job. Either way though, you can't go wrong.

@@corkey2077 for most who don't have a problem, BBL created a strain relief gadget you can print out in a few minutes and install. For those who do have damage to their heat bed cable, they have the option of receiving a new heat bed to replace the entire assembly, or they can get a new printer if they aren't handy. That sounds like a perfect solution. When my P1S extruder broke, I bought a new one. When it stopped connecting to my WiFi, I dealt with it. Lesson is that these are complicated pieces of hardware integrated with software and they all go wrong. Bambu takes responsibility for all their products, but in the case of the A1, they are going the extra mile.

Not only do I think the A1 is a better deal for a beginner at half the price, I think it is a better printer at half the price. The P1S is enclosed, a bit faster, and is corexy. The A1 is lighter, has a more user-friendly and reliable AMS if you use filament on a cardboard spool (and of course you do), it is quieter, even after the P1S firmware upgrade, has a better screen, and offers an overall better user experience than any other printer I've had, and I've had a few. I replaced my MK3S with the P1S back in November, and it's such a wonderful machine. The black Friday deal got me a free hardened steel nozzle and gear upgrade, so it should be every bit as capable as the X1 :D I fully agree, the real strength of the AMS unit isn't multi colour prints, but the convenience of picking which spool to start a new print from remotely!

You sold me... I have a bed slinger now, and while the screen on the A1 would be nice, I want a core xy and if I decide to add multicolor later, the AMS on top of the P1S is a much cleaner looking setup. My only hesitation is that as soon as I order, they will drop one with a larger print volume like they did with the a1 mini 😂😂😂

@@Unknown_Disaster I have not experienced it personally but I have seen many people who were very satisfied with the printer but who had many failures with the AMS because of its drive system around the edge of the spool. I have a P1S without AMS as I dont have a need for color changes nor want to sacrifice the space that the AMS takes up. I have had it for 8 months and I have yet to clean the build plate, every print sticks great and comes off really nicely. I had a Artillery Genius before, lots of levelling/1st layer issues. This printer is on another level, they behave like a microwave; set and forget - I have not had a single failed print since day one (I only print PLA). Which is the reason why they are so populair. Really happy with it. Note that you need change the max volumetric speed if you are using a "standard" PLA profile (12mm3) - set it to 20 and the speed goes up dramatically while print quality remains the same - requires some calibration to make sure it works.

AMS is also useful for using up an entire spool of filament. You can have the machine auto pull from the next spool once the current one runs out mid print.

As someone thinking about getting into 3D printing, I love the level of detail you can get with resin, but with the fumes, the mess, the curing station, the washing station, the hazardous waste disposal, etc., FDM looks a LOT more friendly. This unit and the X1 Carbon series are probably at the top of my list. The difficulty I'm having now is understanding PLA vs PET-G vs ABS. To be fair, I've kind of ruled out using ABS because of the fumes, so it's really just PLA and PETG (which also apparently comes with carbon fiber in some iterations).
@FauxHammer5 ай бұрын
PLA and PETG are almost different sides of the same coin. I’ve never seen any benefit personally in left to need to use it. People say it’s tougher but honestly, I’ve not seen anything that particularly shows this. FDM is more user friendly in terms of cleanup. Or lack thereof surely, at the cost of detail. But honestly, it all depends with what you want to print. PLA has been fine for me so far, even with basic functional parts
@meadmaker45255 ай бұрын
@@FauxHammer - Thanks for your response. In the 2 weeks since I made my original post, I've watched a TON of FDM and SLA printer videos (lots of them yours - subbed). I think PLA will probably do everything I'd ever want for my projects (anything from minis to busts and larger figures to cosplay helmets and armor). The thing that tempts me away from units like the P1S or X1C is build volume, like on something like the Neptune 4 Max or the Creality K1 Max. I know you weren't terribly impressed with the Neptune 4, though. So I'm left to contemplate better user experience for a first-timer, but smaller build volume (Bambu) versus a more fiddly, somewhat less cooperative unit with a larger build volume (Neptune/Creality). I've also heard from a lot of people who've owned Bambu printers (print farms and solo units) that Bambu's aftermarket support is terrible and the printers break pretty often. I'm unsure where to file that (internet trolls vs valuable advice), but it's certainly a thing for a first-timer to consider. So, all of that to say, thanks for doing what you do to help those of us just starting in this hobby try to figure out which printer will best suit our needs. I'll keep watching...and eventually come to a decision.

Spent weeks tweaking for cheap Elegoo ASA and heating the chamber to 60oC w a heat gun to avoid corners lifting and warping. 1.5 hours of preheating and cooldown phases... Printing small parts is probably fine, but without a heated chamber large ribbed parts just don't work. Bought Bambu ASA, will see if it prints better / faster. I have only run three prints through my new P1S, but I have run each of them through a slicer set up for my old printer and it's like 1/3 of the time if not less. I was going to keep the Longer around for some basic parts, but after cranking out some parts over the last few hours that would have taken all weekend on it I think I'll look into ideas to repurpose it instead!!
