I've done this move a lot in training. You really have to apply it slowly. Its not a flexibility thing. You're literally stretching the legs in a direction they're not supposed to go. Glad to see the guy released it immediately after realizing his opponent was in pain

This is an amazing submission because when you release the hooks and triangle hook one leg, the opponent is automatically going to think you're going for a twister and he'd be ready to defend it. And the next he knows he's doing a spready to the skys lol

In wrestling, we call that the spladle. Usually after opponent shoots for a single leg takedown and you let them take your leg, setting up for you to grip one of the opponent leg, while you reach over their body to grab their other leg with your arms. But don't pin yourself in the process, because your back is down too. I have seen that done when I went to High School in Black River Falls lol

It's EXTREMELY painful. Probably the most painful technique in jiu jitsu. The pain goes away the moment they release so it's not something you'll feel the next day(unless you were hyper extended because it got put on too fast or you didn't tap out right away) but when you're in it, the pain is unbearable.
