Me and my friend Nicolas ( / atelier_betoux ) made an NES game for the Ludum Dare 32 Jam - 72 hours.
It needs some polish, but we're quite happy with the result nonetheless.
Thanks to bitowl ( / bitowl ) for creating this time lapse of the twitch.tv stream.

This is really neat, cool to see the workflow of someone making an NES game in 2015. What's the story with Super Bat Puncher?

The game looks great and looks like fun! I hope people buy it and not redistribute it for free. Your explanation of "how it was programmed" was amazing. Thanks for sharing!

I want you to know that you can be very proud of the level that you're at. It's very impressive, especially the Bobl && MicroMages videos. You really don't half-ass things hahaha. I have some experience programming in intermediary languages such as JVM and MSIL (i'm implementing my own language using the bytecode pattern). So seeing you program in something as low-level as assembly definitely makes me appreciate what you're doing even more!

Wonder how long did they make this... And even when I read. that manual/tutorial on NES programming, I still don't know how did he memorized everything... old instruction / register / address....stuffs are so hard to remember, even more than more modern asm like GAS or FASM..

I'm sorry but, you are confusing machine documentation (NES vs IBM PC-compatible), instruction set (6502 vs x86) and assembler (stuff like GAS and FASM, I'm not sure which assembler they used here) altogether. They are very different things. If you actually want to be able to make something like this, you have to start learning from there. I don't mean this to hurt you, just informing you. Please understand.

Thank you sooooooo much Morphcat Games! I am just starting out with NES development, did some assembler tutorials over the weekend and was able to create a first NES ROM based on this tutorial: thevirtualmountain.com/nes/2017/03/08/nes-basics-and-our-first-game.html so it is super helpful to see your process and how you code it. I see you are using the CC65 assembler - I am currently starting out with the nesasm based tutorial I've linked.

If there's a glitch in one of the earlier levels, it's because you forgot to do a "CLC" before the "ADC animationAddrL,x". Sorry, can't recall the timestamp...
