Band BIO
The band formed in July 2013. Singer/guitarist Miku Kobato, formerly an employee of a Japanese maid café, envisioned forming a band that juxtaposed the maid image with rock music. Kobato recruited lead guitarist Kanami Tōno after an Internet search. Tōno had performed as a singer-songwriter and suggested her occasional backing drummer Akane Hirose for the new band. Hirose in turn suggested bassist Misa, with whom she had attended music school. On July 24, 2013 they had their first live performance at the PP Audition held at Osaka Deep, as a quartet with Kobato on vocals.The band then decided to recruit an additional lead singer and selected Saiki Atsumi during auditions. Their first performance as a five-piece was at the P Festival at Shibuya-AX on August 22, 2013.
Early in their history, Band-Maid regularly performed live at various venues around the Tokyo area. The group released their debut mini-album Maid in Japan in January 2014, written in collaboration with musicians Masahiko Fukui and Kentaro Akutsu (the latter formerly of the musical group Zero). In August 2014, they released the maxi-single "Ai to Jōnetsu no Matador" (titled "Love, Passion, Matador" internationally). In November 2015 they released their sophomore mini-album New Beginning.The album was their first chart placement, reaching No. 64 on the Japanese Oricon weekly albums chart.The band undertook a tour of Tokyo venues to promote the album through February 2016, culminating in a sold-out concert on February 14.
In March 2016 they had their first overseas performance at Sakura-Con in Seattle, Washington.The group released their third mini-album and major label debut, Brand New Maid, in May 2016 on the Nippon Crown sub-label Crown Stones and JPU Records overseas. That album reached No. 19 on the Japanese Oricon weekly albums chart. In October and November 2016, they went on their first world tour that took them to Mexico, Hong Kong, and six countries in Europe.
In January 2017, Band-Maid released their first full-length album titled Just Bring It. It was preceded by the single "YOLO," released in November 2016. Just Bring It reached No. 16 on the Japanese Oricon weekly albums chart.[26] Band-Maid appeared at the 2017 Golden Melody Awards and festival in Taiwan on June 23-24 The maxi-single "Daydreaming/Choose Me" was released in July 2017. They covered "Honey" for the November 2017 Mucc tribute album Tribute of Mucc -En

LOVE you guys enthusiasm. After listening to Unseen World several times through I think it is now my #1 favorite album and I am 58. The skill & courage of this band is just astounding. I think what strikes me most is the apparent lack of personal ego & that they really care about how the fans experience the shows/music. This Band cares about their fans as more than an income stream and it shows in every thing they do. I posted a simple message on the live "Warning" video they just dropped and I mean it with all my heart; Please, Bandmaid; never stop!

The ladies absolutely slay on this song.I grew up on 60s - 70s music. Band Maid is on par with any hard rock group from any era. Akane just went wild with the drum fills, frenetic yet under control at the same time. Kanami and Misa are also next level. Saiki and Miku power through the wall of sound with their beautiful voices. One of the best hard rock songs ever ! Great review, great reaction.

That was fun, very, very fun! Thanks! Actually this song falls under the “Roots” section of Unseen World, which is supposedly their signature, hard-ish riff-heavy songs, but updated to show their current musical capability. The other Half of Unseen World falls under “Progress / Evolution from present”, which would be the actual “different” stuff from band-maid. Songs that they will experiment in and challenge themselves with. No one actually knows what songs those will be yet, but some of the less “signature” songs from Conqueror may be some indication (Wonderland? Mirage? Flying High?)

Yep you got that right. I've been looking at the hands on the cover. At first I thought they represented corals, but now I've had this weird idea. What are you feeling? Dunno, but while we joke about your favorite Band-Maid song being the last one you listened to, they really do have that effect on you. I like that they mix it up, so I'd never want all hard and fast all the time, nor would I like all poppier stuff or all power ballads - they mix it up, and between that and the fact that their arrangements are so layered and complex, you just never tire of hearing them. Band-Maid? You just keep being you!

I really LOVE the new stuff, but Puzzle is gonna still be my favorite... It´s hard to choose a favorite, but that was the song that got me into Band-Maid and i was like: DAMN! I´ve NEVER heard something like this before and they wrote it by themselves? WOW! So it´s hard to top that "experience" and i still just adore this song. Now to your reaction: That was fun... Really nice to see how much you are enjoying these exceptional bunch of musicians. You are really getting energized by hearing their music. The DVD will have MV of a few songs (instrumentals only) showing Kanami, MISA, Akane and Miku playing (one video per person and one combined version). Similar to Dice, Domination and Onset videos that came with Conqueror. Don’t think there will be acoustic versions. However we won’t know if one of the new songs actually is an acoustic song. That may be possible.

This one reminds me of the tracks "Shake That" and "Freezer" from their second album. Neither track had a video, or even a decent live clip (even before the great purge) but audio clips are out there. Freezer has some great back and forth vocals between Saiki and Miku, but I'd give 'Shake That' the edge overall.

That's why some people say Akane sounds like a male drummer. It's not normal for a lady (a small and thin lady, ha) to play like that. Of course you've got Nao from Maximum the Hormone, and she's a beast! Akane not only has that power and technique, but also the cleanliness in her sound you mentioned.

You guys you spoke about Akane's drumming, she can play, as Jimmy Page the guitarist for LED ZEPPELIN ask to speak to Akane after a concert in Japan. Akane thought she was being pranked. With the other song DIFFERENT Kanami said she had this song in her archives and brought out the song to match an anime they were ask to create for 2 years ago. That was from a post Miku and Kanami had on KZbin.

The riffs in After Life actually remind me of some riffs in Brand New Maid. Even though this falls under their ‘Roots’ album, it feels somewhat fresh. Band Maid only needs a few songs in odd time signatures and they’ll attain full progressive status, though I wouldnt mind if they keep playing in common time

awesome song! but still - again - the sound mix on the studio version :/ The instruments are fine, but Miku and Saiki sound way too close to each other. In the live performance you could really hear the clear difference between them. The backing vocals and melodies just enhance it much more. A couple of people already mentioned that Miku scream - it came out of nowhere and was executed flawlessly. And that doesn't mean - yeah Miku here, Miku there, Miku this and Miku that - but it really does support Saiki that much more. It's the difference between both of them that I'm after... So yeah it was an awesome performance on their live serving. My expectations for the new album are through the roof. And Kanami smiling happily and full of enthusiasm announcing "We got better!" - which you believe without a doubt just by watching her saying that...

I agree that they sounds very close to each other, but there tones are very similar. I am sure she is singing in relaxed form. Where on stage when doing both your tone changes up a bit.
