Jeremy did you notice RJ desperately wanted to pause but the MISA/Kanami conversation just kept on going. And he didn't want to pause during a solo but beads of sweat were starting to form on his brow & he was thinking, "Oh no i'm going to get punished by YT for not pausing"....It was like watching a tense thriller.😬

It doesn't seem to matter how much you pause or don't, videos are blocked for other reasons and many many music reactions cannot be monetized at any rate. I try not to pause too much (depending on the video). Some people are already upset because of my pausing in this one. Oh well, can't please everyone. I do like the imagery in your comment though. That's great! 🙂

Simply put, Band-Maid is arguably the best live rock band on the planet and these ladies are without a doubt the most likeable. Each member exudes joy and positive energy. In an interview, Saiki (lead vocal) explained about the "?" mark in the title of this song. When Saiki wrote the lyrics, she wanted to use the phrase "I hate you". She decided the title to be "HATE", and then she realized that "HATE" could be read "はて" in Japanese. Because "はて" is typically used in question, she put "?" to make the title "HATE?". I'm sure that Saiki was smiling a lot when decided on this title with "?" because she guessed that English speaking fans would be puzzled by it. "はて?" can be translated as "What?"

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this very performance at the venue on Nov.26, last year. Very exciting 3-hour-40-minute-long show with 33-song setlist. (Happy fatigue thereafter 😄) Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. [FYI : Rush came from your country to Japan in 1984 for the first time and played at the same venue with The Beatles 😍] Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Welcome to the BandMaid experience. The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts: •Bass solos are more likely to happen than not •Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be •Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen. •Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •Youl like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that. •April Fools Day 2019 As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful. •The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis. •There is no "I" in BANDMAID. Well ok there is one "I" but my point is the songs are written by BandMaid. Not just Kanami Tono. The highly innovative bass and drum lines are created by Akane and MISA. There are no George songs and John&Paul songs. There are only BandMaid songs. •10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both. •Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese.Most songs are full of joy as well. •They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other. •Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

I am in my seventies and have always been a rock/metal enthusiast as well as jazz, classical, blues, and gospel. I had almost given up on modern music until I found this group 2 years ago. Now I have great joy again when listening to the women. They are just so good and while they do excellent hard rock and even metal, they also do so much more. I love everyone of them, but lately Saiki (lead vocalist) seems to have stolen my musical heart. I find myself singing her vocals in my head now many times during the day. As a Japanese, I would like to say a few words about the lyrics of the song “HATE?”. The lyrics of the song “HATE?” are not a song about a person's feelings in the face of social contradictions, nor about the beauty of love in a relationship between a man and a woman, nor about a person's longing for a partner in a relationship between a man and a woman. This song is about a relationship, but it is not a love song. The lyrics of this song are about a lover who has cheated on his girlfriend, “I never want to see your face again, don't you ever show up in front of me again!” The song sings. This “hate?” song is absolutely impossible for a male metal band to sing. It is also not appropriate for a beautiful female singer or a K-pop group. Only a female band with a solid career and overwhelming performance ability could have written this song. Please enjoy!

Easily my favorite band and, in my opinion, one of the best live bands around. They never stop trying to improve themselves. As for the maid costumes, they used to all be more "maid-like" in the early days but have adapted their own styles over their ten year run.

Lyrically this one of the few that were written by the lead singer Saiki, typically it's the Rythm Guitarist/Backup Vocals/Founder of the Band Miku that does the Lyrics... What I take from the Lyrics is don't piss off Saiki...

And a thing about the maid outfits, RJJ: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids. Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

That was a delightful reaction from a different perspective, someone who would not perhaps normally fall down this rabbit hole. And I truly get it. There is music that i know is really good that just doesn't happen to connect with me- no fault on anyone's part, thats life. I love Band Maid so much because it connects with me; I know I should love Lovebites just as much but the connection isn't there it's not my style of music as much, even tho it so well written and performed. I love BOC but Metallica not so much, its just what it is, no right or wrong. But I love any truly well thought out reactions with YOUR rationale, so great job RJ

Do yourself a favor RJJ and check out a bunch more of their songs. Their playing ability is of the amazing thing about this band - they are spectacular songwriters, all over the place genre wise (some say they are their own genre but it's hard rock at the core "most" of the time), including ballads, hard groove bluesy songs, metal, you name it. They're awesome!

Such an unusual introduction to Band Maid. It’s simultaneously a full example, yet stands in contrast to the rest of their work. This is the singular negative lyrical offering. Everything else is poetic, inspirational, or sometimes cryptic. “Hate?” Frantic, dense, complex and sometimes hard to catch on one listen. Again, in contrast to much of Band Maid’s catchy, groovy, melodic and fun hard rock. I know you have an ear for music and that the lyrics are part of your analysis. So I’m going straight to coffee bribery for my requested follow up ☕️

For something quieter why not try some of BAND-MAIDs acoustic music. The acoustic version of Puzzle and Anemone is very enjoyable and they also do full acoustic sets some feature all members of the band some just three with vocals taken over by the rythem guitarist. About Us is a balad about covid their first big concert cancelled missing the fans and people around the world separated from each other I think it might be more like what you are looking for.

I once saw an explanation from a Japanese commenter on why the "?" was in the title but for the life of me I can't remember the explanation. Being a different culture and language things often get "lost in translation" . But anyway, thanks for reacting to the greatest rock band on the planet.

Ron, Welcome to the world of Band-Maid. Roger does it again. Hopefully he's a new convert to the Band-Maid cult. Just joking Ron, but the band has a huge following both on the internet and in real life. Many of us are old rockers who have been disappointed by Western rock music for the past couple of decades. After we discovered this group, our love for GREAT rock and roll has been ignited. The band's first official live video, "Thrill" was released over ten years ago. The video actually saved the band from being disbanded by their record company. Their first three albums were all written by their record company. On their third album, the record company allowed them to record one song that Kanami Tono, their lead guitarist and now chief composer wrote. The song was titled "Alone". After that album, the band signed with another record company which allowed them to write and record all their own music. The rest is Band-Maid history with some incredible rock music coming from the group. They are not rock genre specific. They often incorporate different genres in one songs. Recently, the band released a new official music video title "Bestie". Mike Einziger of the rock band Incubus collaborated with them on the song, giving them the opening riff and the overall sound of the song. It will be well worth checking out to see the more laid-back softer ballad side of the band.

They are not a one trick pony, they also do entire acoustic concerts, they have several slower, more melodic, songs, they even have an alter ego called BAND-MAIKO that uses Japanese traditional instruments mixed into their music. If you want to check out more of them just ask the fans for a song that better matches the music you like. Cheers.

Normally the lyrics are written by Miku who is the Rhythm guitarist dressed in the more traditional maid outfit. This one though was written by Saiki the lead vocalist when during covid a friend of hers husband cheated on her. Saiki didn't like that very much. Hate? to be on her bad side. And their music is always written by Kanami, the lead guitarist.

This is one of the best comments I've ever read so I decided to steal it from @bobespirit2112 I was thinking of what I thought were some of Band-Maid’s Distinguishing Characteristics Some of the ways in which Band-Maid distinguishes themselves from other bands, in my mind, are: 1 - Living a life dedicated to the band. The band is a 24/7 focus of all their lives. Their work ethic is extraordinary for a rock band. They get together nearly every single day as a group to rehearse, compose and work on band business. It is an all-consuming pursuit for all of them. They don’t live comprehensive lives outside the band in their own focused world and then just get back together to do band things at certain stretches of time, like most bands do. This band is their life and that commitment and dedication shows in everything they do. 2 - Focus on Craft; in all aspects - composition, songwriting, instrumentation, orchestration, arrangement, playing and performance. No element of making music gets overlooked by the band and they all strive to improve in all these aspects, from what I can observe. 3 - Contribution by all members. Everyone contributes to the band in deeply significant ways. Although Kanami leads in composition and Miku in lyric songwriting; it appears they all make significant contributions to the development of every song. And then they all have involvement in different aspects of band business. They seem to do a good job of splitting the workload amongst the members. 4 - Positive Outlook. Some might see this as a drawback; where’s the tortured artist? But, really, there’s enough of that output all around; the Maid aesthetic and framework works best from a place of positivity and the Maids being an element of joy sorely lacking in the rock and metal world. Yet, they do this while still tackling real life challenges, relationships, heartaches, philosophical questions, etc in their lyrics. They merge these together in a way I’ve really not seen done as well in any other band.
