The best part about the drum solo in this video, outside of it being freaking awesome, is the gigantic, face splitting, 'I'm about to lose it!" ear to ear smile on Akane's face. With some bands, you can tell that they're there to "do the job". Some will even have a little fun here and there during the performance. With BAND MAID, you can tell that they are enjoying the living hell out of being on stage, just as much, if not more, than the people in the audience. I love these women.

Holy shit, dude! Finally someone else acknowledges how far In Flames fell! In my opinion, they had a real adventurous, experimental streak in them in the beginning. Harmonizing their guitars with cellos and violins?! They were stupendous up to Colony, then went down faster than Metallica post-...And Justice for All. See? People who know good music recognize Band Maid for their musical depth and prowess.💪🏻🤘🏻 Edit: Miku and Kanami keep their eyes on each other as they have a history of pranking each other during Freedom, like sneaking up and flipping each other’s skirts!🤣

We need to keep in mind that this whole thing came together because of Miko Kobatos vision. She went out there looking for these musicians . She had a very clear vision of what she wanted, she noticed that the music needed a different kind of vocal than what she could offer and it was then that she decides to open audition for a Lead vocalist and found that in Saiki . She’s the true visionary of the band. There is no Band Maid if she wouldn’t have put it together. To me that’s BOSS, she gave up the front seat for the better of the band. Humble and a leader. They all contribute immensely but these girls owe her a lot.

@Evren G.Nez great point and true. What did happen though was Kobato sprung the Maid Cafés employees uniform on Saiki at the very last second when Saiki couldn't back out. Saiki has said many times l am the only normal person in the band and if l had known that the Maid Cafés outfit and a pigeon were involved, referring to Kobato, with this band l never would have joined. That's not to say that Saiki is very happy to be a member and has been for some time. Only that while she loves Miku Kobato can get on her nerves once in awhile. Best regards.

If I go out of my way to seek a singer to see if she fits in the band . I’m headhunting her for an audition,even if she was part of the same agency. Saiki didn’t have it in the bag. She was close but ultimately needed to fit . If not she would have replaced Saiki with whoever was next on the audition list. I’ve been following since the first album. Know the history and transitions very well .

Miku doesn't really have the vocal presence that Saiki has, but she harmonizes with Saiki almost flawlessly. Good examples of this are the chorus of One and Only, and the closing part of Secret My Lips. Miku has two very brief solo vocal parts in Daydreaming that really elevate the song and are genuinely beautiful, so there's that also. Also I strongly recommend that you check Rinne out if you want to hear this band at their most riff-heavy. I'm a fence-sitter when it comes to Band-Maid's newest album, but that song is a fucking monster.

Saiki has the vocal power, but she sometimes has to put a lot of effort into the high notes. Miku's voice has less power, but her range is a lot broader (both high and low) and she sings all her notes effortlessly. Perfect for harmonizing.

Another great review. Band Maid are such incredible musicians but the also now how to put on a show and have so much fun doing it. Part of that showmanship is setting Akane up for the drum solo by having Saiki singing in front of the drum riser to bring the crowds attention squarely upon Akane... then she delivers in an epic way. Next year on February 11, 2021 when they play at the famous Budokan Arena in Tokyo in front of 15,000+ fans I hope they make another concert DVD like they did for this show.

When Miku was putting this band together it was always in her plan to find a strong vocalist . She was in a previous 3 pc who did some single and clip and knew it had to have a harder edged vocalist. Yep agree with you on all your comments on riffs, change ups, transitions. And of course drum solo and Kaname, the genius composer, with all her great arrangement. This band is a 1 in a million chemistry combo.

Each song can easily teach you four or five different riffs (with their corresponding rhythm guitar variant), little gems that last just long enough to make it more valuable. Everything else is great too, but that transition, there's just something about it, how naturally and logically it flows from one solo to the next, but not immediately. Have to hand it to Miku. She was the one who thought her voice wasn't strong enough to sing the types of songs she wanted the band to play that's why they recruited Saiki. This version is great. Love Akane's drum solo. There used to be this song from their Zepp show on YT. In that one Miku got to shine 2x on lead vocals. Once at same spot as this one and then towards the end Saiki goes a bit into audience to sing and gets kidnapped by that audience so Miku took over on lead vocals and brought it home.

I don’t think I can say freedom is a better song than domination. Up until now my fave live performance was their feb 14 domination. But after seeing this...this might be the better live performance. Band-maid understand the importance of space and silence in a song that most band do not. The only other Metal/rock bands that use it as well are Iron Maiden (Almost positive that's a big influence, hell they use the same typeface...) and Nightwish.

MISA!!!! MISA!!!! MISA!!!!!! Awesome video. It's a long A for Ahhh kan eh, not a short A. This was Akane's time to shine on the drums. The best drum solo I have seen in a long time. She a Gorilla on the drums. If she' not a top 5 drummer then that list needs to be updated. Like usual all 5 ladies are have a great time performing and with each other on stage. The are living the dream and appreciate every moment as if it's their last. Their concerts are like this from start to finish.

Let's get one thing straight...it was MIKU who chose Saiki to be lead singer. Make no mistake, this is MIKU's band. And, you have to love Kanami trolling Miku Kanami is dive bombing all over the place.

One thing that is very visual in this video, but you can see in other vids, is when Miku’s solo came, Kanami took a knee to put more attention to her. I’ve seen all (save Akane, of course) do that, letting the audience pay attention to the current soloist.

As for their outfits, early on they all wore outfits like Miku & Kanami currently wear. But Misa and Saiki never were comfortable in them. So, when they started personalizing their outfits, both dumped most of the maid look. Misa also usually ditches her shoes, and thus is ‘the Barefoot Assassin Maid’. Akane switched to shorts, probably to make drumming easier, and ditched her little hat latter because it was too much of a hassle.

I love his reaction to Akane's drum solo and then Kanami's guitar bit right after it! That was pretty much my reaction to it, too. That solo literally turned her into my favorite drummer in any band. I also find it funny how, in literally EVERY reaction video people make about this performance, they ALWAYS go back and watch the drum solo again. LOL they just HAVE to play it twice. It DEMANDS to be heard again. Also, Miku's brief singing bit is kind of adorable, isn't it? She sounds just a TINY bit nervous doing it, and while that normally would work to undermine it - ESPECIALLY if it were a guy doing it, in which case it might even undermine the whole rest of the song, in Miku's case it just makes it endearing (I mean, she's kawaii as a button, so it's not at all hard to be endeared to her haha).

Nobody missed Akane's drum long drum solo, longest one I've seen on video. They are just reminding you how talented, skilled, and professional they are!

They are the same outfits because it's the same show as Domination :) That said, these are newer outfits than ... a few months back (That show may have been the debut of the new outfits. Not sure). It's about the 3rd set that I'm aware of. Kanami and Saiki's skirts both got longer - which is probably a good thing since they spend so much time near the edge of the stage lol. Kanami also got a little "fluffier" especially on the back. Miku though REALLY went full fluffy! Really embracing the pigeon hehe. Early-mid Band-Maid featured Akane's Tiny Hat. Sadly, she had to set it aside because it had to be attached so firmly to her head to keep from flying off, that it hurt. So while sad (and it is missed by all), it's understandable. That's all I am aware of and it's just from watching a LOT of videos of them. They are a fantastic band, and imo the best straight-up rock band out - anywhere.

About Miku and her voice - dunno if someone mentioned it before, but when they are greeting the fans, speaking between songs and doing the ending ment, she usually uses a very "cute-pitched" maid voice and tacks on "-po" to a lot of the sentences. In Japanese, this is the sound a pigeon makes (like a soundword), she likes pigeons a lot, and her stage name literally translates to "little pigeon". ^^ It's really so cute! I saw them live once, and they are truly amazing! If you want to see them in traditional Geisha robes, check out her "alter-ego" Band Maiko's video of Secret Maiko Lips (could make it a double feature with the original Secret My Lips)

It is a little deeper than that. Miku actually rents a little space in her head to an 810 year old pigeon who is Kobato. The indomitable young woman is Miku. Kobato inspires as a muse and looks out for Miku and company like a guardian angel. Miku also firmly believes in magic. During "magic time" she is casting a spell to simply ensure a flawless performance that would please all the masters and princesses in the audience. Regards.

An epic drum solo, followed by Kanami flexing a bit, followed by flawless, nearly _a cappella_ vocals for some seconds 😮 These five women are so good, it's ridiculous. And the best thing is the obvious fun they are having when making music together ... Akane's *huge* grin during her solo is memorable. You gotta love their sound engineers, too ... every instrument is clearly defined and perfectly balanced, which allows us to admire Misa's fantastic bassline throughout the performance. Can't wait to see them live, hopefully next year.

The bass and lead riffs are very quiet in this video. They are much much more forward in the Summer Sonic video. It was an entire concert set and one of the best all around recordings I had found. No shame in watching other reactions of the other video from Summer Sonic. I'd almost do that with most of their songs if you could and maybe just give us your thoughts in another Band-Maid video.

Akane is a force of nature behind the drum kit. Saiki is a gifted vocalist. Miku’s voice isn’t as powerful, but is very pleasant and she harmonizes so well with Saiki. Spoiler alert. All Band Maid songs are solid, with many being very good to excellent. I recommend “Moratorium”, “Puzzle”, and “Freezer”. Their first video, which started the ball rolling, is “Thrill” which is worth a view.

What you mentioned about Transition riffs is kinda a Kanami trademark.Surprised you picked up on that. She has a tendency to do it more often in more recent songs. What's crazy is that those riffs could theoretically build entire different songs, but, she apparently thinks it is more important to use it wherever she believes it has the greatest effect. Two songs off of my head that have this is Blooming and The Dragon Cries off the latest album Conqueror. I mean the riffs she uses are short, but spectacular and seem to really set off the parts before and after. Another is sort of at the beginning of Puzzle, a great song off their album Just Bring It! So it is something that she knows what she is doing. Another reactor commented that they are very brave to use so much good stuff in one song, even when the song would still be good without the little things they do to make it great. I totally agree with that.

If/when you ever get around to watching Puzzle, I think you should do a double reaction video of it and the live acoustic version of it. I think you'll definitely be blown away by Saiki's vocal ability with that one.
