I don't know whether anyone has mentioned this, but to me the riff and the swing of this, as well as 'Sense', have an Eastern European feel. The Ukrainian dance tradition sometimes called Shumka -- usually translated as 'whirlwind' -- has the same reckless, relentless swirling energy, with no half-notes or whole-notes, just bank after bank of eighths, sixteenths and thirty-seconds with their tails and dots.

Hola Champ, In my opinion, everyone talks about the skills and capacities of BAND MAID. These are facts but I think that one of the key factors of the band is the management of intangibles such as perception, emotion, the unexpected, feelings, pulses and sensations. They have a sum of ethereal factors that are key in their music. These intangibles cannot be measured and therefore cannot be replicated. There won't be anybody like them for a long time. The music of BAND MAID is organical and palpitating and that is the real dimension so, while their alive, sweating music, with blood in their veins and the heart beating with dreaming souls riding the horizon... they will not fail ever. They are dreaming riders galloping with the soul, and you can feel it in Akane, Kanami, Miku, Misa and Saiki while they are expanding the Japanese Sun and Rain worldwide. The musical drops of rain that they bring, even when the sun is shining, are love hearts. It is a contradiction? No, because it's not only about rock, it's about life. The signature of BAND MAID

Wonderful reaction vid. Interesting to me that you mention Black Hole, because this song did not give me Black Hole vibes - other than perhaps Akane's relentless kick. Corallium to me felt a lot more melodic, and a whole lot less chaotic, than Black Hole. So glad you spotlighted the vocals, as the vocal melodies and how they wove in and out of the music are what I loved about this song from the start. Everything in this song (from the powerful drumming, to the sensuous vocals, to the interesting dual Misa-Kanami solo) just fit together so beautifully and fresh to me. One of my all-time favs by the band.

We are reaching pop punk levels of octave riffs between the most recent album and this 3 track single. Though this riff is really quick, is pretty progressive, and has a bit of tremolo picking thrown in because Kanami is weird like that. I also think that the transition riff between the end of the first chorus going into the second verse has Kanami using a pitch shifter to make her guitar sound more synth like because she does that a lot but I'm just taking a guess there as I dont have the worlds best ear for tone. I agree that this song is peak band maid. Its super catchy in the chorus but is still a bit experimental, with strong guitar riffs and bass licks, Akane abusing her drum kit, and great use of vocal harmony to show off both singers talents. They have been dipping their toes in the waters of prog metal and speed metal lately and I'm all for it.
@pak40l463 жыл бұрын
No such thing as pop/punk. It is classic/hard rock, pure and simple. With all the metal junk out there, it's good to listen to some good old rock and roll again.

Superb reaction Champ as ever. There is nothing like Corallium out there right now, Band Maid is surely cementing a unique, signature sound. "Outside the Band Maid world" is a sad phrase but you're right on there, worldwide recognition is overdue. However, Akane had a special encounter in the past. None other than the great Jimmy Page a few years ago was checking out some concerts in Tokyo and saw BM. Was instantly impressed by the whole band's musicianship but especially singled out Akane and after the show asked her to get their photos taken together!!! He said when he heard her play he felt like the reincarnation of John Bonham. ...I don't think one could get bigger credit in life as a drummer and she was truly humbled.

I always felt that this song had elements of both Manners and Sense.... especially manners. The guitar riff actually reminds me of Miku laughing in the lyrics (ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah). Nevertheless, it's still an awesome song. I suppose Sun Tzu put it really well when he says "There are not more than five cardinal tastes (sour, acrid, salt, sweet, bitter), yet combinations of them yield more flavors than can ever be tasted..."
