Hi, I'm Lucy and I'm totally not a robot! I recently got myself a Bambu Lab P1S 3D printer. This video shows how I unpacked it, put it together, and how it prints a benchy.

I think the 'filament' in the silver wrapping may actually be support material, which can be easily snapped off when a print job is finished.

That's indeed what it is.

Am a bit concerned about having the space and keeping the air quality. This set up looks fine, but have you found you needed to move it closer to a window, or set up an extractor tube at the back? Have you been concerned about fire hazard at all?

Surprisingly, the enclosure does a pretty decent job at containing the smell. I print mostly PLA, which generally has a very light smell, but unlike my previous open printers, I can smell absolutely nothing until I open the door. PETG does have a rather unpleasant smell, but even that is still very well contained while the door is closed. It does leak during longer prints, but you can only smell it a few steps away from the printer, it definitely doesn't fill the whole room. I haven't printed anything actually smelly, like ABS or ASA, but following the discussions around the internet, those aren't handled as well, and you'd get the smell of burnt electronics very quickly. It probably also helps that I have the printer installed right next to a door, in a relatively large room (6x8 meters), and I'm able to create a lot of airflow by simply opening the door and all windows. As far as fire hazard goes - I haven't been concerned too much. My main reasoning is that people run print farms with hundreds of these and they seem to be alright. But generally speaking, besides the hazards that all electronics share (e.g. bad cables, defective PSU), there are really two things of concern - the heater on the print head and the heater on the print bed - and I want to believe the printer has enough safeguards to shut itself down before it bursts in flames. But I understand how that might sound irresponsible :).

The demo green PLA that came with the printer. I assume it is this: eu.store.bambulab.com/collections/bambu-lab-3d-printer-filament/products/pla-basic-filament?variant=47794655461724
