I loved the old Banana Republic look. Those catalogs were the best. The clothing was perfect for hot weather.

I agree. BR was established in 1984, not 1884, and it had no role in outfitting the racist douche nozzles who had indigenous guides carrying their overpacked luggage. I like the utility and functionality of the more sturdy line, and I'm wearing as I deal with transportation problems in urban settings. I've never met anyone in the stores who is looking for an elite look while driving a refurbished Ford that Hitler owned.

Here we go with another woke KZbinr. Hey internet, go cancel Banana Republic because they’re offensive 🙄

While history can not be changed. Should we boycott Mercedes Benz? I appreciate they romanticized some past elements, but it’s different than what it used to be The fantasies of global adventure, and the diversity of models really make it today. It makes it different than any other big box brands

This is honestly a bunch of crap. Getting offended over safari gear is a you problem and just shows privileged privileged people truly are nowadays.

Love the new BR look. What it invokes for me is adventure, travel, and intrigue.

The company is just adding a whimsical adventure vibe back into their clothes to pull it away from a drab workwear aesthetic. Maybe they should change their name. But I don't see how selling shirts and pants with more pockets is inherently offensive.

While I appreciate your opinion, they have not rebranded as "colonial wear". But rather, as the things I have always appreciated... travel friendly, adventure, exploration wear. I LOVE travel. I love ALL cultures. I LOVE getting out of my comfort zone. (Try it.) I am happy about the rebranding as "on-trend" "office wear" is a dime a dozen. Anyone who has been a traveler and who ENJOYS different cultures and other aspects of travel, can now benefit from this product and brand.

GET OVER IT. !!! EMOTIONAL DISPLAY IS NOW PRIVILEGED OVER SELF-COMMAND, CHANGING THE KINDS OF PEOPLE AND ARGUMENTS THAT ARE TAKEN SERIOUSLY IN PUBLIC LIFE. STOP LIVING A LIFE IN THE PAST OF WHICH YOU WERE NOT A PART OF. GET A LIFE THAT IS PRESENT. MOVE FORWARD NOT BACKWARD.

This vid convinced me to become a Banana Republic customer for the first time in my life. Brown skinned American living in SoCal btw

I just returned from the UK and I saw very few white people and those brown folks were speaking British English and wearing British clothing, I think you got even. Hell their PM was from India.

I agree. I'm so disappointed in the esthetic changes. My entire wardrobe was BR, but for the past 2 years, I've literally bought fewer than 5 pieces. Such a disappointment.

To me, the original and current BR merchandise evokes ADVENTURE and a bit of escapism. BR doesn’t purposely make a political statement. BR’s roots are 2 people, around 1978, who wanted to be self-employed and have richly creative work. Their products were sold word-of-mouth; later by mail-order catalogs. They produced the catalogs: their drawings, their descriptions written like mini stories. Their merchandise was forgotten military surplus found ‘round the world. Buttons were changed. Trim and patches were added. Etc. I enjoy and use the pockets in my cargo pants and jackets. Only at airport security are pockets inconvenient ! The work/career clothes of higher quality materials came from the purchasing company of BR’s aesthetic and stores. BR sells clothes. Assigning meaning to civilian/street clothes is taught/learned. Is the lesson accurate ?

This makes a whole lot of since because its there take on the utilitarian trend in fashion that has happened there simply answering the question using the history of the brand like if you didnt like where they started from then why are you even keeping track of them you acting like a crazy ex gf just let it go. If you dont like the fact the brand started as a safari aesthetic brand and if that particularly offends you then dont shop there why even keep track of there up coming releases its clearly not the store for you if it offends you just as how im not gunna shop at nike or any of those garbage names bc im offended they they sell garbage to there custumers over charge and destroy the enviroment in doing so but you dont hear me bringing up the obvious its called consumer choice for a reason if you dont like something dont buy it simple as that you dont need to try to end a brand or business just bc you dont like them its such a selfish and close minded thought process its quite disturbing and it part of whats wrong with this world now adays

sooo again your culture remembers one thing and has the perspective of that. where white culture sees them self as indiana jones so just bc your culture has one perspective doesnt mean its the only perspective im sure there plenty of other perspectives like the tourist aesthetics, ect.. this videos pretty odd bc you spent so much time getting such a simple idea across and im still waiting for the other half of this thought but it never happened
