Good afternoon Drum Nerds, hope you're swell! Please enjoy BAND MAID - AFTER LIFE - DRUMMER REACTS
Much the same as other Band Maid tracks, this has excellently constructed parts (but focusing mainly on the DRUMS) The use of the same fill and or a fill made the same way but using different sonic voices (toms) perfectly expresses how intelligent and well thought out these parts are.
It pulls the listener through the song with ease and makes for a very enjoyable listen, leaving some unsure why they love it and enjoy it, the subtlety is real!

I do love listening to Akane on the drums. She never over powers a song or shows off. Everything is there to enhance the music. It is a collaborative writing style that allows the musicians to suggest what works for them and when they need to be stretched. But Akane just does it with style. Often at the end of gigs the band will gather around her while She makes an attempt to catch them out with missed beats until the crashing finale. Simplicity works but then complicated and fast works too.

In the extended versions of the Unseen World album (CD+DVD or CD+BR) there is a wonderful vid of Akane alone in this song - you can really se what she is doing - and it looks so effortles and relaxed.

I always love your reactions because they are different that anyone else's. And because you focus on Akane, my favorite drummer. Thank you for your efforts. This is one of my favorites and I find it amazing how well they do this live. I heard this live in Dallas. It was amazing.

During their recent show recorded at the Tokyo Garden Theater, I noticed that Akane has added (what I, who don't play drums think is) a splash cymbal, but I didn't notice any specific points when she used it.

On KZbin somewhere a wonderful chap has isolated the drums in this song. When you listen to it she is basically doing a drum solo throughout the entire song. One of my fav BM songs (with 120 others) with Akane doing brilliant things. Check out 'Hate?' as well when you can - some serious drumming on that track (we need to start counting her limbs). One of (if not the best) rock drummer i've ever heard.

Is there 'life after' Band-Maid? Maybe. But it won't be the same. And I'd miss my aching 9 year smile. Miku's "after life" came once she quit the maid café thing and started Band-Maid. Thank you Miku! And thank you D-Nerd, for bringing Band-Maid to your great viewers!

Its NEVER linear.......its Akane......her subdivisions have subdivisions......although the basic structure (snare, ton, snare, tom) was revisited, and had an air of repetition, the count was always different......

Akane always brings it hard and fast. She rides her "splash" cymbal like it's a hi-hat quite a bit and it's a great fill because it sustains/fills much better than a hi-hat. Wait til you hear "From Now On" instrumental they released just a few months ago. Be sure to be rested before that react, you'll need to be alert.

I'm not a drummer and I know who Bernard Purdie is! lol - played for a huge number of songs for a huge number of bands. AKANE is that list of great drummers as well.

@@Metal_Auditor KANAMI uses PRS guitars because she is a bigger fan of CARLOS SANTANA. She also likes the light weight with the Les Paul sound of the Custom 24. AKANE uses Tama Starclassic Bubinga drums with Zildjian cymbals with DW 9002 Double Pedal and her own Wincent Akane Hirose Signature Sticks. @@joeking6763 I am not a drummer, and I do know that Santana is Kanami’s favorite, but during their livestream with Herman Li, she also mentioned Paul Gilbert, Larry Carlton, and Richie Kotzen as influences. I’m a beginner guitarist, and once I get better at it, I plan to buy myself a PRS S2 Custom 24-08 (a cheaper version of one of the models Kanami uses).
