Hi guys! Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 57 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive 10 year back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot. They are currently celebrating their 10th anniversary with the original line up. If you love bass you are going to love Band-Maid, the bass is prominent and up front in most songs they do. Lots of bass solo's too. MISA the bassist (also known as The Barefoot Assassin) plays 'Lead bass' lol! Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. The idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans as "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Hey! You left out the part about how the founder, Miku, thought her voice wasn't quite what they wanted. So, with no hesitation, they auditioned singers and Saiki was chosen. When we say MISA solos all the time that's what we mean. Wave Potter another musician reactor ran some tunes by BandMaid thru a program that isolated the bass track. I wasn't able to grasp what I heard all the other tracks were playing. MISA was basically playing intricate counterpoint under Kanami's guitar solo. That's how rich their music is. Have you ever seen the documentary where they went very very deep in the ocean. No light at all down this deep. Total darkness and yet the fish were the most vibrant colors. Even though no one could see them. Sometimes with a BandMaid song it is difficult to fully grasp everything that is there. Unseen world indeed. The music is intricate and genre bending. More hooks than a fly fisherman's hat and more riffs per song than most bands put in a whole album. These women are remarkable people especially Miku Kobato founder, lyricist, second lead singer and rhythm guitarist. She is the most cutesy maid. She is like a velvet covered brick. She has a will of iron and works tirelessly to promote the Band. All the Maids work hard and to overcome obstacles to get here. 7:08

Band Maid is a musician’s band of musicians. Of their over 125 song back catalog, they’ve released four fully instrumental tracks, all unique. I consider them to be “hard rock fusion,” with a progressive blend of genres. The only consistent theme is happiness. As a drummer and bassist? You guys are going to absolutely LOVE Band Maid. MISA, the bassist, solos in almost every song. Akane, the drummer, has some of the most beautifully creative fills you’ve ever heard. And she hits hard. Please consider those instrumentals to get a feel for their skills and versatility. “Without Holding Back” “Onset,” “From Now On,” (my personal favorite) Subscribed for your journey 🎉

Welcome Home, Gents!!!🕊️ Congratulations on improving your life today! You haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of the surface in your journey of discovery with the Maids. Finding the Maids can be a life-changing experience of pure JOY! 🤩 The Maids are a remarkable collection of extraordinarily talented musicians who excel at every aspect of modern Rock music creation: Composition, Arrangement, Songwriting, Orchestration, Instrumentation, Recording, Production, Playing and Performance. If you stick with the journey, you’ll see it’s true. They just released a new album “Epic Narratives” that’s absolutely glorious! They pull in fans from all rock genres - pop-punk, emo, modern rock, classic rock, grunge, heavy metal; because the Maids are so talented and versatile with songs using elements of every rock style and genre imaginable! Many of their biggest fans are folks who grew up with Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, RUSH, YES, The Who, Santana, Toto, Steely Dan, etc….and we find many of the high-level musical qualities in the Maids and their music. We like to say the Maids are their own genre. They are in fact on the (back) cover of the Japanese Rolling Stone magazine this month. They have a goal of (peaceful) World Domination through music; and are on their way. They’ve toured Europe and North America before; they’ve stayed in Japan for 2024, but expect them to make a tour stop near you in 2025! As for more songs; 😂. It’s a bit of a joke with us Masters & Princesses (or Maidiacs, if you prefer), because, literally, the Maids are probably the single most PROLIFIC band at writing great song after great song - EVER. No kidding. They have 130+ songs across the rock music genre spectrum - we say they are their own genre. 🤷🏻♂️ Seriously, I’m not kidding - you’ll easily get 50-75 different song suggestions from 10 different people. And there’s a saying in the community; “Your favorite Band-Maid song is the next one you listen to.” 🤷🏻♂️ My contributions for the next song on your journey down the Band-Maid “Pigeon Hole” (😂) cover a diverse set of songs. First, you must see these recent live releases starting with - “Hate?” - OLV - true guitar/bass EPIC-NESS! 🔥 Then - Magie” - OLV - from new album - “Don’t You Tell Me” - OLV - “Unleash!!!!!” - OLV And finally the Show closer (tears 😭) - “Endless Story” - OLV Then dozens & dozens more… Their most recent release is a real Thrill Ride (pun intended), with lots of different motifs in the song. You should check it out soon: - “Forbidden Tale” - OMV High energy Anime songs from new Epic Narratives album? - “Shambles” - OMV - “Protect You” - OMV More Classic Rock style - “Manners” - OMV - Then, “Manners / Black Hole” - official online live video - HOW, just HOW?!! - “Dice” - OMV - “Turn Me On” - OLV - “Moratorium” - OLV - Puzzle - OLV Did you say instrumentals? - “From Now On” - OMV - “Onset” - OLV - “Without Holding Back” - MV Modern/Progressive? - “Influencer” - OMV - “Why, Why, Why” - OLV - “Youth” - OLV - “Bubble” - OMV - “Corallium” - OLV Tender & Beautiful? - “Wonderland” - official live video - “Daydreaming” - OMV - “Memorable” - OMV - “About Us” - OLV - “Bestie” - OMV (all English) from new album! Acoustic? Oh, yes!! - “Catharsis” - OLV - (Christmas show) - “Sayonakidori” - OLV (MIKU Song!!) - “Puzzle” (acoustic special) - OLV And where it all began: - “Thrill” - OMV - the video that saved them. Then dozens and dozens more from our special Maids. In fact, lead guitarist Kanami Tono just became the first Japanese artist with a PRS Limited Edition model, personally handed to her by Paul Reed Smth at a ceremony in Tokyo last weekend. They’ve also recently released a collaboration for the new album between The Maids and the Mexican Villarreal sisters, The Warning. Do you know The Warning? If not, that’s whole other rabbit hole to go down, too! - “Show Them” - OMV (all English) Then check out The Warning - “Automatic Sun” - OMV It’s a special moment for both bands!! The Warning have released a Behind-the -Scenes which is fantastic! You see a bit of the worked together despite the language difficulties. - The Warning First Trip to Japan with BAND-MAID. Oh my gosh, you have opened the floodgates. This is one of the flagship bands in the Japanese scene. They may be the best hard rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles. (Yes, I stand by that statement!) You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band: Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual shred. The band was struggling early on, and in 2014, even as the label was considering dropping them, they posted the music video for “Thrill” which went viral globally. When they realized what was going on, it gave them the momentum to forge ahead, and they have now done multiple tours of Europe and the U.S. and are building a global fanbase who call themselves the Maidiacs. They have released seven full albums, as well as several EPs, singles and music videos. They have put out around 170 songs, covering a wide variety of styles and sounds, without any duds. They combine a punk vibe with instrumental virtuosity (two things that are often seen as being incompatible), and have done some amazing progressive-rock songs with a metal edge to them. They toured the U.S. in 2022 and sold out 14 cities in less than 48 hours. They followed it up with a 2023 tour which had to be expanded from their original plans. Their fan base skews heavily to actual practicing musicians. Some of those followed the band to multiple dates and documented everything on youtube-some of the footage is hilarious. I’ve seen them three times (2019, 2022 and 2023) and their shows are truly life-reaffirming. So far no announcements of another European tour but it seems likely in 2024. Band-Maid are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio. @@HaroMatsuRestarted But of course. Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan. Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their KZbin channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. If anyone would like to know more, please feel free to ask.

You have NO IDEA of what you are getting involved in !!!! They are just the best of a dozen very good Japanese female bands playing today. They are sheer perfection. To get a true look at their musicianship you should react to the official live video of "Onset", one their amazing instrumentals. If you liked this, you will LOVE that !!!!!! They did three tours in the US between the fall of 2022 and August of 2023 and I have seen them three times and loved every minute. I'm a 76-year old diehard rocker from NYC and Band Maid has renewed my faith in music. Japanese female bands are saving rock of all types, which has pretty much disappeared here. And there are so many great Asian groups out there today, especially from Japan. There is a new and very good female group out of South Korea named Rolling Quartz who also had a very successful US tour in 2023. Welcome to the Wonderful World of Band Maid.

An older guy here, huge Led Zep fan and have fallen for Band-Maid (and I know you will too)! Each is a virtuoso musician (or singer), Kanami the lead guitar writes the heart of their songs and Miku (red rose) and Saiki (blue rose) add the lyrics while Misa massages her bass parts and Akane works out the percussion. Amazing group, it was fate that they were to find each other in this band and they've been together for 10 years with no conflict or hesitation. They are all fantastic artists but special note goes to the rhythm section of Akane on drums and Misa on Bass; personally I think Akane is the best drummer today and likewise, I can't name anyone I think is better than Misa. And they are all 29-32 years old and working hard everyday to get better.

Future Maidiacs? Here’s the band: Saiki-lead vocals. The Ice Queen This meaning no longer applies. Misa-bass, Barefoot Assassin. Doesn’t wear shoes on stage. Akane-drums, Gorilla. Likes bananas and hits the drums hard. Kanami-lead guitar, songwriter. Mincho. She is aggressive on stage but sweet and mellow off stage. Miku-rhythm guitar, vocals. Small Pigeon. Kobato Miku translates to small pigeon. Ends sentences with Po because she’s a pigeon. Founded the band in 2013. Didn’t know how to play guitar when she started the band. Kanami is her sensei.

You are right on. These wonderful women of Band-Maid should be much more well known. Best band in the world and that’s no joke. The maid outfit is intentionally intended to contrast with the hard style of music they play. Recommendations: ‘Moratorium’, ‘Domination’, an instrumental in ‘Onset’ and ‘From now on’. Actually, any song is good and they have many. They also compose and write their own songs now.

You've only scratched the surface. Keep digging and you'll realize that you've hit the Mother Lode with Band-Maid. For Band-Maid, performances like "Domination" are normal. 9 times out of 10 they start their concerts with "Domination" and then do 18 to 22 more songs for the next two hours. The Maids are energy monsters on stage and really know how to engage an audience. They have released 8 or 9 albums since 2013 and although you can tell that they have evolved over the years, you really can't point out ONE album or ONE song as their best. But you can say that all their albums and songs are VERY GOOD and not to be ignored. Band-Maid was founded by Miku Kobato who started as primary vocalist but later learned to play rhythm guitar. She recruited lead guitar Kanami Tono who in turn asked her friend Akane Hirose to play drums. Akane invited her college buddy Misa to play bass. After rehearsing for a few months Kobato decided her voice was not carrying over the power trio she had recruited and the auditioned Saiki Atsumi to be their lead vocal. Don't try to pin a genre on Band-Maid: they hop around and mix genre to suit their taste. They count Maximum The Hormone as one of their influences.

Nice job on catching the bass player Misa's "magic trick" with her guitar pick. Yes, she tucks the pick between her index finger and palm and then slaps & pops using her thumb and middle finger. An interviewer once asked her what happens if she drops the pick and she replied that she had not dropped a pick in over two years. When asked about it a different time she stated simply "I never drop it". Total confidence from that girl.

The band calls the contrast between their cutesy maid costumes and their hard rock sound "the gap". They enjoy seeing the confused looks on people's faces when they walk on stage and the reaction when they start playing with their hard rock sound. My opinion is that Band-Maid are one of the best bands to have formed in the past 10 years, and are currently one of the best rock and roll bands on the planet. They play many genres including ballads, power ballads, pop, rock, progressive rock, hard rock, punk, metal, nu metal, and everything before in-between and beyond. They also have several great instrumental songs that they use live to give their lead singer Saiki a break. I don't know what musical style that you prefer but you can't go wrong by listening to Onset, From Now On, Moratorium, No God, Rinne, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, and my favorite Official Music Video of theirs Don't You Tell Me. The double bass kick drum on No God and Rinne will blow your mind. Have fun with it! Introducing The Band... Miku [mee-kuu] (Small Pigeon) - Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Lyricist, Band Founder Misa [mee-suh] (Barefoot Assassin) - Bass Guitar Akane [aah-kah-nay] (Gorilla) - Drums Kanami [kuh-nah-mee] (Mincho) - Lead Guitar, Songwriter Saiki [sigh-kee] (Sai-Chan) - Lead Vocals

They're Japanese this and is their 10th year. Good job spotting the bassist Misa's trick with her pick. If you check out their 1st MV Thrill, there is a bass solo in it. Their look is based on Japanese maid cafes, the band founder, Miku Kobato, who had worked in maid cafes and was an idol singer. proposed to her agency to create a rock band with a maid look. She liked the "gap", the contrast between the subservient maid look and the hard rock sound. While the company did advertise for band members, Kobato went out and found the lead guitarist Kanami on-line. Kanami in turn had worked with drummer Akane on some gigs. Akane knew Misa from music school. The band started with just those 4, with Miku as the sole singer but Miku decided they needed a stronger rock voice. They auditioned Saiki who was signed to the same agency. The agency wanted one of the singers to hold a guitar ( I guess for the look) so Miku got a guitar which she did not know how to play (you can tell that in the Thrill video). Kanami became her main teacher and now Miku does play the rhythm guitar. She has gotten quite good. She has own signature guitar from Zemaitis. Misa's basses are now all custom built by the Japanese maker Black Cloud. They just announced a Misa signature bass. Kanami plays PRS Custom 24s and Akane has a Tama drum kit. Kanami is the chief music composer and Kobato is the chief lyricist though Saiki has done a few songs. So Kobato is band founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist, 2nd vocalist, and chief spokesperson. Saiki and Misa did not like the maid look so their costumes in particular have evolved away from that.

"Is the singer that same one that's in Lovebites?" and it stops on NO NO NO! So - no SAIKI is the lead singer. Here's how the band was formed - Sorry it' so long but we are MAIDIACS! Interviewer - What’s the meaning of the name “BAND MAID”? Miku: I used to work at a maid cafe, and I thought “I want a band!” So it became BAND-MAID - maids in a band! Interviewer - How did BAND-MAID come together? Did any of you know each other before joining the band? The band members are: Kanami - (KANAMI TONO - LEAD GUITAR - plays PRS Custom 24 because she is a huge fan of CARLOS SANTANA - Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier. - Writes the music (one interview she states that she has a database - 2 years worth?!) : Miku ...... (MIKU KOBATO - RHYTHM GUITAR - plays Zemaitis C24MF (Zemaitis Endorsement - with a Signature Guitar called Flappy Pigeon) - EVH Amps - Writes the lyrics - Has only been playing guitar for about 7 years. Was the singer but took a back seat voluntarily! Originator of this band. ) ...... was looking for members to be in BAND-MAID. I (KANAMI) was approached to join the band, and then I brought my friend, the drummer Akane ...... (AKANE HIROSE - DRUMS - Plays TAMA drums with Zildjian Cymbals - Roland KD-A22 - started playing drums after hearing MAXIMUM THE HORMONE) ..... , with me. Then, Akane brought her friend, the bassist Misa. MISA ....... (Her mother listened to JIMI HENDRIX when she was little- In the song THRILL you can see she has 2 JIMI HENDRIX stickers on her bass guitar. as a tribute to her mother. ) ......So the instrumental performers were all gathered through connections between musicians. After that, our vocalist Saiki joined through an audition. SAIKI - lead singer helps MIKU to write lyrics to the music that KANAMI written - with input from AKANE and MISA. Interviewer: Maid outfits aren’t exactly rock ‘n’ roll. What is your ultimate heavy metal costume? MIKU “Now Band-Maid’s outfits are part of rock n roll, so we pick these!” There is a Tweet of Jimmy Page backstage with AKANE twitter.com/jimmypagenews/status/798242289596264449?lang=en BAND MAID does many many solos! BASS - DRUMS - GUITAR - SINGER always! Great catch on MISA's playing! You earned a subscription for that! Many do not catch that. From a radio interview - - (Chris): What amazed me most about your play style is the changing of picking to slapping, and then picking again so smoothly. Some bassists may throw their picks away to slap, but you use the same pick when you change from slapping to picking again, right? (Misa): No, I don't throw my pick away. I have become better as I practiced. For the recent 2-3 years, I haven't lost any pick. (Chris): Show me how. (Misa): I keep the pick with my index finger and palm. (Chris): Then you slap the bass with your thumb and middle finger? Can you show me how you play? (then Misa shows how) (Misa): Because I've been practicing these days, I can change faster than ever. (Chris): You are mixing them up! That's awesome! (Misa): I think anybody can do it if you practice. Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve - now has a signature bass guitar.

One thing about the guitar mix is Kanami the lead guitarist wants everyone to shine so her guitar is usually mixed a little quieter than other bands would do. On the other hand you can pretty much always hear Misa going ham on bass with every song which you don't see a lot. Oh an speaking of Maximum the Hormone, another Japanese girl band that's skyrocketed in popularity is Hanabie who started out as a cover band for them.

Band-Maid wants world domination with their music and conquer your hearts. An impressive catalog of songs that they compose, arrange and write themselves (since 2016) in many rock genres and none of them are bad. The uniforms are a contrast to their aggressive rock. Your thoughts on anime are appropriate because they have written several songs for anime, one of which will be released in 2024 for Grendizer. Band-Maid is simply the best current hard rock band. Thanks for your great analysis guys.
