J-LOD is a Japanese government program for the Arts, to help artists.musicians/etc weather the C=19 shutdowns. Bands, Groups, theater troupes etc, all submitted videos to the government program which were then actually broadcast on various programs sponsored by the Japanese government. Band-Maid's management company submitted 4 songs, Manners/Black Hole and Dice/Different for the program. And Manners is an unusual song for the Ladies. They originally wanted to call it "Rule", but thought that would be too stiff and formal, so they changed it to Manners. The idea is this is the Ladies setting out and saying, this is how we go forward on our way to World Domination. Where their music takes over the entire world, making them known all over. Like the song says, "Our Rock Never Dies". And Black Hole, is just that. It is taking you an journey through the singularity into a Black Hole and through to the other side. The chaos is intentional to disorient you as you journey with them through space and time. And Yes Miku uses an EVH 5150, and Kanami uses a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier, set so she can use all 3 channels. Kanami has her wet channel, her dry channel then her "Solo" stereo channel. During her solos, she activates a function from her pedal board controller which splits her cabinet into stereo, which is why her cab has 2 microphones on it, and Miku's only has 1. When Kanami goes to solo, she takes up the right channel and part of the left/center channel. When she is not soloing, her signal is firmly in the right channel, while Miku's is firmly left channel, and MISA's Bass is panned center left. Leaving Akane's kit to be mixed center channel with Miku's and Saiki's vocals. Also if you watch/listen carefully, when MISA starts experimenting, Miku plays locked in to the kick drum, taking over part of the bass line, allowing MISA to weave her way through the music. I can explain more about how the Ladies developed their sound if you like, but this comment is already rather long.

Whenever I think about their world domination, I think about the fake band from the Bill & Ted movies, Wyld Stallyns, and how their music created world peace. I remember some comment on a reaction talking about how listening to some other bands made them want to destroy stuff, but listening to Band Maid made them feel like they could solve world hunger. I can't rule out Miku doing it.

Saiki has been Band-Maids lead singer since she was a teen. They are celebrating ten years together and will be in the US playing a couple of music festivals in May. Onset is an instrumental that I hope you react to.

Glad you noticed the EVH 5150. Miku used to have Marshall but Peavy offered her sponsorship. All the girls have sponsors. Kanami, Mega boogie (now Gibson) and and PRS. Miku Zemaitis and Peavy, MISA, Orange amps and Black Cloud Basses. Akani, Tama and Zyljan. These girls are better known that the US would believe.

Thanks for the nice reaction. What is good about this band? to me, it's all about the song writing. Their versatile style is really fun and brings me back to the days, when I was crazy about Queen, KISS, Zepp, Sabbath...all those hard rock bands. BTW, do you know any other bands in history, playing guitar solo and bass solo at the same time🤣?

Listen to enough Japanese Rock and the lyrics take on more meaning... but agree are not necessary (90% of time) to enjoy the music. These online performance songs definitely a showcase for the Maids' versatility. Both songs from their album "Unseen World". The MV for Manners is also great, but this version definitely belongs to the vocalist Saiki.

Remarkable versatility displayed with these two songs, as well, as you said, great skill. I’m always amazed at their vocal melodies and harmonies - in Black Hole how they take such an aggressive song and still make it “pretty”. The Pigeon hole never disappoints!! Next, something a little slower …? - “Endless Story” - official MV - is a pretty unique feel for Band-Maid - “Wonderland” - official live video - Saiki’s vocals really shine over an intricate and beautiful composition by the band. - “Start Over” - official MV - a straight pop rock song (except for Saiki’s ending 😂)

@@mightyV444 hell yea. music is super subjective, so everyone will like different songs. Black hole is syncopated out of this world. It made me feel stupid the first time i heard it. band-maid has about 120 songs to explore if you wanted to check out more. A large majority of them are seriously good too.

"Manners" is an absolute funk groove. Misa, their bassist, says this song is her favorite song to play. "Black Hole" is such a frenetic song. On purpose. It emulates the feeling of being sucked into a black hole in space (or in a relationship).

"Black Hole" uses the perceived notion of falling into a black hole as a metaphor for starting a new relationship. All the unknown anticipation, anxiety, and exploration involved.

I wouldn't say they don't know what the words mean as you stated. Japanese teach english as a second language all through grade school. If you listen to english songs, do you think their inflection points for words don't change depending on the song? Maybe not. To each their own(lyrics mean everything to some people), but getting hung up on it may hinder you from enjoying the music as much. Great reaction btw
@IanBennetts
@IanBennetts Жыл бұрын
In the song 'Dice' ( which just happens to be my favourite) they have the word "childish" but they pronounce it "chill-dish". An English band would never do that. However, I have no idea whether this is intentional, I think the correct pronunciation would sound wrong with the stressed hard i. I often wonder how they often come up with really great English lyrics and then have these anomalies thrown in from time to time. No matter though it just makes their songs all the more interesting.
@limitlesscombo6998
@limitlesscombo6998 Жыл бұрын
 @Ian Bennetts Agree some of it may be mispronounciation. Agree some may seem random because it lacks context. Probably harder for first time listeners if they don't have subtitles as well, it would all be a bunch of japanese then random english(no context w/no subtitles). True english singers wouldn't pronounce words exactly like bandmaid. But there are songs that people know and will sing with the wrong lyrics, then find out the actual lyrics, I'd say it's partially due to inflections. I thought it was a bit of jumping to a conclusion for him to say they don't know the words that they're singing because they mispronounced it. English/foreign borrowed words are common, so english words but written in japanese on signs with japanese pronounciation. Also in schools lots of Japanese students see an english word in front of them then say it with japanese inflection. Particularly hard are the english L/R sounds as they move their mouth differently for those sounds in Japanese. If english speakers said japanese words that have an L/R they sounds a bit silly as well.

I actually enjoy the off-kilter pronunciations and grammar, I think they add some interest (same with some Finnish bands I like). After all, "Breaking New Gate" became a fan catchphrase largely _because_ it's not something you'd hear from the Anglosphere. And "Our rock never dies, ever - forever" is waaaaay more memorable than just "never ever dies" or "lives forever."

Interesting that the perception of the 2nd song is "wild" and "chaos". The fact is, the 2nd song is a masterpiece of puzzle pieces put together in very precise and complicated way by each member. It must have taken months to perfect that piece, wherein the 1st piece is likely just feeding off the vocalizations, and massively easier to have put together.

I think, and I'm not an expert, but I'm almost certain there is a 5150 in there what style specifically I can't say though. Who's using it I couldn't tell you either I know Misa (the bassist) uses Orange as well. The lead guitarist Kanami has very different guitar tones though I've noticed probably not so much a factor of amp but maybe relevant. Very whiny sometimes, pretty chunky other times. She's pretty low in the mix by design too but she's always doing something interesting. Very Unique. Such a great band in so many ways and what a good reaction too keep it up you two love seeing your Band Maid reactions so far!

Their earlier albums are more classic rock sounding. Manners was a bit of a return to that, on the much more hard rock/metal album Unseen World 2021, which also has Black Hole on it. Lyrics for both songs from the genius that is Miku (red rose).
