I just make my pudding on the stovetop in a heavy saucepan. You have to stir continuously, but it's much quicker than a double boiler. This looks absolutely terrific. I'm sorry about your mom. You speak of her as if she's still with you and she is. She's in you and around you in everything you do. God bless you, Tammy.

Mom taught me to cook cream pie in a pot on direct heat. Just stir constantly. She used the same basic recipe for butterscotch, chocolate, coconut cream, banana, and her specialty banana, pineapple and coconut combined, she entered it in a Bicentennial pie contest and won. Called it Hawaiian Surprise. She has frozen this concoction and it was good especially after it marinated.

I was very surprised to see the way you made your custard and that you used Flour. My mom used cornstarch & Evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla. She did not use a double boiler but I remember she was stirring and stirring for such a long time. She made her own crust and would pre-bake it and then lay coconut on top, and then add the pudding. She made homemade meringue. It was the lightest cream and the most delicious delicate pie. We all got one piece which was not enough and I thought when I grow up I’m gonna make a whole pie just for myself. Lol.. We were always amazed that it started with a can of evaporated milk. This recipe was from my great grandmother and I’m sure the reason she used evaporated milk was because during the depression fresh milk was hard to come by. It’s interesting to see your version brought back memories. Thank you

Me too. I was an only child and she raised me by herself so she was the only family I had. It's unbearable sometimes because out of nowhere I will smell something or see or hear something and I'm just a mess! You would think after 12 years it would be a little easier but there's just nobody knows how it is until it happens to them. But I know she's in a much happier place than this ole world so it makes Heaven an even sweeter place to look forward to!

Looks delicious! I remember my dear late Mommy used to set on a pretty bar stool and make banana cream pie. She would cook it on medium low for 45 minutes. I would help stir if she had to go do something in another room. She used a flat stainless steel spatula to keep stirring it. She made a huge one in a 9 x 13 pan. Homemade Graham Cracker crust and bananas, with that homemade vanilla pudding. Then put whip cream on top. It was delicious!

I hope you’re feeling better. When I make banana cream pie, I make it in a 9 x 13 inch cake pan and cut it in squares. I make a crust from scratch and cool my pudding. I make it with half and half and heavy cream so its very thick. When it's cooled, I beat it with additional heavy cream so it keeps its shape. I put the bananas on top of the crust, then the pudding and top with more whipped or cool whip extra creamy. People seem to love it. Sometimes I make the crust using peanut butter cookie crumbs. I use whatever I have, ground vanilla wafers, butter cookies, graham crackers. Doesn't matter. It all works.

Tammy, my sweet Mama, who I always called "Dearest", wrote a letter to God everyday. I wish I had one of those letters, but my 2 eldest brothers made sure that 4 of us didn't get one of those letters. I forgave them because I don't hold things in. Incidentally, 44 yrs. ago, my sweet husband taught me to make cheese scrambled eggs in the microwave. They are so good and fluffy. When preparing scrambled eggs, an iron skillet is nice, but a microwave is so much better. Thank you for teaching me about pudding in the microwave. I just love you so much

Y’all we have so much in common! It makes me happy to “meet” a kindred spirit. I’m Bec from 60 miles north of Dallas Texas. Much of your cooking is so similar to my Mommas way of cooking . My mother Ruby Jewel Anderson Hooker was the most wonderful southern cook. She did it with class and I tell you the truth, EVERYTHING she made tasted so good. I know you say most people who are passionate about cooking make wonderful cooks. I am now listening to you read a letter to her momma. 😩💗🙏 I miss my incredible beautiful momma so much more everyday. She really was a Jewel. Lost what I had to say about cooking 🤣 Thank you for bringing us here and for making us feel welcome and in my case like I’m at a Christian Sisters Home. Thank you for the joy and for blessing me by digging me out of my slump. Jesus answers prayers.

When making desserts it can't get any authentic than recipes that come from people from households that learned from generations in the family that have passed onto their children and grandchildren. This lady is a true southerner. He accent is beautiful. She is full of life and a beautiful heart. Not like these modern day bloggers that have strange narratives about their lives. Even though I'm in my 30s I can relate to people from this lady's generation. I watch atleast one recipe on your channel every day while eating my breakfast 🤣😁!

I was wondering where you put the microwave--I haven't seen you using it in recent videos. It must be really inconvenient to have it so far away from the prep & cooking area. When we remodeled our kitchen, I got one built in over the stove and I love it! No more chasing the microwave around the counter (portables are notorious for sliding because they are too lightweight now).

Yummy, My family will love that pie! Funny story, years ago, I was a young girl. My Italian Father. Loved Banana Cream Pie, and cake. We were invited to a family reunion, out of town. My Dad thought he would WOW our family with a Delicious Banana Cream Cake, from a very popular Bakery. We finished our meal, and couldn’t wait to dig into that delicious and pretty cake. One of the first family members to eat the cake, said, “wow”, it’s Delicious, but where’s the Bananas? To my Dad’s embarrassment, the Bakery forgot the BANANAS LOL! Everyone was laughing, and it was the joke of the family throughout the years Dad would love this Real Banana Cream pie, Tammy. Here’s to you Dad, and here’s to you Tammy! May you have the most Amazing Blessed Mother’s Day ever! ❤️🙏🌈😇🌷
