Nice analysis as always😀 I am always impressed how Kanami utilizes slide noises as a part of their arrangement (just before the guitar solo in this song) I think she is only using E minor pentatonic + b5th in this solo, but the phrasing and the effect added makes it so unique. One thing about the slides. You can see some other Japanese musicians use slides quite a bit. I have wondered how much this might relate to tradition sounds, such as you would see from shamisen players. Hey Jack...I was the one that sent you the Patreon DM about this song. Thanks for giving it a go! A few thoughts: - BM's B Sides are almost always just as good (if not better) than the A Sides. They never "mail it in" when recording/producing a track. The other B Side "Hibana" is an excellent straightforward (for BM) rocker that was written for a Rainbow 6 tourney. - You are spot on about Kanami loving her slides. It is abit of a trademark and she gets quite an array of sounds from slides. In fact I didn't realize that bumblebee sound was done with slides until your demo. - What was the genre that you mentioned of the intro vocal style? I couldn't pick up the 1st word...it was "something bop". Thanks and hope your cold gets better.

No problem dude, cheers for pointing me towards this one! I really should check out Hibana as well. I think it's actually City Pop; which I've always misheard as City Bop. Excellent reaction, as usual! I really love the work you're doing, Jack! As per this song being a B-side, Kanami said on an interview that she let the singers (Saiki and Kobato) choose which would be the B-side to Sense and then got worried that they had picked the best song possible. 😄 And I agree, Corallium right away became my favourite song! Something about the vocal work on this is so satisfying. Plus the guitar solo intertwined with a beautiful bass line as the drums slow down to quarter speed. This band cannot stop getting better and better, it seems. The lyrics to this are the first written entirely by Saiki, by the way. 😉

In this case, their singles have a very specific, outside of the band, purpose. Thanks for making your "lessons" accessible to those of us who can strum three chord change songs but lack any real formal musical instruction. To answer your rhetorical question the genre is Band-Maid. I think giving Band-Maid music, specifically Kobato-Tono songs, are close to emerging as an unique form of rock notwithstanding the fact that they have borrowed heavily from the past and yet still manage to make it their own. Since the release of Alone their music is their music. Beyond producer Mincho there is no record company producer trying to influence their sound. Kanami is that person. What sets Corallium apart from other Band-Maid authored tunes is this is Saiki's first individual songwriting credit. This is Atsumi-Tono as opposed to Kobato-Tono. That's a first. Someone else pointed out here the difficulty that exists for writing a dedicated tune for a TV producer, for example, who already has a vision about what he or she expects. That precondition doesn't exist when you are simply writing for you and your band. Sense was commissioned for an anime. Hibana was commissioned for a sporting concern as their anthem and fight song. Coral is used as a gem stone. Usually red coral and this song is an understated gem itself. Thanks for what you do. Sacramento loves Band-Maid.

Great to hear that Robert, I do try to walk a line between making the musics stuff accessible enough fro most folk, but also hopefully dipping in to more complex music and production elements.
