Review video PART 2: Bambu Lab X1 In-Depth Review, Pros and Cons, multiple colors, carbon fiber Nylon, Polycarbonate
• Bambu Lab X1 In-Depth ...
Welcome back to Aurora Tech Channel. Today, I am super excited to review a 3D printer that is a few generations ahead of any printer in the market, the Bambu Lab X1. It’s going to blow every printer between $500-$5000 away, including my favorite Prusa and the gold standard of desktop Ultimaker 3D printers.
Bambu Lab first contacted me back in March. They are a new tech company, and the founder Dr. Tao was from DJI and led the development of Mavic Pro. They invited me to review their first 3D printer, which Dr. Tao and his team have been working on since 2020.
As I can imagine, when they were working on drones, they must have used a lot of 3D printing for prototyping. So, we can expect to see a 3D printer made by a group of former DJI engineers who also know 3D printing pretty well.
So, let’s do a quick look at what blow-away features this machine has...

The only printer that won't be blown away may be the refurbished Ender-3, it's so cheap and it's still a pretty good choice as of 2022:

Maybe in bad condition, but if you know how to fix some common issues of a 3D printer and have spare parts to replace by yourself, that could be an amazing deal:

The fact that you have this printer for review shows us that the industry takes you serious. Congratulation Aurora and Helios. Your eyes sparkle during this review which shows us your honest excitement. And it seems to be a breakthrough piece of technology, a serious milestone. Unlike many others you show us the advantage of the closed design and print not just PLA but also ABS. Great move. Your video is again well researched, exceptionally well executed and as always fun to watch (no bloopers!, grrr). Fan-Tas-Tic. I will wait for your in depth review but will keep my Prusa XL order up as I think (hope) that Josef Prusa will come up with an adequate version of his Linear Advance. And did not Josef Prusa start that anyway? Thank you for showing us "the death of 3D printing" and the rise of the new 3D printing era

I feel like ABS has turned into an unwanted thing of the past for so many "makers" out there, that would always just print with PLA or at most PETG, as if those two solved every problem in the world. Oh you need some high temperature material that can withstand impacts and almost doesn't creep? Use this 5x priced PLA blend that doesn't match all properties but you can change your part to suit it or you don't really need it all! ABS is still very useful and I'm glad there's people still thinking about using it.

@@Kalvinjj, I agree, the moment you have a printer that can print ABS, PC, Nylon and ASA without cracking and warping you have found the printer that can do so much more than decorative objects. Explore ultra lightweight filaments, use the power of CF and GF filaments and 3D printing can become a lot of creative fun.

@Kalvinjj 2 жыл бұрын
@@JP-xd6fm That's an extremely overblown misconception. Burning it sure is, but the particle amount from reaching glass transition is far lower, much less at the grams per hour extrusion rates of home printing. It would be a problem at factory levels of injection molding, or maybe a print farm.

That's probably the most complete summary I've seen in a short video in KZbin, great job, you managed to pack in more information as I've seen in videos that are hours long. A small word of advice: LIDAR is pronounced differently, it's pronounced in a similar way as the word "Radar" is, but with the prefix "LI", so like two separate words: LAI - DAR. Just a quick heads up as at first I didn't understand what you meant but then with some context I started to understand.

Holy hell that looks good, once it's out on main sale they need to keep the prices low and by that they will blow away the the "pro market" machines because if I was going to pay 600 to 800 for a machine and this goes for 1000 then it's a no brainer. But and here's the but, what will these be like for maintenance, why aren't more printers coming out with screws in stead of belts for the movement, if it's down to speed they say if a top speed of belt is 500 and screws are 400 who cares because obviously the boards tec are getting better in that it's scanning for optimisation. You will need a mahoosive factory soon to house that print farm 👏👍👍🤭
@GeneralChangFromDanang
@GeneralChangFromDanang Жыл бұрын
Personally, I think belts are smoother. I had a printer with screws on every axis and you just could not get a decent print out of it. There was always some kind of vibration from the screw that would translate to the print.

I have seen multiple reviews on this machine but was so happy to see that you got one to review as you tend to look at areas that other reviewers miss. I dont do Kickstarter as I believe it is gambling and that is something I will never do. I have my money down for a Prusa XL,however, I will weigh up the situation when the XL is launched, It may be the case that I will recover my money from Prusa and buy a retail Carbon X1, I will however wait until the community has used this machine and found any faults or niggles that may be present. I was wondering whether Bamboo Labs will make their tech Open Source or at least licence it although if they keep it in house I can also understand that choice I am looking forward to the next instalations of this review series as this machine is a game changer.

Does it splice like the mosaic or is there a waste tower? Does the company say anything about this being future upgradable - as in adding active heating? The only thing that troubles me are the hotends, or more accurately the nozzles. And I enjoy tinkering with firmware, so that's a bit of a bummer, too. Glad that slicing is open in both directions. Anyway, yes, it has almost every reasonably common feature, some fairly unique ones, and apparently phenomenal performance. All at a fantastic value even at MSRP, let alone at early-bird. I almost hope they don't have an EU warehouse, so I don't get tempted. (Can't find anywhere even addressing this question.) I really, really want this. And I really, really want them to be successful. That said, since it does lack some popular features, I wouldn't say that it beats every machine in the price range you mentioned (for every use case). The AMS sounds great, but such filament changers, IDEX (or more), and toolchangers all have their own pros and cons (a combination of all of these would be perfect, but very expensive and complex a physical setup). I've personally never really needed more than a mid-sized build volume like it has, but still, a large desktop build volume isn't always just for bragging rights, particularly for functional parts. Speaking of usually just to brag, but at times required, a 500°C hotend (for PPSU, PEI, PEEK, PEKK, and probably other industrial materials) is ironically the one feature I could see them providing an upgrade kit for.

Game changer printer. For years, the ~$1000 DIY printers seemed to be the only way to see a convergence of both fast and quality. This blows VzBot, Voron, Ratrig, and all the rest out of the water. 20K mm/s^2 acceleration is the full speed/acceleration setting that Tom Sanladerer’s Voron V2.4 struggled at in his popular Voron V2.4 summary video last year. There he noted skipped steps which prompted him to run at half that in normal daily usage. Yet now here we are finally seeing 20K mm/s^2 in a consumer-first product priced less than a Voron V2.4 with the same accessories (and more) with higher quality and better, consumer friendly ease of use. I predict this product will mark a radical sea change in the DIY community as people move from building DIY printers to buying ready-to-run consumer ones like this. Gone are the days of endless fiddling and tuning of Voron, VzBot and others as the age of the consumer-friendly 3D printer has finally begun.

@karoo_bushman6880
@karoo_bushman6880 2 жыл бұрын
PrusaXL with its toolchanger is a different beast for multicolor.. with this X1 AMS you waste about the same amount of filament on changing as you use for the print.. so 300g print gives about 300g waste, and because you need to purge, you spend around 2x the time on changing color than on printing, so get ready for veeeery long print times. With the PrusaXL it's really made for multicolor/material. Almost zero waste and very fast changing. Printing on PrusaXL is much slower though than this X1, and there is no vibration compensation.. so total print time could still be quite similar, but just with less waste on XL. XL can however also print with different nozzle sizes.. so you could maybe print faster with thicker infills. But X1 is geared for enclosure printing, so if you plan in doing a lot of functional parts with PA or ABS, definitely the X1 will be better, also with smaller build area, faster warming up of enclosure and higher environment temps.

@@karoo_bushman6880 Well, there will be an official enclosure upgrade for the Prusa XL. (Not to be confused with the simple shroud upgrade, which they've shown a bit, but can't be preordered yet, either.) Probably with the same impressive list of features as the one recently revealed for the MK3S (and its predecessors). Maybe a couple more, who knows? Basically it's a case of lower price, higher print speeds, and (optionally) extra strong cooling for the first few layers vs. larger build volume, more versatility (variable nozzle sizes and other tool heads), and less waste per filament change. They both have their place.

Regarding the risk of online sales, buying from trusted online shop reduces risks of not getting your items greatly and gives you leverage if this happens. Meanwhile the risk of Kickstarter are much greater and are made much more aware due to media. But i bet after waiting for a year or 2 this printer will go on sale for comparable prices to the kickstarter prices. So either take a risk now, or don't be on the bleeding edge and wait a year or 2. Waiting also means more mature Software, perhaps even integration of all features in Cura/SuperSlicer. Also we don't know the reliability of the LIDAR Sensors, could be that they have a MTBF of 6 Months or not, so question would be how expensive would be replacement parts and how easy/difficult it would be to install these replacements.

Great video as always Aura just wanted to point out the cost is in USD... So depending on where you live saying it's 1k is not accurate

Would you mind printing the XYZ cubes with anti-vibration on and showing us during the follow up video? I see signs of ringing all over the place.

that is so nice, but i would have to sell half of my machines to even start to consider buying one, any idea how long someone would have to wait b4 they got the printer through kick starter?

I see this printer getting a lot of good reviews all over KZbin, will the multi-filament attachment cost extra? Is the build volume big enough to build a cosplay helmet?
@The_Forge_Master
@The_Forge_Master 2 жыл бұрын
The AMS is an addon that costs extra, and the build volume is a 256mm cube. Not the largest build plate, but you can easily print the helmet in segments and still have it printed way faster than with other printers.

Have you had issues with your Qidi max extruder? Had mine for several years now and the only issue I've had was with the extruder, adjustment springs and not falling completely down in "Z" when finished. Great work on the video! Thank you for the review 😀

I guess they changed many parts from time to time, my extruder may not be the same as yours, it's working fine.

Can we get an update on this? Everything I am reading is that this printer is nice, but loud and wastes a ton of filament. I hope I didn't waste my money ordering the MK3S+ instead of this. Thoughts?

I wish it had a filament drying box for the carbon version instead of the multimaterial AMS thing.

Watching this costs me a small fortune, but seems worth it😊 Can you measure and tell me the outer dimensions of this printer, just the footprint? Not the first printer I can't find any infos about it😛 Great channel btw❤

I’m sorry but I’ve been burned TOO many times on Kickstarters. Never again no matter how good the product and this printer is nice. I’d rather wait for production and pay a higher price.

I tried to back promptly at 1500 UTC (1000 Central) but was met with errors on all rewards, which is still occurring. I tried unsuccessfully for 40 minutes to get the early bird combo for $1000. It left a very bad taste in my mouth for both Kickstarter and Bambu Lab. Extremely disappointing.

This is a KS issue. It has nothing to do with Bambu Lab as they don't have any control over KS systems.

@@6moon.s Yep I mean the LIDAR, that thing would be awesome even if it was useless and it certainly isn't, even tho I've been printing for myself and work for now about 2 years (which I do know isn't ages for sure), I gotta say that fully automatic calibration for 1st layer and linear/pressure advance would be awesome. Just one of those extra nice stuff you think twice before putting money on, but once you have it you got zero regrets.

Considering buying this machine. But after looking at their forum it has so so many problems. Nit to mention they can not even stock their own filament. Might be awhile before they are ready for prime time. Will be nice if they get on top of all the problems though.
