“Magie” being a German word meaning “Magic”, as explained by Saiki on twitter last October, after first live performance of the song.

Thanks for that. I was pretty sure that some how the title was supposed to be Magic in some way, and not magic lost in translation.

This song has really grown on me. I think you nailed it as far as its purpose being a fun song. It reminds me of Freedom in that it appears they have a lot of fun playing it.

Not my favorite Band-Maid song, but it does its job. Lots of hooks there ;) (that riff is mental!) Well, we are comparing Band-Maid to Band-Maid here so... I'd say, a great wake-up song for the crowd after a section with slower songs 😎🤘

Magi Pronounced MA-JI from Latin magi, plural of magus "Persian priest or wise man," from Greek magos "Persian priest, sorcerer" - related to magic......Probably

The Fox Theater in Atlanta is like that. Great for musicals, horrible for rock bands.

Yes, magic is magie in both German and French. And in Swedish it is magi. I wonder why they did choose magie, when the song is mostly sung in English.

Intead of pronouncing it like "Maggie", I think you should pronounce it like "magic" but with a "E" instead of the "c" - so "majie" - my guess though, we'll see when they pronounce it themselves.

Is it Magie (Maggie/Maggy short for Margaret) or is it Magi-e, like Hanabie?

Well it finally happened: Band-Maid have released a song I don't like. And it's 100% the chorus. It's too sing-songy for me. And the lyrics exacerbate that feeling. I usually don't care too much about lyrics, and I give 10,000 miles of leeway to their English lyrics. But these just make me picture a primary school teacher clapping her hands in front of a class of 5 year olds, "everybody dance on the beat!" I might be alone in that. Nevertheless, I wish they had a native English speaker on the team that they could run their English lyrics by to see how they sound to an English-speaking audience. Someone to say, "Yes that's what it *means*. It's accurate, technically. But it wouldn't be said this way in this situation." I also don't like that the start of the solo is the same as the start of the solo in "No God". Rest of the song is awesome! I love the riff A LOT, and the harmonies as well. But the biggest thing for me is Saiki's emotional singing. She puts a lot of "oomph" all over this track and I hope to hear a lot more of her doing that on the new album. You always say that they don't write catchy choruses but I disagree. I think they write choruses of exactly the catchiness that a rock band should have. I think for a lot of rock fans they're probably at or over the line into "too catchy". I know you love pop but I think if you put something that catchy into a Band-Maid song not only would it turn off a lot of listeners I think it probably wouldn't work; I think the juxtaposition would be too much. I think this happens in the first half of the chorus to "Carry On Living"; I think that first half sounds out of place in the song. Hoping for a quick recovery for you!

I'm not a fan of the chorus either. It somehow reminds me of Japanese folk songs, especially those used in bon odori (dances), which I've never really cared for. However, like for many Maids' songs, at some point my brain will just give in and accept it as legit. I like the rest of the song a lot.

I have the same feeling. I've heard the song several times since Yokohama Arena and that chorus bothers me. I literally end up skipping the song. The fact is that the rest is excellent, especially the main riff and the rhythm section. It seems strange to me that this infantile chorus harms the rest of the composition so much.

@@jwoodjapanYou nailed it. The chorus has the traditional festival music vibe. It probably vibes more with Japanese audience like me, with the feeling of nostalgia. But might sound a bit out of place for Western fans.
