MISA! MISA! MISA! Holding the line in Solid Guitar Rock, Band Maid has picked up the Mantel of Rock'n'Roll where the West has left it behind! If Pop-punk is all you think they do, you would be incorrect...but it is part of their history. They go from formulaic basic structure type songs to strong Prog-Rock to the edge of Metal, Jazz influences to mixing in traditional Japanese instruments. These women are Solid! All of their songs are good, not a bad one in the batch, and more than some are absolutely Fantastic!! Keep in mind that when they started, the music was written for them by the production company but as they gained control of their group in 2015-2016, they were then able to move forward with all their own writing and stylistic choices. Its fun to watch the progression! And, they are also one of the best Live Bands out there right now. They play tight, their live sound is damn near studio quality..and I don't mean just the post produced stuff, but the actual live gigs. One of the best out there. Check out "Domination" Live or "Freedom" Live to see what we mean! Rock'n'Roll aint dead Baby!! It just went EAST!! Put yoru Kitsune UP!! Po!

Honestly it took me a solid two weeks of listening to Band Maid on a daily basis to really "get" who this band is. Do they do heavy? Hell yeah. But also hard rock, metal, blues and pop punk. The most diverse band out there right now. Comparisons are a waste of time. Totally unique and talented to the max. Try Rinne, Domination live or Manners and Afterlife from their latest album.

You have just found your new favorite ROCK band. The ladies know how to rock the house and are at their best during live concerts in front of their fans. That's when you'll see their prowess on the instruments they play. Try DOMINATION-LIVE (the quintessential Band-Maid), ONSET-LIVE (instrumental- the way rock is meant to be played). They have amazing synergy and uniqueness, sense of melody, songwriting and arrangements, riffs and grooves, excellent vocals and harmonies. Always a FUN vibe. No egos here, everyone is a featured player. Band-Maid just had a cameo appearance in the new Netflix movie KATE last month. Blooming was one of the featured songs in the movie along with Choose Me. They have over 100 songs in their 8 year catalog and not a one would you skip over. They do not fail. Ever. BAND-MAID is awesome. Peace.

Cool reaction. BAND-MAID is one of my favorites bands now. They have a wide range of styles that goes from straight hard rock, to more metal, funk, punk, pop, blues and jazz influences. This song in particular is more on their pop punk side, so I really suggest you to check out more songs to get a full approach of what they can deliver, the contrasts in their music is remarkable (for example "Manners" is very blues rock oriented, "Start Over" is a straight pop song, "Wonderland" has a groovy jazzy feel or "Warning!" with a more speed metal vibe). What I like the most about them is how they balance the contribution of every member, so in their songs there's always room for the drums and bass to shine, they're not always guitar centered, so, for me, they construct their song in a very smart way. Their "heavier" songs could be "Rinne", "Screaming" or "Black Hole" and most of the stuff in their new album "Unseen World" which is more heavy than their previous releases (check out the song "No God" which has some kind of a Motörhead type of rhythm, pop punk chorus and a heavy groove funky bass line) If you're looking for heavier japanese bands, maybe Nemophila will do it for you more than BAND-MAID. And don't forget to check out Crystal Lake, I think you will love them. I suggest you the song "Omega" to start with. Cheers dude!!

Heavier stuff, different stuff? They are the most versatile band i know, they do punk, rock, funk, metal, jazz and creating their own style.What i especially love about them is they don´t really care about the genre, their main-songwriter (Kanami-lead guitar) is for sure heavy rock influenced, but Akane and MISA (drum n bass) are trained in jazz, so they can pull off a lot of different things. You should watch an LIVE video from their channel, they always do new intros, outros, solos in their shows and it´s always a surprise what they have created especially for this show. They are REALLY creative and over 100 songs in round about 8 years is a statement! I love them, they brought my joy back in terms of music! As the other comments say, Band-Maid does all kinds of stuff. If you want heavy, here are my recs: "Warning" (hard-charging punk metal), "Different" (prog punk metal), "Rinne" (classic metal); "Black Hole" (prog speed punk metal) (it's part of a two-part video with "Manners" a classic rock groove song). Other hard rocks suggestions include live "Domination" (see Band-Maid at their best, which is live) and "No God" for a Motorhead-style hard rock, metal, funk song. At the core of all their songs are a pop sensibility, which adds a bit of catchiness.

As some other have noted. Rinne would be their heaviest song. Manners/Black Hole would be blues/funk rock and prog rock. Domination and Freedom Live are popular requests. Band Maid, like many Japanese bands actually shine live. Live is their strength. But, they are more rock than metal, the main composer’s main influence is Carlos Santana not Maiden or Priest. Some other Japanese bands to consider: Nemophila-Dissension (if you like screams), Oiran live 2021 (some screams), fighter (no screams) Unlucky Morpheus: Black Pentagram, Angreifer, symphonic metal with a twist Ningen Isu: Heartless Scat, Namahage, the Japanese Black Sabbath, been doing it for a long time and still putting out great music. Gacharic Spin: Mindset, I Wish I, jazzy, funky, very progressive Wagakki Band: Homura/Akatsuki no Ito, Yashiwara Lament or Senbonzakura, rock/metal with traditional twist, very unique band.

Welcome aboard, freerobewhoibe. You are embarking on (along with many others - 120 million YT views!) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (over 100 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XWaJppgpJnorM Their later songs from albums Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, H-G-K, Black Hole, Different, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts! And many are represented with nearly 40 well produced music videos. kzbin.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts. Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 (bandmaidprime.tokyo) and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids are excellent. Here’s four of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. These two taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZCUpZttmNmag9E, and a fun, wonderful live performance in Amsterdam of Miku introducing "Don't You Tell Me" (with MISA & Kanami's great instrumental exchange) and "Turn Me On” (with MISA's solo intro): kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZe8gqKNd9GGps0. The next one was taken by JT Dayo in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqasinWhdt6Veas, and finally by JOSER8845 in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6S6i6mifKx3idU. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 27 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 30 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 30 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 28 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. [BAND-MAID NEWS] ■ BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. ** NEW ** Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have finally included the ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts at their Prime website! As a fellow member of the "Old Grey Man Who Knows Nothing" Club (Grumpy Old Fart division,lol), the thing that I do know is that Band-Maid, IMHO, is the best rock band in the world today! As far as their outfits, Miku(founder, twin tails, red rose, 2nd vocals,rhythm guitar and lyricist), used to work in Maid cafes. She thought it would be interesting to combine "cute Maid clothes with cool music". For something harder: "Warning" mv or live, "SecretMyLips" mv, "Real Existence" live, "Manners/Black Hole" live, "Rinne" mv, for starters! Do they have harder stuff? Yep. Softer? Yep. Proggier stuff? Yep. On and on, this genre ignoring (they are their own genre) band needs you to listen to a minimum of five if not ten of their songs before you really have any clue how versatile and addicting they can be. They are hard rock at their core, but venture in and out of that at will, sometimes touching on 3 or 4 genres in one song. Go to their YT Page, and for harder stuff, try the Rinne MV. For something more complex structurally but still loads of fun, see Domination Live version (you have to see them live to appreciate their talent), for a Power Ballad to shed a tear to, go for Daydreaming MV. Other superb live performances include an instrumental Onset, Play, Choose Me, or the earlier track but still a fave Real Existence Live. Listen to Different for a speed anime song, No God for crazy good songwriting with multiple genres in one song, or my faves Manners MV and Bubble MV for super hard grove rock. You get the idea? They can do whatever they want, and they do - and it always sounds like them even though the songs may have zero in common with their other songs. Their songwriting and arranging skills are from another planet, and they are all great musicians. One connecting theme in their music is that it is rarely "dark" (exception is another great bluesy groove song The Dragon Cries), but usually very uplifting and smile inducing. The more you listen to one song the more layers and sounds you'll hear that you never heard before. I am a hard core jazz and classic prog rock guy usually and I still love these ladies. They're my favorite band that is currently active.

Blooming is certainly an interesting introduction. One thing they are noted for, as it happens, is NOT following the standard song structure. The 2nd verse very commonly has a different arrangement to the first, for example. You'll get many suggestions. Many of these will be for live songs. This is partly because they are a great live band, but also because they often add extra intros/solos for songs, just for one tour, and people really like these 'extras'. Ignoring that though, I'll recommend another MV - "Dice" kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKGkiqGMf71sebs One of the odd things about the band is that they have no 'big songs' that you'd always expect to be played at every show. There's almost no consensus about what their best songs are, but 'Dice' is one that would be up there (and oddly it's one of the very few that doesn't sound better live - the mix in the MV is just perfect).

You will soon be hit by an avalanche of Band-Maid fans (maidiacs), but since you wanted to know if they have something heavier, or what style they usually play, here is a quick description: Their core is hard-rock, but they swerve into funk, pop, metal, even jazz and blues. When you put on a Band-Maid song, you won't really know what you will get. They tend to use simple song structures and a play length around 4 minutes, but the content, as you have noticed, is not so simple. Also, they really shine playing live, so official Live videos are preferred whenever possible. So, to give you some suggestions: Rinne (their metal song) Onset Live (instrumental, is the song which everyone seem to like, including metal heads) Play Live (groovy jam session) Manners / Blackhole Live (it is a double feature video. Manners is groovy but low tempo. Blackhole is their fastest song they have, very hectic) Warning Live (high energy fast paced song, very busy drums) Thrill Live (their MV debut, pretty simple song, but the sound is heavy. It is 7 years old) Giovanni, No MV (closest they get to prog, has a different song structure to what they usually play)

OK, Socrates, let's illustrate it with numbers. Say, "Different" is 1. "Blooming" would be something like 50. "Anemone" would be like 100. On the other hand, "Screaming" is rather close to "Different," let's say, it's 2. And then there is "DIlemma," which is rather similar to "Screaming," let's say it's 3. So, you have to talk to Desсartes, Socrat. He'll explain to you how to quantify the different differences. Assign a grade to each song, and position them on X axis. On Y axis, picture the relative strength of this grading. Isn't it a beautiful picture?

Do they have any different sound music or do other styles??? Blooming is just the tip of the tip of the iceberg. If you want some heavier stuff, the first go to is Rinne, Black Hole, and Giovanni are good places to start. For some scorching instrumentals try Without Holding Back or onset. Other folks can direct you to more of their amazing music. When ever you think that you have figured out what category Band Maid fits into they turn everything upside down. I have finally excepted that Band Maid do not fit into specific styles or genres. Band Maid is a sound.

That’s the beauty of music; it speaks differently to each individual. I’m in my late 50’s and I absolutely love Band Maid - definitely my current favorite band and it’s not even close with any other active band. I was a Rush fanatic from 1979 onward but they ended in 2015 and I’ve been looking for someone to reignite my passion for music since then and it was Band Maid that finally did it. I love what they can put into a 3-4 song with their instrumental virtuosity without ever over complicating the SONG in much the same way Rush did - and typically with a positive lyrical spin. Although I’ve enjoyed the occasional great album from other artists over the decades from the likes of U2, Eric Johnson, GNR, Temple of the Dog/Pearl Jam, Oasis, Foo Fighters, Muse, Kings of Leon, etc. it’s been pretty slim pickings outside the output from Rush, Yes, Robert Plant, SRV, Tom Petty and some other classic rock artists over the years. That is until Band Maid - they are fabulous and in today’s world, I’ll take Band Maid over anyone.

Please don't try to classify Band-Maid genre/sub-genre, because you can eventually end-up in a mental ward. Band-Maid often juggling genres within a single song, and they got already 100+ of them, mostly timeless masterpieces. It's much more than any other band can achieve in their lifetime. Band-Maid' music is a genre on their own, you can call it maidal, maid-rock, wabi-sabi rock, zen-rock etc. They are getting more sophisticated/progressive through their timeline, while keeping their music in congenial framework to please a wider audience. They are "maids" after all.

Welcome to the world of Band Maid! You will become a MAIDIAC! You will learn soon enough that these ladies ROCK! They are a very talented group. They are all well trained in various instruments. They are a multi genre band - acoustically and hard rock. A good range explanation would be ABOUT US (a song for us fans during COVID) acoustic/balad style and then RINNE or BLACK HOLE on the metal side. Many songs in between these Miku Kobato - RHYTHM GUITAR - plays Zemaitis C24MF (Zemaitis Endorsement - with a Signature Guitar called Flappy Pigeon) - EVH Amps - Writes the lyrics - Has only been playing guitar for about 7 years. Was the singer but took a back seat voluntarily! KANAMI TONO - LEAD GUITAR - plays PRS Custom 24 (PRS Endorsement) - Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier. - Writes the music (one interview she states that she has a database - 2 years worth?!?!) Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - (Black Cloud Endorsement) Orange AB200B MKIII Amps Akane Hirose - DRUMS - Plays TAMA drums with Zildjian Cymbals - Roland KD-A22 (Possibly an Endorsement with TAMA and ROLAND) Saiki - VOCALS - Sennheiser microphones and DPA Microphones

The BAND-MAID catalog comprises many musical styles. As you continue your journey, pay attention to: the musical compositions and arrangements by Kanami; the magical harmonies and twin lead vocals of Saiki and Miku; the best rhythm section in the business; and the uplifting lyrics by Miku. Your very next reaction must be Domination live, from the Before Times to understand th e charisma of the band members and the magic of the BAND-MAID concert experience. For heavy and progressive: Rinne (“Rin’nay), No God (live), Different, Onset (live), and Black Hole (live). For heart-breaking ballads: Wonderland (live), Daydreaming, and About Us. For great rock: Thrill (original MV), Non-Fiction Days, Yolo, Bubble, etc.

Looks like the 'Old Grey Man" was getting into it.....Lol! Hope you stay around for more. "Rinne" is a little harder tune but Band-Maid choruses are always catchy and some say "Poppy" but they always stick in your head. They have a general genre bit you can't pin any genre on them as you'll see by listening to more of their tunes. Kanami's (lead guitar) is the main songwriter and mix many genre's in one song and make it work. They are ever evolving whereas their latest album from earlier this year is more on the progressive side, IMHO. They also have a soft side, "About Us" written as a tribute to their fans, Miku (Rhythm Guitar) is the lyricist. So Miku writes the lyrics, Kanami writes the music but they all collaborate their talent for the best outcome. Enjoyed your reaction, Cheers!

BAND MAID is a hard rock band, but it's a very diverse band. Listen to different types of songs. 1 Thrill : The first music video that saved them from dissolution. Classic rock 2014 2 Bubble : A tribute to the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, funky rock 3 Different : First anime opening song, new sense of high-speed rock. Anime is Log Horizon 3rd season. 4 Daydreaming : Beautiful power ballad. Kobato's backing vocals and Kanami's guitar solo are wonderful. 5 Dice : Rhythmic hard rock singing women's independence 6 about us : A gift for fans who cannot meet in a pandemic. Beautiful ballad. 7 Freedom : A power rock that walks around the stage and conveys a smile. The transition from drum solo to lead guitar is the best. 8 Manners : Declaration to create new hard rock while inheriting classic rock. Cool hard rock. Rock'n'Roll never die. 9 alone : The song they wrote, composed and released for the first time. Medium speed Hard Rock 2016 10 Secret My Lips and Secret Maiko Lips : Funky Hard Rock. A gift for fans of April Fool's Day . 11 Blooming : Vocals and chorus are impressive, and various types of music are fused. 12 RINNE : High-speed rhythmic heavy rock, inspired by the Japanese horror movie "RINNE : Reincarnation". RINNE (Reincarnation) is also found in Eastern thought and Buddhist thought. 13 onset : Instrumental song for lead singer Saiki breaks, their great playing power and harmony. Added ★ Peace & Love : Founder Miku Kobato's solo project. Pigeon saves the world. Funky pop rock.

If you want a more metal sounding song then maybe check RINNE. I also recommand their live perfromances Band-Maid generally mixes a lot of genres, but their main thing is hard rock with good catchy choruses, they often have some progressive rock elements, they do dive into metal sometimes but it's not their main thing to do, they also mix in some blues rock, punk rock, funk rock into what they do. What makes the band good is how great and intricate the instrumentalists are, they not too flashy but they are very dynamic throughout the song and always make the song interesting as you pick up new things after each listen, they always love to add in interesting melodies and change things up. The basslines are also pretty incredible, the bass riffs and melodies are sometime as important and interesting as the lead guitar in a lot of their songs.

Though they consider themselves Hard Rock, you can't rally "pigeonhole" them into one genre. They have many influences, Power Pop, Punk, Funk, Jazz & Metal. They shapeshift effortlessly from one to another, sometimes within the same song. LIVE is where they really shine, but songs, like 'Blooming are best seen in the Music Video format, as are their 'April Fool's Day persona, BAND-MAIKO videos, those one of those was originally a BAND-MAID song. And if you're a Metal guy I suggest you react to their heavies, most Metal influenced song, 'Rinne' next. Don't choose the LIVE option of that. It's a Live-To-Tape abbreviated version for a television show.

Which their stage presence and stage quirks I think you will love them even more. Many others have already described the range of styles their music covers, so I can't really add to that. However, I wanted to make a comment about the lyrics. My wife has an English degree with a focus on literary criticism, along with an analytical mind like Sherlock Holmes, so she'll catch metaphors and meanings in things that I had no clue about. So when I got her to watch some Band-Maid videos with me, she had some surprising things to say about the lyrics. Specifically that Blooming is an intensely sexual song, but from a woman's point of view. Blooming flowers are often a metaphor for awakening sexuality, and there are other lines in the song that hint at a strong inner conflict with intense desire and longing. Of course, translating Japanese lyrics to English is tricky, since a lot of idioms and layers of meaning don't carry over easily. Like, a given kanji can be read in several different ways. On the surface it can mean one word that fits into the song lyrically, but an alternate reading can give the line a much different meaning, and both interpretations are deliberate. You can see how that kind of thing is hard to express in a straight-across translation. Anyway, thanks for the video. It was fun to see you get drawn into the song as it went on, even if its overall sound didn't quite grab you. If you feel like you could use something to make you smile, Band-Maid songs are a good bet.

Getting lost in the songs of the ladies is something you should get used to if you pay more attention to their music. :) Even though they describe themselves as hard rocking maids, genre boundaries don't necessarily play a big role. It doesn't matter if it's pop-punk, classic rock 'n' roll to metal or more soulful power ballads. Their catalog offers pretty much everything. And the best thing about it? The talent of each (!) one of these ladies doesn't just shine through in the studio recordings. Their true home is on stage in front of an audience. I would recommend you to watch the video 'Manners / Black Hole' as it impressively proves how versatile this band is. MISA MISA MISA! Band-Maid isn't for you probably, yes they have maybe 2 heavier songs but most are solidly in the Rock genre (Hard Rock, Punk Rock, Prog Rock and good old ROCK) NOT METAL having said that there are plenty of METAL to do in Japan as you mentioned a couple also Hanabie might be worth your checking.

Something harder, more progressive. Moratorium, secret my lips, onset, Giovanni, Blackhole, why why why, h-g-k, no God...all have prog element, and Wonderland, even though it is more slow and not as hard. They all have prog edge. With this band, you have to listen to at least 10+ songs before you start forming some sort of opinion about them. Once you get down to their instrumental, you'll start noticing more details going behind the vocal melody. Unfortunately though, some of their best songs don't have videos on KZbin, so you'll have to either look into Chinese video sharing site bilibili or spotify.

Maid in Japan !
@armynurseboy3 жыл бұрын
The image was done on purpose and devised by the band founder and rhythm guiar/second vocals MIku Kobato. Miku had a failed attempt at becoming an idol singer and was working in a Maid Cafe. She came up with the idea of a band dressed as maids playing in your face hard rock. This is a direct challenge to a Japanese cultural trope about maids and maid cafes. Whenever Japanese see ladies in maid costumes up on stage, they expect to hear bubblegum pop. Instead they get assaulted with hard rock. This creates a cognitive dissonance known as "The Gap": the clash between what you see and expect to hear and what you actually get.

Yeah if you're coming from Maximum the Hormone the maids aren't anything near as wild, and they're not a metal band either! They're a rock band that mostly plays heavy music, sometimes with a smidge of metal influence here and there, but they're just super good at crafting songs with interesting and evolving parts, so even if the structure is typical there's always something new going on. They're just a great band with good energy and I reckon you'll know if you're into them after a song or two! Also the MV has official subtitles, they've been adding them to the newer stuff and they're usually really good translations, sometimes internet stuff doesn't read too well! I always really like the lyrics, Miku (second vocalist, rhythm guitar) writes them and she's got a poetic soul

@@freetobewhoibe aww cool, yeah I like them a lot. They're really talented musicians too, and that tends to come out in the little details and keeping all the parts changing. I also found out the songs are faster than I realised by trying to play some and hitting a wall at 95% speed... that might just be a me thing though

I can hardly remember a POP song that sounds like this on POP radio with this many elements from a band (girl band) that actually plays they're own instruments! This wouldn't win judges hearts on American Idol because it's NOT pop...it's ROCK. It's not ARCH ENEMY Metal, but it's no POP. Maybe Rock sprinkled with lite Metal. But they do straight POP, except where Saiki ends this POP song with..."I don't give a fuck what people say!"You'll find this Pop foot tapping song someday ha-ha! Cheers!

Band Maid are definitely more punk/prog rock than Metal, with the occasional mid-tempo 70s rock song. They also shine when they have an audience to communicate with, which is why you'll get tons of recommendations for the Live at Line Shibuya clips (Domination, Freedom, Play, Choose Me) from their official channel. Personally, I'd recommend checking out the 2-song clip Manners/Black Hole ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5LJamekg7iFfac ) . It's a live clip from an online concert (so, sadly, no public) and it gives you one of their grooviest and chilliest song ("Manners") and something which can probably best be described as "prog rock on speed" or something like that, although that's not totally accurate ("Black Hole"). Bonus: both have subtitles. oh ... and about the subs ... very often they come off as some google-translate'y thing. Translating Japanese to English is notoriously difficult, and Miku (second Vocalist/rhythm guitar/*lyrics*) tend to work a lot with ambiguity and double-entente apparently (I don't speak japanese, so I'm parroting what I gathered here), so that makes the translated lyrics even more obscure.

The CC under their official videos are very well translated, That guy, Simon R. Wallis, is reportedly a geology professor in Tokyo university, so, obviously translations are just his hobby. But I guess since it's official, it's done together with Miku explaining to him what she meant in each case, and therefore, official English CCs are all very good. It's like "BAND-MAID interpreted" edition. They have added official English CCs recently to Blooming and Choose me, after the channel have had an influx of new visitors following Kate movie.

@@VladimirChupin yeah .. I think what I was trying to say didn't come across correctly : they are definitely good translations (definitely better than what we could get on random lyrics pages on the intertubes before they started having official ones), but they are often cryptic, and sometimes, in the more biographical songs like "Manners" or "After Life", knowing the context really helps. For example : "The un-melting snow settles on the sakura bloom/Flutters down and spreads in my heart" ... beautifully poetic imagery ...quite cryptic if you're lookign for a straightforward meaning. (that being said, I prefer the poetic way Miku writes to down-to-earth lyrics anyway :P
@VladimirChupin3 жыл бұрын
@@SocialNetwooky Well, that's poetry, after all 😁 I find it more understandable when I listen to a song with CC on. Somehow the expression with which Saiki and Miky sing those words, make the meaning more clear. I posted here below in one of the comments the lyrics for RINNE, as translated by Peter Lim. That's probably a "straightforward meaning" that you've had in mind...

Band maids music is FAR from simple.. unless you cant pick up on what every instrument is doing. they almost never play the exact same thing twice. the drums and guitars and bass will always be mixing it up with different stuff- they will never just play some simple cords or drum fill etc. They are very well known for their great song composition with lots going on- even if a song has a verse chorus verse chorus overall simple structure, what is going on within that is far from basic. But they still keep a catchy overall song and dont complicate stuff so much it looses that.
