It looks like Misa is using a different bass then I know of. She's using/having at least these ones: a 4-string Fender Jazz Bass, a 5-string G&L USA L-2500, a pre-Band-Maid 4-string Fender American Precision Bass and a Black Cloud custom 5-string Bass aka "Black Smoker". For an instrumental song checkout Onset, which is a break for Saiki's voice. Also contains solo's for every instrument: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4fVf2CglLqWZrc Addition: as an april fools day joke in 2018, they founded Band-Maiko. They mostly covered their existing songs, but also created a new song. You might checkout the original song: Gion-cho kzbin.info/www/bejne/q562pWqlgrqAmdU. Only OMV unfortunately, no live.

@Kevin60593 жыл бұрын
So I'm sure the Band Maid Army will follow very quickly, but I'll also offer up these comments about Band-Maid. This of course was a great song for you to start with, because of the drum solo - and just because they're having so much fun and it's a joy to watch. As you hear more of their songs though, you'll notice that Akane (you pronounced it right) often does really cool and constantly varied stuff throughout a lot of their songs. So the opposite of a "time-keeper." Check out Blooming and Dice to name a couple of songs with no solo but really interesting drumming, from the standpoint of constantly varying patterns underneath the band. The drums and bass are both more "up front" in Band-Maid and they'll knock your socks off "AS A TEAM" - two maids for each foot and Miku supervising. They are all great players. However... their best trait of all IMO is their songwriting and arranging. Again this song has a relatively simple format (for Band-Maid) and you'll find that a lot of their other songs go in really different places musically. Thinking about that, Domination Live would also be a great next pick - it's from this same show and has a "mini" drum solo, and shows off their songwriting and arranging skills - you are going to be even more amazed that you think! You will always hear something you didn't the time before for a lot of their songs, as they are so complex. Their sound? Well most have a hard rock foundation, but they often go on wild ventures outside of that into pop-punk, little prog elements here and there, and there's even one song where Kanami seems to me to be channeling Duane Allman. Sorry to be so long winded, but as another trained musician and former band director - these girls are so much fun and so good it's just awesome.

Well put. And while it's true that Band-Maid _as a whole_ is best appreciated in their live performances, I've been thinking that the best way to appreciate just how freakin' much each member puts into each song musically is close listening to the studio recordings on headphones - and preferably while watching the instrumental DVD when there is one.
@ethangospodareck3 жыл бұрын
Well said! No two songs are the same in almost any way. Tempo and styles change every 15 seconds and you'll hear influences and bits on the 50th listen that you never picked up on. If people shoot you links, live is best, fans will know which ones. bilibili.com has alot ofbstufd KZbin took down or you can message @pacoacosta , he's got a bunch of videos he shares. @patrickbrennan28643 жыл бұрын
(“she reminded him”) The only grain of truth to this story is because John Bonham is on record as wanting to be reincarnated as a young Japanese chambermaid. (It really had nothing to do with the quality of the drumming, which is average at best.)

I am going to suggest "Secret my Lips" as I believe it is a great example of Akane's incredible ability on the drum kit. I get people recommending this because of the Drum Solo, but gotta say this is actually a relatively simple song, for Akane, compared to a lot of their catalog. She really revs it up and spices up the drum fills on some later stuff. She's one of my favorite drummers today because of how she uses fills and accents, very inventive, very tight timing. Sometimes she gets compared against metal drummers who may be faster, but few of them are more creative or play with more swing, especially the double punch of Akane and Misa (bass), it's some of the tastiest and most underrated rock n roll rhythm section work since Grohl and Novoselic were together in Nirvana. I'd rate Band Maid as the best hard rock band of the last decade, by a lot.

THE best live Rock band on Earth. I'd normally leave it at that as it explains everything you need to know about Band-Maid...but based on your reaction and as it's good to hear someone who knows a lot about any of their instruments and how well they play them explain new things to me, I subscribed in the hope of seeing you analyse more of their almost impeccable back catalogue (really, they literally don't make bad songs) and thought I'd mention a few things about them. Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. They are the only band I've seen in the 21st century that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as that other exceptional band, Babymetal, have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the DVD they released in April 2020, which 'Freedom' is also from: PLAY: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX3biZKqaduabbc , CHOOSE ME: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpTUmqeYjcycnbc , DOMINATION: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k and WONDERLAND: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmXLqX-bfcekkNE , though they have superb music videos too, especially the last five on their YT channel, all released in the past 2 months. Oh, almost forgot; Jimmy Page saw them live in 2016 and went backstage after...for a selfie with Akane! As Bonham was the best drummer I was lucky enough to see play live (though Keith Moon and Ginger Baker ran him close), a compliment from Zeppelin's master guitarist is a hell of a affirmation of her talent.

My favourite band ! Thank you for reacting to them. It is so important for us Band Maid fans that professional musicians/teachers discover them. I would recommend 'Domination' live (from the same concert) for another reaction or 'Blooming' MV for more great drumming. Thanks !

I found Band-Maid about two and a half years ago while being bored at work watching silly Japanese Music videos. (see Baby Metal "Gimme Chocolate"). They kept popping up in my recommendations, but the thumbnail clearly showed them wearing silly Maid costumes. But hey, that day I was watching silly videos. OMFG! is all I can say. After you watch and listen to these musicians you will never think of them as silly. The first thing I focused in on was the Drummer. I had assumed this was just another Pop-Idol group where the girls just sing and dance, looking cute as they do their thing. But from the first ("Start Over") the Drummer was clearly playing. It went from this kind of light guitar pop to slowly built up piece that had me clicking on the next one on the list: "Thrill." A total throwback to 80s Hard Rock nearly Metal. The drummer is sprinkling in double pedals and just keeping it rock solid. At this point I'm impressed and had to keep going. "Real Existence" is what put me over the edge. Akane (I had read the comments to find out her name at this point) goes completely Keith Moon wild on the drums while never losing control. Each verse, each chorus and the guitar solo all have multiple sub sections on the drums, and it is simply amazing. Simple, but ever moving, changing and perfectly locked into the rest of the music. So, after watching every last official video on their channel multiple times, made my first iTunes purchase EVER (and first money spent on new music in DECADES) I called up a friend of mine who had played guitar professionally in Japan back in the 90s. "Dude, I just found THE MOST AMAZING Japanese band! and they're all girls! and all dressed up li...." "Oh, you found Band-Maid, here, let me send you a link" ONSET. I think I cried. I've not been THIS into a band since first learning to play drums listening to Rush. They are THAT good.

I know that I mentioned her in a comment on a reaction you did to another Japanese band. You did akane's name pretty good there. I hope you do other songs, I would actually suggest "Rinne (official MV)" to give you a better taste of their harder rock style. I really enjoyed the reaction and hope to see more Band Maid! Edit: Dropped a sub, really did enjoy it. 😊

Akane is at the top of her craft. I really appreciate how you can see the foundation that was laid early music development of the song. Then she (someone) went back on the sheet and added intricate fills and other subtle change-ups to show off just how talented she is. Kind of like what Getty Lee would do with Neal Peart. Testing them to play at their full potential. And... KILLING IT!

Great energy. I don't know why, but watching them play in their outrageous costumes made me think of something someone said about Gingers Rogers. That she could do every thing Fred Astaire did; only backwards and in heels. This band can do anything any other rock band can do; only better and in crazy frilly dresses.

Welcome aboard, Andrew. You are embarking on (along with many others - 110 million YT views!) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (115 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XWaJppgpJnorM Their later songs from albums Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, and Just Bring It drive even more - Warning, No God, H-G-K, Black Hole, Different, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts! And many are represented with over 35 well produced music videos. kzbin.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZCUpZttmNmag9E, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqasinWhdt6Veas, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6S6i6mifKx3idU. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.). Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 27 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 30 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 28 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! [BAND-MAID NEWS] ■ 2021.05.10 BAND-MAID "THE DAY OF MAID" ONSITE / ONLINE CONCERT チケット詳細発表! I happy to see that a drum teacher has found Band Maid and Akane. AKA The Gorilla!. With so many drummer of popular rock bands on the MONSTER kits I am always happy to see Akane on her modest kit. Just the right size for any bar gig. Jimmy Page caught a show and requested a meet and greet with Akane after the show, she thought she was being pranked by the band.

“There’s something in the water over there in Japan.” Everyone who goes there will say three things. Everyone is nice, it’s extremely clean, and their water is the best tasting water they’ve ever had. My mom to this day still reminisces about Japan’s water. Andrew; yes, they are ALL THAT good. Members: Drums, Akane; Lead Guitar: Kaname; 2nd Guitar/2nd Vocals, Miku; Bass, Misa; Lead Vocal, Saiki... Miku is the founder of the band, Kaname writes most of their material... according to what I have read. Another similar band is Love Bites, also all female Japanese rock/metal. The drummer is Haruna, but her kicks are shocking. Check out their "Holy War", "Daughters of the Dawn" Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5TanKOenN-BnZo Enjoy
