hello! i love your channel, easy, healthy, and tasty recipes. I've tried some of your recipes for my 7m old baby, she loved it. Happy to see her enjoy her meals. One question for this recipe, i cannot get the yellowish color of the puree, twice i tried this banana apple porridge, and both end with purplish ~ brown color.(I was use blender for refine). But for the taste, it's good, no problem at all. Maybe you have some thought to share. Thanks.

Hi! I'm sooooo glad you like the channel and most of all that your baby likes the recipes! Color. the final result is beige/yellowish. The apple gives a white/yellow color and the banana gives a brown color. Mixed together in a proportion of 1:1 they shoud give the beige/yellow color that you see in the video.

@Buonapappa9 жыл бұрын
+Jenifer Gonzalez Hi Jenifer! I used Italian Arborio rice, the same one that I use for risotto as it is very starchy and gets very creamy once cooked. Brown rice is a very good choice for babies (more nutritious than white rice as is less processed), I would suggest it for this recipe too! Ciao, b

You have few options to thaw out the porridge: place it in the refrigerator the night before using it, it will defrost slowly; or, if you do not have time, thaw it in the microwave. Just remember to use containers that can be placed in the freezer and than in the microwave without any harm. ciao! b

sindy enriquez Hi Sindy, Thank you for watching BuonaPappa! The extra porridge divided into small containers with lid can go in the freezer to be frozen for up to 2 months. For freezer I mean the refrigerator compartment/cabinet at a temperature of 32 Fahrenheit (0 Celsius) degrees or less. Ciao! b

Hi BuonaPappa, My baby is two months old. Am just getting familiar and ready as well, when its time for solid food. Can I use the baby food maker to prepare the food? Thanks for all the wonderful tips
@Buonapappa8 жыл бұрын
+Schroeter Alero Hi! you can use a baby food maker to prepare your homemade baby food or just few basic kitchen tools that you might already have: a steamer (either the movable tray or the upper attachment to the regular pan) + a blender (I love the immersion blender as you do not need to move the ingredients to a regular food processor/blender) and some baby food storage containers (I really like the glass or silicone ones). You still have few months to get ready and informed :-) Usually you introduce solid food in your baby's diet at around 6 months. Let me know should you have any more questions!! Ciao!!! b

@Buonapappa10 жыл бұрын
Hi! sorry for the late reply. yes, the color will change, will get darker (brownish). But it will just be a change of color, the taste will be the same and the consistency just a bit more creamy. You can add the apples at the same time. Thanks for watching!! b

Thanks for the great video. Just curious, any reason for choosing to make your own rice cereal vs. store bought? I use an organic brand but concerned about the arsenic content. thanks!
@Buonapappa8 жыл бұрын
Hi! very good question. there are many differences between homemade rice cereal and store bought one. My personal opinion is that the homemade one is healthier as it is not refined, even if it has two down sides: it is not iron fortified and there is no way to add iron at home, so you will need to find other ways to add iron in your baby's diet. Also it takes more time to cook (around 10 min) and when you are in a hurry and the baby is crying having the instant rice cereal ready to use is very convenient ;-) Considering that you are buying an organic store bought baby rice cereal the positive sides are that being certified organic it should come from a good quality rice. Also being ready instantly is very convenient. The down side is that the rice is highly refined. The refining process strips away many nutrients, but these nutrients are added back after the milling of the grain. That's why when you check the ingredients list you will see iron and also other good additives. That being said for my kids I did a mix of homemade baby cereal when I had time and organic store bought one when I hadn't. Arsenic in rice. That's another matter. Some rices can naturally contain arsenic pending the kind of soil they have been grown in. From my researches I found that Californian rice has a minimum amount of arsenic and Italian rice (I'm italian) too. So when I buy the rice to make my own rice cereal I always check where the rice comes from. For the store bought one you should check the company website to check where the rice is grown. Also, consider that you are not feeding your baby with rice cereal only. A balanced diet with a variety of foods will be the best way to avoid any arsenic concern. I hope I was helpful, let me know should you have any more questions! ciao, b

Hello, love your recipes.. I made this and my baby loved it.. But when the color got dark due to banana she stopped eating.. I have stored it in the freezer.. Any suggestion as to how I should defrost it and server her ASAP before it turns dark???
@Buonapappa10 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching! In order to avoid the dark oxidation you can add few drops of lemon juice (only few drops will not affect the taste) before freezing it. You will not prevent totally the banana to get dark, but it will help. If she really doesn't like the brown banana you can try to prepare the recipe without the banana. You can freeze the porridge without the banana and add the banana later when you will serve it to your little one. Hope it helps! ciao! b

For how long can the porridge be kept in the refrigerator or freezer?
@Buonapappa11 жыл бұрын
Hi! If your baby likes it I do not see any issue offering this porridge to him once a day. Just two things to keep in mind: rice+banana might have a sightly stringent effect if regularly taken. Also, you might want to introduce your baby to a variety of different tastes and try some new recipes. ciao ciao! b

Hi! all depends how much time you have :-) if you have time put the container in the refrigerator the night before so that it will be thawed by the following morning. Hi! I am from from Asia. My baby is nearly 6month and I want to start the food for her. I want to ask that, should I start fruit like avocado and porridge together? And if I give her fruits, can I give one day avocado, one day banana or one day carrot?
@Buonapappa9 жыл бұрын
Dary Prak Hi! Thank you for watching BuonaPappa! yes, avocado is a very good option to introduce your baby to solid foods, very rich in good fats and with a creamy and delicate texture that your baby should like. I would simply mash a very ripe avocado with a fork in order to obtain a creamy and smooth consistency. You can always add one teaspoon of either water/breast milk/formula milk to thin the avocado if you see that it is too thick. As your baby is only 6 months, at the beginning she will just want few teaspoons of food. She might even just want to play with it, it's normal and fine. Let her explore and enjoy this new experience! Avocado and porridge works too. Or apple sauce or any other seasonal fruit that you can buy locally. There is a "4 days rule" that a lot of pediatricians recommend: when you introduce a new food in you baby's diet, wait 4 days before adding another new one. This is done to see if there are any allergic reaction to the new food. In your case you can start with avocado for 4 days, than add apple and keep offering either apple or avocado for the following 4 days before adding a third food (carrots or zucchini are great too). The first two weeks might look kind of boring to you as you basically will offer only 3 foods to your little girl, but remember that for her that will be a huge change and novelty. Enjoy those precious moments and take tons of pictures/videos of her first spoons ;-) ciao! b

Hi! you have few options. you can defrost the porridge in the refrigerator. It is a slow process. Usually I put in the fridge the frozen container in the evening and it is thawed by morning. When I need it I heat it again in a small pan on the stove. When I do not have time (or I forget to put it in the fridge in the evening...) I use the microwave in defrost mode. Good but .. Could you please make baby food less than 6 months??
@Buonapappa10 жыл бұрын
Hi Abby! thank you so much for watching. You will see that all the baby recipes start at 6 months as this is when pediatricians recommend to start introducing solid foods in a baby's diet. Before 6 months should be breast milk or formula milk only. Some pediatricians are fine starting at 4 months but only once or twice a day with some fruit puree' (apple is the most common). The reason why is related to the baby's digestive system that before 6 months is still developing and is not ready for any solid food. I hope I was helpful, ciao!! b
@Buonapappa11 жыл бұрын
If your porridge looks more brown than yellow it means that you see more banana. Maybe the banana was bigger than the apple?or the banana was very ripe. Both options are totally fine. if the final taste of the porridge was good and your baby liked it, the color is not a problem at all. ciao ciao, b

Hi Kerry! for this porridge you will need 1/2 cup of white rice not cooked. I'm using the American measurement kit (1 cup, 1/2 cup...) but any regular size mug or cup half filled will be fine. The rice that I used is white rice as it contains a lot of starch that makes the porridge very creamy. ciao ciao, b

All my recipes are meant for babies 6 months up as the Pediatric Association's recommendation is to start introducing solid food at 6 months of age in addition to breast milk/baby formula that should remain the main source of nutrition. For a 5 month baby I would suggest a very delicate homemade apple puree or any seasonal easy to digest fruit you can find locally. Just few teaspoons will be a full meal for your baby! ladyiso Loveissoosweet1 I started introducing solid foods to my kids at 6 months, but if you think that your baby is ready for the new adventure, this is a very simple and delicate recipe perfect for a very first baby food. Let me know if you have any question! ciao, b
