Band-Maid is one of the most unified bands around. Each of them are supremely talented musicians and each of them contribute to the songs they make. You can't remove one pillar from this band without it all coming down; and nobody stands out far beyond the rest. Not one of them is there to outshine the others; they're there as a unit. If there's one thing you need to know about BAND-MAID it's never ever talk during a solo. The second thing is BAND-MAID are Musician's Musicians, and they will recreate the recording at a bare minimum. They play to backing tracks for just that reason. But that doesn't mean that they won't add additional solos to that. 'Domination' is a prefect example. If you want to see the only song with a full drum solo check out 'Freedom' LIVE from this same concert. BAND-MAID fans are called Maidiacs.

Hey Jules, spot on analysis. That whole breakdown/solo section was added for the live version. And in the studio versions they tend to push the second vocal way down in the mix making it a lot less multilayered and interesting. But their process of songwriting and building up the studio version part by part does contribute to the complexity and interplay of the parts. As you heard, the transitions are often brilliant. The lead guitar, Kanami, is the songwriter and she goes through a process of getting input from everyone for the final demo miix. The second vocal/rhythm guitar is the lyricist. So when they get together to work up the full band, live version, they have an amazing song to start with. As good as they are on their instruments (and they often hold back), it's the songwriting that sets them apart. You'll see that as you dive down the pigeon hole. (Note, they didn't write some of their early songs like Thrill.)

The KZbin algorithm brought me to this performance video on their channel immediately after having watched Thrill. Since then between KZbin, KZbin reactions and the copy I own on Blue ray i've legitimately watched this performance dozens upon dozens of times. Yet no matter how many times I watch this Live version of Domination at Line Cube Shibuya, seeing Miku's Twin Tails flying about during her shine moment, always transports me back to my original WTF is Happening Right Now moment, that I slipped down the Pigeon Hole.

Aftershock Festival Sacramento, Sunday October 9, 2022, first show, more like a teaser because they're in a line up of 21 other bands, with Foo Fighter as the headliner. So, I assume a 5 song set (30 mins.or so). Then it begins, US Domination, Po! I'm going to the Sac. show to support them in their first live since forever, driving 7 hours from LA for a 30 mins. set. I owe them at least that support, since they took care of us with their YT presence and online Okyu-ji during the dark times of the pandemic. Then back in LA, SD and a field trip to Houston. Nippon Budokan and Tokyo Dome, one day, for sure, Po! Great rxn.

"THIS PERFORMANCE" is pretty much the default GateWay to Band-Maid. It's the entry point to the Band-Maid musical Bubble. Beyond this point one will find what they do with the whole rock bubble.... whether it be hard, fast, slow, chug, groove, ballad, punk, pop, etc ..... Band -Maid are one of the rare groups that do their own thing. Their own sound and style. We Are Maidiacs....... or Masters and Princesses.... Songs??? Nice reaction. thanks. My recommendation is, 'Freedum live' in the same concert video if you want to see more intense drums. 'Play live' if you want more bass and guitar grooves. 'Onset live' If you want to see more instrumental interaction. Miku (founder, sub-vocal, rhythm guitar and lyrics) says BAND-MAID is magic. Of course I agree too. The musicality of BAND-MAID is a bit complicated. I recommend the entrance to the deep pigeon hole.

MAGIC? You bet! ALL members are featured players and excel beyond compare. Lives are always preferred in most cases but the MV's and even just straight from the albums are excellent and well produced. The instrumental ONSET-LIVE will cement you as a MAIDIAC. BAND-MAID is so Awesome that any song you choose will not negate their awesomeness. Peace.

Their more recent album has even more complexity. Here are a few reasons why the maids tower above all others in the eyes of the maidiac: 1 - Their songs are very "re-listenable" because of the density of the composition, as well as all the constant twists. The instrumentals behind their 2nd verse are almost always different, for example than the first verse. A lot of their songs do not follow "normal" song structure. 2 - The do have a magic, as you say. That magic is the ability to leave you feeling better than you did before the song - every stinking time. Try it - I do not lie, and I've relied on them heavily to keep anxiety and depression at bay during stressful times. The downside? Your face will start to hurt from grinning so hard. 3 - They all play an equal part in their songs, and that is by design. The lead guitarist Kanami Tono is a composition/arranging super-genius - able to crank out hooks at will, and without limit. As you go through their many songs and find out that they're all great to holy crap, you'll see what I mean. The pigeon (Miku) writes the lyrics. 4 - They are carrying hard rock music on their back right now, bringing back a much missed genre for old guys like me, but re-inventing it so it's up to date, accessible to the masses and attractive to the discerning musician as well. (I have a degree in music, although I only use it for listening now days. Mostly am into prog and hard bop, but these ladies are just too much fun to ignore! These are just some of the reasons.

You seem to have a good feel for the people you see and hear, because to be right after only 2 videos with so much about these ladies is remarkable, as I think.:) Without exception, each of them has the talent to be the shining star of the band. But that's exactly what you won't see with them. I haven't seen anything like too much ego in the history of this band, not even for a fraction of a second. You could say 'one for all, and all for one'. And this is also reflected in their songs, as you can hear and see here very well. Each gets its time to shine, and with the amount of talent that has come together here, anything else would just be a shame. And also with the assumption that here are 5 completely different personalities on stage, you are absolutely right. But despite your many good assessments, I think you're still only scratching the surface of it all. :) I'm usually not a big fan of statements like 'best band in the world', but in the field of rock music I don't currently know of any group that could match these ladies in terms of talent, creativity, versatility and the quality of their live shows. The genre, which I personally had already labeled 'dead' until I stumbled across a video of this band, hasn't seen or heard anything like them in a very, very long time. And this video happened to be their first and oldest MV, which is called 'Thrill', which I can also only recommend. :) Welcome aboard this fantastic journey also from a German 'Maidiac'. 😉🤘🏻 _____________________ 【 _Our rock never dies ever. They're better live actually because, like you said, they add a little more to their songs in live performances. If you like live performances, the next one you should react to eould be "Freedom Live". There are two live performances that were taken down feom their official YT channel before, "Moratorium" Live and "Puzzle" Live. They're both not in YT anymore, but they're in Bilibili. But since it's outside of YT and due to ©️ issues, it may not be safe to react to them. But if you just want to listen or see those performances, you should check it out on your free time, you won't regret it. Looking forward for your next reaction to them. Thank you.

You are right about their individual personalities being very different, and yet very compatible with each other. If you are still curious about them, here's an interview from a few years back. It's a mix between their real personalities and their stage personas, which are just exaggerations of who they actually are. It's pretty amusing and informative. Hi Jules, great reaction again and touchdown as you are going to be abducted by BAND MAID and The Maidiacs. Let me tell you that this is just a snack in your mouth. Jules, they are extremely diverse and you will find hard rock, metal, progressive, pop, punk, funk, jazz, rap, traditional japanese (Project BAND MAIKO), etc. and most of times mixed in the same song in an amazing way. Remember 120 songs in your face and your neurons will be jumping like pop corn in a microwave. Suggestions of songs from BAND MAID that 'kick the asses' of other bands: 'Manners' ( Guns 'n' Roses ), Daydreaming ( U2 ), RINNE ( The Offspring, Ramones... ) and blah, blah, blah until the end of the world and further but, honestly, I have no idea what can I suggest you properly. Finally, if you find a song that is not amazing, please, let us know here as we are, The Maidiacs, in the search but so far... By the way if you pick 'Play' (live) or 'Real Existence' (live) put a helmet in your head. Just saying it !
