Kanami went to a guitar store and when she left the guitars gently wept. Miku and Saiki went to the horse race and the horses stopped and bowed to them. Misa's fans created a rock and roll hall of fame chant , Misa Misa Misa ; that became Japan's new national drinker's toast. Akane met Jimmy Page and he told her she reminded him of John Bonham.

When you read the English lyrics you see that Miku has written a biography about the band's past and what they want to do from here on. Very clever writing. I don't know how Miku keeps on popping out hit after hit. She's a hidden gem in the songwriting world.

Just listened to the entire Unseen world album and I'm speechless it's just sublime amazing there aren't enough adjectives to praise it. Misa's Bass solo on No god jaw dropping, no one bad filler track...I still seek revenge is my early fave then Why WHY Why. These Ladies are Important in the sense they are keeping guitar based rock alive. It's crazy I "Discovered" them June 2019 and There hasn't been a day I haven't listened to at least one of their songs. Kanami is simply a compositional genius. Long may they reign.

So this song is literally a bridge song for Band-Maid. It bridges their sound from the earlier albums (Just Bring It, Maid in Japan, and World Domination) and mini-albums to Conqueror and their new sound on Unseen World. This song is so sick on some many levels. You have Miku getting some crazy bends (as you noted), Kanami riffing in a great delta blues style, Saiki's vocals hitting like a velvet covered fist, Akane just killing the toms and floor tom with some crazy fills... and then MISA basically soloing the entire last 2/3s of the entire song. This song really highlights both MISA and some amazing work from Miku on her background vocals (that "ah, ah, ah" melts me) and some stellar guitar fills from the bends to the pick slides. A real good Japanese interpretation of a blues-rock song (not stoner rock, ;))

That bridge right after the high energy solo is the very definition of “playing less for more”. The way they spaced it out and didn’t let it drop down until the chorus came in caught me completely off guard. I don’t recall them ever doing something like that. It also added much more punch to the chorus followed by an outro style that was similarly never done before. Just for those alone and the absolute groove magnet this song is, Manners managed to get a slight edge as my top pick over H-G-K which imo is the overall best of this album esp. in the songwriting aspects.

It's a ghost story in a deserted house, and also a celebration of what will be neverending. That's why the visitor's hand explores so tenderly in the dust. The "Ahahahah" in such a deep voice and the mysterious reaching hands are from ghost stories too. The sepia-toned Miku and Saiki on the veranda, the way Saiki moves against the photo of the others, then all vanish .... the mysterious guitarist on the stairs, the indeterminate sound of water ...... if you try hard enough, you will break through to the unseen world and live forever through the strength of your creations in this life. Or something. I still can't quite gloss the title ...... Manners ....... respect for the elders, perhaps?

We're thinking the digital album might have been released early because their big career-milestone-making holy-venue-Budokan concert was just cancelled. the online concert felt like there was a little bit of lag or something in the beginning but sounded great and synced in the 2nd half. also, perhaps worth adding is that Different was mostly written quite a while back, like 2018/2019?, while the new album was in 2020. Someone mentioned the other day that Different isn't on the album (It's a Single and in Japan it's pretty common for Singles to not be on Albums since people used to actually buy Singles here) so it's worth considering it relative to other songs but doesn't fit into any specific album song order. When you eventually finished reacting to band made videos, I might be interesting to hear your impressions going through entire albums (like perhaps skipping through segments of each track and giving your thoughts on the album as a whole including how the songs might fit together rather than the individual song on its own... then again, you could probably do the same thing for their Feb 2020 live concert DVD/BD since that set list pulls from a lot of different albums in a set that they hadn't done before until those final 2 days of the tour)

I have been watching a lot of early venues,Germany, Paris, etc. These aren't worthy of reactions due to single source sound and video but... It was their interaction with audiences and vice versa that really made Misa's public drinking in concerts a "thing." At that point, for background, in a TV interview, the hosts asked each of them about her "charm point" which is a cafe-maid thing. Akane said she has a bottomless appetite. I think that was also when she said she could eat 30 bowls of noodles. Then it was Misa, and she slightly smirked and said she drinks. They asked her favorite and she said whiskey, straight up. The flamboyant middle aged guy who was a guest co-host at the moment was very impressed. Next European tour, they were in Germany, Misa walked onstage and saw a still sealed bottle of Jim Beam honey whiskey sitting on top of her amp. Everybody was watching to see what she would do. She picked it up, smiled at the audience, opened it and took a couple of chugs, recapped it and grabbed her bass. Time to let loose. Some legends are just stories, some legends are real. Misa is for real. They all are, and that is a big part of why they are so loved.

I think it's good to see them starting to put English CC in their newer videos. The embedded onscreen subtitles burned into the video is half English half Kanji which may not fully satisfy a viewer who only knows English, which is why they now have the option for the formal lyrics using the CC button. Since BM seems to be getting more attention, they have started providing these subtitles, first with Dragon Cries, then Different & now this. Perhaps there is more of an awareness by them & their management that their popularity is increasing globally. Past videos from their official channel did not have CC. You could get it from a third party KZbinr who edited it in, of course, if it hasnt gotten blocked or whatnot.

@7:04 a tribute to the album cover ;) reminded me a lot of the Dragon Cries song(that 70s-sh era feel) in regards to the album, track order may differ depending on which version of the album you get @ limited edition, 1st print, regular version unfortunately due to the widespread corona in Japan, and the new lockdown, they had to cancel their Budokan debut(the most prestigious venue in Japan). in place, they released this music video and pushed up the digital release of the new album to tomorrow in Japan.

While it is 'Different' to anything you have reacted to by them, it is similar.....especially at the beginning....to 'The Dragon Cries'....not one of their more popular tracks....but Manners is a step or two up from that. It was produced by Tony Visconti, so something of a change for them, but it only has half the views of the tracks either side on their channel....I really liked it though and it is much better live. The hands moving in on the MV refer to the new album cover for Unseen World. Great review as always :)

Great song, I can't wait to get my hands on the new album. Also check out: Nemophila - they formed just last Feb but already have some great tracks(Raitei & Sorai stand out for me) as well as some awesome covers (Iron-maiden, Linkin Park & more).

Band Maid said in an interview that they had two philosophies when writing this new album. The first being them wanting to get back to their roots insofar as asking themselves "what would our early songs like Thrill been like if we had written it", that's kind of the category where this song falls to me. The second philosophy was something along the lines of pushing the envelope and challenging themselves be it vocally or through more complex musical arrangements etc, that's where a song like After Life falls where Kanami is doing more of the sweeping and tremolo picking. edit: found the interview again kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHzZgmZqj76Hb6M

The first word that came to mind when I heard this was "roots," so they definitely got that across in this piece!

The 2 philosophies is correct, but After Life is the 1st song in the Roots section!

Thats exactly what I thought when I first heard this that this would have been what Thrill would be if they wrote it today.

@Crossbone Cipher Yeah i ve noticed a Evolution in Band Maid pretty much every Band Maid Member gets better and better with every Album. I am blown away that they could Top Conqueror in complexity, Especially Akane s and Miku Evolution as musicians blows me away. Knowing that Miku didnt Play guitar in 2014.

Love this song is just so chill.. For the online concert i know Saiki in particular feeds of the crowd and i think it was all of them being nervous and a lack of crowd just took them a song to get in the groove.. And possibly nerves from knowing it want just one audience it was literally a world wide audience
