For the first time in a year, we thought we could meet you all, those of you who could come to see us, but we can’t meet you in the end. I’m sorry. Even though it’s not my fault. We have been having days of turmoil for about a year. In the beginning, we were very surprised because we hadn’t experienced it before, and we had no experience of not being able to meet others in person. We were sad, but we found we shouldn’t be sad in this situation. When I saw you masters and princesses on social media, you were more depressed than us, and we thought that’s too bad. We Band-Maid have been thinking about how to cheer up all of you in the last one year. Regarding the references to home. Normally when you enter a maid cafe you will be greeted with "Welcome home master"(if you are a guy). If you look at video descriptions on their KZbin channel, they all say “Welcome home,masters & princesses”. Miku uses this greeting all the time during shows and interviews. When this song was released she posted on Twitter "Listen to this song until the day when we can say "Welcome back" and "I'm home" again."

It is genuine. This band was on the verge of disappearing at the time when the "Thrill" MV came out. They were playing in these small venues and trying to gain traction. The "Thrill" MV blew up and we all know the subsequent history. They know struggles. They've been there. And that' why they really do appreciate their fans. And it's why they still work so hard. Kanami alone has hundreds of songs still yet to be recorded. MISA said she will start writing songs. They really are a special band.

It´s not my jam, but i still like this song, because of the meaning of it and because i know it´s honest and genuine from the maids. Like you have seen on the online serving... SAIKI spoke on her own with the fans and we know she is normally more distant etc., because that´s her nature. That was also really emotional. And that they mentioned our picuture we gifted them right before the onlineshow. You can see they love their fans a lot, so if they bring an track out that´s not really my thing, but there is a message like this behind it, i still like it. It´s not always the rhythm, the genre or whatever, sometimes it´s just about the feelings or the heart of an song, that´s the case right here!

Thanks for bringing that up. It was always my understanding this was nothing but genuine but it still needs to be said out loud. While I was glad to have watched the online concert they performed this song, it KILLS me that it was meant to be played to their first live audience since pandemic. I don’t even see how it would have been possible for Saiki to perform this without being a ball of emotion. They didn’t have to make this song but I’m sooooo glad they did.

Actually this song is not on the physical copy of Unseen World, this song they wrote to perform at the Budokan, but since they cancelled that show they performed it at the last okyu-ji on February 11th, and it is written for the fans.

Great reaction. Miku (and probably with help from the other members in the band) truly penned beautiful heart felt lyrics that all of us can relate to as well. Their music is so powerful sometimes the lyrics get lost but I've really come to notice how incredible Miku is at writing great lyrics. I love this song because, although Miku has written some amazing insightful lyrics, this is a first from Band Maid that has touched me. Although I have never seen them, it made me feel appreciated. By the way Champ, on a lighter note, I was washing dishes while watching your video. I missed something that you said because some notifications were sounding. I decided to replay some parts that I missed. My fingers were a little slick from the soap and I accidentally turned down the playback speed to about 2.5 (I think). Did you catch the livestream concert? They somehow managed to make it even better with the live arrangement. This isn’t the extra song on Unseen World. That would be “Youth” (Pop rock with very heavy instruments) and “Without Holding Back” (instrumental). They didn’t release “about Us” with the album because... it was supposed to be debuted at heir Budokan live as a surprise? That’s what they say anyway. Also it is a complete 360 in style from the rest of the album so not sure how some people would have processed it. Kanami used lots of sampling for this song too although it had a lot more love elements when they performed it on stage. Edit: about Us is on Spotify but as a single.

I've heard a lot of criticism regarding this song. Mostly, they're comparing it to Start Over and feel this is too poppy for them. A lot remark how this wouldn't fit in with the new album (though there's another faction that was hoping for a song like this to break up the pace of Unseen World). Personally, I like it a lot. Maybe my younger self would share the aforementioned criticisms but thankfully, I'm more open to a variety of music in my current older self.

I do really enjoy this song, and the lyrics made me tear up a bit. I think what you mentioned is a big part of why I support and enjoy them so much. They just feel genuine. Like they wrote this song and played it at their live online concert they had recently, and you just feel like they really mean it. It's not just something they did because they're trying to cash in or that they wanted to capitalize on how screwed up the world is right now. It's like they really wanted to communicate this message because they feel it and they know everyone else is feeling it as well.

this one has a bit of the Start Over feel. with some of the play with other sounds(start over had the jazz feel, but you can hear where Misa is as well). they used that sound effect often found in rap/pop(with the synth). NOT on the album, they wrote this for the reunion with the fans in mind(Budoukan). even though we couldn't see them in person, they still think of their fans. you can tell its from the heart.

If you want to hear a ballad from them, you should listen to Daydreaming and Endless Story. But since you're a Metal Musician/Composer, you MUST listen to UNLUCKY MORPHEUS. Another freaking good japanese band. I don't to spoiler you, but if think that "Black Pentagram" is a good way to know them. Then, go to "CADAVER/REVADAC". In a "creative" way, it's their best music. (Or, you can start with "CADAVER/REVADAC", no problems hahaha)

@@lurkmerchant I just realized now that I didn't list Anemone in my earlier comment lol. Literally one of my favorite songs by them. The 'short solo' after the first chorus was something that I didn't expect when I listened to it the first time.

Saiki had a bit of a monologue before they played this at the recent online show. i could pick out bits of what she was saying, then the tune started up and i melted into my chair. always love MISA and Akane's work on the ballads.. they keep busy, but it always fits. recommend checking out Anemone off World Domination if you haven't yet kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5mTe3eaeMyNmdU someone correct me if i'm wrong.. but aren't the more poppy/ballad type songs what Kanami was more into writing before BAND-MAID? i'd bet she's got a ton of em sitting on HD's at home

I didn’t understand the song at first, but then they would play it live and I felt everything, because I realized when Saiki introduced it, it was about what I didn’t know before. I listen to it again, and like it.

Yuki & Sin, the Japanese reactors, made a great point: while as Champ says, Band-Maid is still doing Band-Maid things by cramming a lot of instrumental stuff in there, they did really expand the soundspace - which not only gives the whole song a really epic feel, but leaves space for the lyrics to take center stage. Which clearly worked, given the number of weather-beaten rock fans out there who confess to wiping their eyes when listening to it.
