BAND-MAID: Let's take a look at MIKU'S Zemaitis Guitars

In this video I take a look at Miku's beautiful Zemaitis Guitars (and also a very special guitar I have on loan for this video).
This guitar belongs to my pal Mike - you can find his band here: / thedeadseasons

NOTE 2: The content of this video is based on an interview that Miku did at the end of 2020 where she was talking about her 6 main guitars. I had set the video as a premiere without realising that there has been an update at the Band-Maid concert of 11th February on Miku's signature model. I actually filmed my video before the concert. I have now made the video live as I do not want to give the impression that her new guitar is featured in it, that would not be the correct thing to do. My apologies for any confusion caused.

Mike is a good friend, for sure! Thanks for checking the video out, I really appreciate the support. I'm maybe going to do a video looking at the parts of "After Life" - especially Misa's bass line. It's absolutely incredible. I'm a musician, so I much prefer doing video's looking at what the musicians are doing in a song - rather than me just watching, reacting and saying that a song is good. I think that might be the case for that shape of V - I've seen James Herfield with a Zemaitis V before, but it's much more the standard V shape. The one Miku uses has a much softer shape and I think looks better. They really are beautiful guitars.

Yes, Miku was the first known artist to perform with their flying V LIVE in a concert. She played it at their 2020 Feb. Shibuya Concert. They offered it to her as the first artist. Now, she used it in their recent MV's and also played it at their online Okyu-ji just the other day.

From not even knowing how to play a guitar when the band was formed to being quite good these days. How far she has come, its really nice. It helps when Kanami is your teacher, but clearly Miku has been hard at work all these years and it shows, her parts in songs are more complex than before and she has a great tone too. If you want to check out the latest Band Maid Miku song, its "Sayonakidori" from their latest album Unseen World, she is the lead vocalist on that track and even has her own kind of solo midway through it. I say kind of because it is not a full blown solo, but a moment for her guitar skills to shine. Thank you very much for the video Dunsy and for learning the parts of the songs too!

She really has done so well. I watched an interview where she tells how Kanami is really helpful in showing her things. She has made a great choice of guitars too, these are fantastic instruments. I'll check out "Sayonakidori" today, thanks for the heads up on that.

Miku also has a pearl front Zemaitis. I don't know the model, but it was used in the MVs for Dice and Bubble. If I remember correctly, in the interview she says it's the guitar she uses at home.

Nice cover info. She also has the Pearl, and an Acoustic. Others already pointed out the new Signature pigeon and roses one. That is the first time Zemaitis has created a signature guitar ever. Pretty cool.

Miku just unveiled her Signature Model last week! It’s supposedly Zemaitis’ 1st ever signature model (in Japan at least). Miku sat down with the designer to customize the design. It’s got a metal front AND pearl inlays for the roses in the corner. Of course the carved pigeon motif representing herself. There are the numbers 5810 39 on the headstock which can be read as Ko-ba-to Mi-Ku. It says “GUITAR KURUPPO” between the pickups. (“kuruppo” is Miku’s pigeon sound / phrase). Also “M. K. & Zemaitis / Since 2016" instead of the usual "A. C. Zemaitis / Since 1955". (Miku Kobato has used Zemaitis since 2016). Edit: Btw you might be able to guess by now why it was 39 questions on that interview. 39 can be read as Miku in Japanese.

UPDATE, Miku now has a signature Zemaitis out now. Japan only, she designed and named it "Flappy Pigeon". Only 50 are to be issued, for now. But a demand for them is growing in Europe and the US.

There´s really a little problem with some instruments in Japan and women. Japanese women are generally small, Miku heigh is only 155 cm (5.1) and a lot of music women in Japan looks sometimes even smallers because the intruments are a little "big" for them, so an small guitar can looks better sometimes

Great job!. Really beautiful guitars thats looks so good in Miku´s hands. She´s a Rock Star. My favourite is the pearl fronted Zemaitis PFG24 RING Natural (expensive!), but I absolutely love the theme of the "Dead man´s hand" Aces & Eights in the front of a the a24mf. I don´t even know if Miku knows the story behind the design.

Her V was the first one produced. She had it before it was available for sale. There is a Greco version but it’s much more like a regular Flying V in size.

I was listening to After Life yesterday (I was planning on doing a video breaking down the parts), the bass line in that song is unbelievable. I cannot work out what she is playing, it is all over the neck and intertwining with the guitar lines. I mean, really good.

This one weighs just under 9lb. They're a bit thinner than a full fat Les Paul. Kinda between the width of a Special and a Standard. Very comfortable to play. Not a back breaker either. Unlike my 70's Les Paul's.

You missed one! In that interview, after she lists her acoustic guitars, she says that she also still owns her first guitar, a Rickenbacker 360. Check out the MV for Thrill, I'm pretty sure that's the Rickenbacker she's holding.

Come back to me when the Laser engravings chiseled by hand, and the Back plates flush with the surface, for Guitars in that Price range a must, "The Guitar is not so Heavy and then make a Metal plate over the whole Body. I had made a polished Aluminium plate for my Strat it was a hell of work to keep it quiet. Anyway have a good time playing

Here is her with an MFG V22 and a small Marshall Amp. Kanami who uses a PRS comes from the right.

They often play tuned down a half step to E-flat, MISA don't she plays in standard tune on the 5 string. Some songs are tuned to Drop-D on Miku's guitar.

Yeah, I noticed quite a few songs are tuned down and some with dropped D as well - they're pretty difficult to play, I can say that!

EMGs? Should have Lollar Imperials. Eb tuning isn’t ‘dropped’ its just standard tuning but a 1/2 step flat. ‘Dropped’ tuning is what you did here, lowering the bottom string a whole tone so it’s an octave below the 4th string, allowing you to play power chords with just one finger. Curious about the finish on the body, besides the metal. It looks like low-gloss french polish, very touchable and soft, unlike plasticky polyurethane typical to most modern guitars. I’ve done such hand-rubbed finish on several guitars and prefer the feel though it’s very time consuming since shellac of any sufficient thickness for a solid body guitar takes months to fully harden.

If you're going to speak in that wee voice, maybe you should turn your guitar down. If you don't balance your levels, it makes it look like you don't know anything about sound or audio.
