BAND-MAID songs are all difficult to sing in karaoke. So the members (probably Saiki and Akane) asked Kanami to make a song that could be sung in karaoke. Kanami siad "Sure". Many fans complained about this song. "Too poppy". In response to the complaint, BAND-MAID has released RINNE. In any case, BAND-MAID does BAND-MAID things. They show the top musicianship.

Akane, my favorite drummer ever, replacing the likes of John Bohnam and Neil Peart. Her tool kit is just massive, so creative. It's always been the sound she gets for me. She is always present but not overbearing. I would not say she is a better soloist than either Bohnam or Peart, I wouldn't put it past her in the future though. But in song drumming, give me Akane any day. So smart, knowing exactly what and how to play, whenever, and how she can compliment all her mates when it is their time to shine. She has what I think all the members have, very, very high musical sensibility. She is still young. I don't think she will stop growing for a while yet. And seriously, what she did on Unseen World! You don't get that good unless you are loving what you are doing.

Here’s my take on this tune Ryan! It may be a little half-measured but here it goes! There was a time where Kanami had a bit of writers block, whatever she was going thru, idk! She couldn’t come up with any music, as you can see in the video, it metaphorically explains what she was going thru!!!! By now you know how close the band is so they got together and inspired Kanami, start over was born! The very last line signifies the change that was made to move forward! As you know they did!

I'm coming to realize that, one, I love every song that Band-Maid performs, and two, that for their MVs I prefer that they be the main focus of the MV and that if they need other elements that they should be simple like in the MVs "Endless Story" and "Dice." I mostly like the live videos but some of the MVs are very good like "Manners, " "Daydreaming," "Don't you tell ME," and "Blooming." Also my "Unseen World" scorebook arrived today, 2 days early. Only had time to glance so far but it's gorgeous. Looking forward to reading the interviews and listening to the CD tomorrow.

haha, I remember when I first heard this song when it was brand new. I had to play it quite a few times. but that first time I heard Saiki say "I don't give a F...." OMG I died. I was like holy S did she really just say that? it was a powerful ending to such a great groove and funky pop feel to an emotional packed video. It was what Band-Maid is often about, creating that gap between what you expect and what is delivered. It got a lot of hate at first from those that expect something specific. and it's a perfect example of how difficult it can be to listen without prejudice. No matter how hard I try, once I fall in love with a band, there are changes, things they do, curveballs, that I don't see or feel coming and sometimes one has to put the song down, walk away and come back to it before one can really listen to it with a fresh and open mind. I imagine this song was like that for many Band-Maid fans. But it is really a good song that I come back to often. I actually prefer to listen to it without this particular video as I'm not a fan of the non-Band-Maid actors they chose for this MV. (not sure why they just don't fit properly for me) nice reaction Ryan, I enjoyed it.

The MV takes criticism, but the parts showing the band are spectacular with the bright light in the white room. I was a Dream Theater fan for almost 30 years until Band-Maid kicked them off the throne. If you think there is much bitching and whining on BM channel about song and albums the fans doesn't like, you've seen nothing yet. Over at DT's YT channel the bitching, whining and moaning are endless no matter what song or album DT have out. DT fans doesn't seem to be very happy about their favorite band. And then Portnoy left or got the boot (I don't care which is was) and Mike Mangini came on board, Mangini being one of the best drummers ever to exist was not good enough for the hard core fans, damn it took him 10 years until the last album of DT to be accepted and recognizied by some of the fans. When it comes to the fanbase of Band-Maid it's more like a lovefest compared to the fanbase of DT. This is something I find very pleasing with Band-Maid fans, they seem to get along very well with little bitching and whining :-) I'll follow Band-Maid to the end of time that is for sure, the best band in the world will probably only get getter with time, and they are damn good already.

Seemed pretty different from the rest of the playlist but was something so addictive as well... the chorus right after "it's very simple" is something that got me right into it in the first listen. Love Saiki's tone. There is no Kanami solo in it but didn't felt it needed anyway. The only thing I DON'T like about "Start Over" is that I had to buy the "simple" version of the single and not that special box with photo cards and Zepp Live full concert and those extras CD's... the price at that time was already high up. Hey Ryan, big fan of your reactions, specially with BAND-MAID because they're my favorite band in the last... i don't know, 20 years?, yeah i'm "one of those B-M fans" too lol They way the put so much creativity into every song is just awesome. Even with more radio-friendly pop songs like Start Over, wich i personally love because i'm not an usual "die-hard-rock" fan. In fact my second favorite band is SCANDAL, who are another all-girl band but completely the opposite to the Maids. Fun Fact: Akane and Haruna (SCANDAL's vocalist and rhythm guitar) are good friends and you can see them having fun together in older Akane's instagram posts. Anyway, what i was trying to say is no matter how "simple" a song from B-M could looks at first listen, they always add something extra to make it sounds fantastic. And come on... BTS (Bulletproof Boyscouts) is one of the best biggest modern examples of how an Asian band had to (yet still ongoing) tackle the xenophobia, isolationism, cultural bias & prejudice from such places as in the US. (in general). People may not fully understand & comprehend those difficulties until they find & fall in love with another band, such as Band-Maid, who are Asian as well, & find that the Maids also get the same treatment, although not as harsh as with BTS, simply because the Maids are not as huge as BTS. But just as with BTS's fandom (ARMY), so too have Band-Maid's fans (Maidiac, informally accepted) found that human language is not a barrier as long as we love the music, since music is considered the Universal language. One way to get the Maids more hype is to get them onto the TV screens & radio airwaves in the US. Asian language songs are highly difficult to spin on US radio. Spanish is ok because Spanish is considered a secondary language in the States. The Maids could also have their instrumental music as background scores in US commercials, without showing the gals. Tease people a little. Then someone watching the advertisement will say, "That music is cool, who is that?" Then perhaps, from that point on, a new Maidiac(s) will emerge after falling into that pigeon hole. Music festivals are also a great vehicle & venue to show off the Maids, something as big as Coachella & Woodstock.
@Parker--2 жыл бұрын
The language barrier is probably the biggest hurdle for Band-Maid for rock fans. For the general populous, the biggest hurdle is that nobody cares about rock anymore and that's sad but true. The three genres the US cares most about are Pop, Country (or "Twang Pop" if we want to be more accurate with the genre), and Technically Hip Hop (but not the bumpin hip hop of the 90s and 00s). And then a distant fourth is Indie Rock, which, to me is fine, but it isn't actual rock. Everything else is just so far behind in popularity. There's like 15 million people in the US total that are willing to listen to new hard rock/metal music. That's like 5 percent, and honestly, that feels generous.

Maidiacs, please visit BM's YT channel and play Start Over as much as you can to get it past 2M views. The composition is great, MISA and Akane makes it groove. Saiki's vocals are stellar and Miku's chorus and harmonies blends so well it's almost disappears but it's clearly there, damn great song. The lyrics ends with the words: I don't give a fuck, be born again. I believe those words was aimed at their former record label, but don't quote me on that, I may be wrong.

The first song after World Domination, first single in a long time showing a different and delicate face of the band. In its day Start Over caused enough comments from the die-hard fans to make Kanami sad. I think today, after UW and Sense, more than one of those inquisitors should be ashamed. Kanami ended up exhausted after doing WD, the stress even affected her health, so the girls decided to change their way of working by sharing greater decision and songwriting workloads so no one had to vomit due to the pressure of a schedule imposed by the business. The most important thing about this song, that always goes unnoticed, is that this song is the band's first joint work, the first time they began to share songwriting and arranging efforts and Saiki´s strategic direction. The beginning of the current songwriting dynamic, the unbeatable success that has seen them release 20 stratospheric hits in a row from December 2020 to December 2021. I love listening to Band Maid with your comments Ryan!. Thanks. PD: Akane, drums hero...

This is why I love Ryan, he could rip on the song and dwell on the negative but instead he highlights the positive and finds the beauty inside. He doesn't give a fuck, people okay?

Fairly pop sounding but still has a great composition with cool drum patterns you pointed out. “ I don’t give a fuck” is the cherry on top.

Kanami wasn't a musician who composed or played hard rock and heavy metal songs (in an uneasy word, "(fans) all like shred guitar, right?", A music magazine said. I remember). When he was worried about the direction of the band's music, Kobato said that he listened to a song called Thrill and all the band members agreed that "this is the song that we can most understand (hard rock)" and decided the direction of the band. Said Saiki in an interview with the magazine. Band-maid, who became a hard rock band, rushed to the album "domination", and as a result, "I came up with a way to pull the sound from stuffing it," Kanami answered in an interview with the magazine. (I think the songs "bubble" and "hide and seek" overlap at that time). After that, Kanami seemed to be worried about "what kind of song should I make as a hard rock band", and the members were worried about Kanami who was worried and suggested "let's go back to the start line". I also answered in an interview that the song I made was "start over". By the way, at that time, it was written in the blog "I want to talk about Band-Maid(band-maidを語りたい)" that Mr. Saiki declared at a local live venue that "We are a maid band pursuing hard rock". In addition, it was stated in the magazine that Mr. Kanami advised Mr. Akutsu, who composed the thrill, "Make one guitar riff a day" and practiced it seriously. from japan. Since it is a machine translation, I think that there are some details and meanings that are not correctly conveyed, but please forgive me.

Ryan! It is raining and cold and I am waiting for the Dragon and cooking for her (Potato and Oyster Gratin) and I need a band Maid and a reaction of yours to prepare myself for the eventual smoldering by the local Dragon! Am I hen-pecked husband? Definitely! LOL Great reaction from the guts! There will always be crybabies who complain that their loved bands change tack from time to time (Bob Dylan in particular suffered from that, but I already told you!)! The Fornicate Under Consent of the King word was a beauty, was it not? And it probably shocked nobody! IT like their "shut up!" in Rinne, too! LOL The right word, the right amount, the right time! They might have made this song karaoke-friendly but it will be a challenge for amateur singers! LOL Nothing to add to your comments, though! Looking forward to your next reaction, Band Maid or not! Now, where did I put that bottle of sake? Misery me! Best regards, Robert-Gilles

And live that song is even better (even if, sadly, the piano was a backing track - I'd love to see Kanami playing keys on stage for a part of a song or two). For me, the main problem with the MV is the cheezy couple - I think Start Over was used for a drama and those images comes from it. And then there was the angst that some fans felt about "Band-Maid becoming soft pop" - the band's answer was Rinne 😅 .

I'm amazed at how much people base liking a song or not on the video......I barely remember the video, I was listening to the song!

Start over wasn't used for a drama, that's just the video they made.

I wonder if Saiki knew this song was going to get criticized by the fans and asked Miku/Kanami if she could add the idgaf at the end 🤣🤣🤣

I don't understand why anyone would dislike this song, it's yet another example of their incredible versatility apart from being a great song. This and Anemone are my favourites for Akane's drumming, yes she can beat the heck out of the kit but when she grooves like this there is no one better and of course a perfect fit for the song.

This song is as equally polarizing as TDC. I think much of the backlash/criticism of this song was how MUCH of a departure it was from the World Domination sound that preceded it. I'll admit I was one of those who hated this song and especially the video when it came out. Now, having listened to it again with some time and distance I will happily admit it is a good song, but not a great song. Yeah, the musicianship and composition are 100% Band-Maid and with that comes a high level of attention to detail and execution. But where it fits in terms of Band-Maid's catalog is an outlier, imo. It is unquestionably Band-Maid but the real pop side of Band-Maid. I believe this was their attempt at making a radio friendly song that would appeal to a mass audience. Unfortunately many fans were not real thrilled about it (no pun intended). But, in true Band-Maid fashion they just kept doing their own thing and Saiki's lyrics at the end are all you need to know about fan criticism. ;)

The thing I don't understand about this song is how they didn't expect negative reactions when releasing it as a single after World Domination, which was pretty much a metal album.
